Chapter 701: Chapter 707 Unable to Share
Why can’t people return to normal society after being in the underground world for a long time? Because that feeling of being able to disregard laws and rules is addictive.
Power reigns supreme in the underground world—an explicit jungle law.
Yang Yi wasn’t a boss of any territory; he couldn’t make those who followed him prosper and those who opposed him perish, but after knowing about Woody’s situation, in his rage, he could send someone to kill a person who displeased him instead of just cursing online without being able to do anything.
For Yang Yi, it was only after he had given the order that he realized he was no longer the same person he used to be.
Although Yang Yi had chosen to become a spy, his thoughts and concepts were still those of a normal person. He would observe basic societal norms, such as not resorting to risking money and breaking the law over something that angered him.
But now it was different. After being in the underground world for a long time, killing had become as routine as eating and drinking. Life had been reduced to a mere noun, and depriving others of theirs had become a trivial matter not worth caring about.
So when Woody’s ex-wife made Yang Yi extremely annoyed, his only thought was to get rid of her, simply because Woody was a useful person, and after bringing Woody into his fold, Yang Yi would have to interact with him daily, which would often remind him of his ex-wife.
In the underground world, having power meant bending the world to your will, but not everyone possessed this ability. The vast majority were just minor characters at the mercy of others. However, Yang Yi had now gained a bit of this ability to act as he pleased. He had money, the capability to evade the police, and enough manpower to enforce his will—and that was enough.
If things went as usual, Yang Yi would become a cold-blooded monster who killed without blinking, just like most of the big bosses in the underground world, influenced by their environment and driven by their own active pursuit.
From the moment Yang Yi declared, "I am justice," he was no longer the naive youngster who had plunged headfirst into the underground world.
He might not be called a boss, but a characteristic of a leader is that when they speak, others must act. And a qualified leader ensures that their commands are executed immediately, without discount.
Anton immediately made a call to book tickets, then promptly said to Yang Yi, "There’s a flight at 9:30 tomorrow morning, two first-class seats. There were no more economy seats available."
Yang Yi nodded, "Good, it’s been a tiring few days. Go get some rest."
Anton looked at Woody and beckoned, "Come with me; I have some questions for you."
Woody hesitated, then followed Anton.
After waiting for Anton to leave, Yang Yi sighed deeply and then said with a smile, "Now I feel relieved, hmm..."
Yang Yi suddenly remembered something, especially after looking at Kate and Xiao Ran.
There are some things that shouldn’t be said out loud, even if everyone knows, they still shouldn’t be vocalized.
Xiao Ran definitely liked Yang Yi, and so did Kate. Both understood that the other was fond of Yang Yi, and they also knew Yang Yi liked both of them. To win Yang Yi over, they had to compete, but due to pride or shyness, they wouldn’t express their affection too overtly, at least not blatantly fight over him.
But it was different when Yang Yi voiced it.
"I like you, and it’s okay that you like me and someone else. I can take you away, but you can’t tell me you like someone else, especially not in front of that person."
Yang Yi didn’t quite understand the psyche of women, but he grasped this fundamental principle. He knew his words must have angered Xiao Ran and Kate, and if he didn’t want to die horribly, he had to say something to save himself.
Looking at Zhang Yong, Yang Yi spoke in a grave tone, "Brother Yong, tell me how you found Woody."
Distract them, to shift the focus. Hopefully, Xiao Ran and Kate wouldn’t be too angry about what he had just said.
Just as Zhang Yong was about to speak, Xiao Ran looked at Yang Yi and scoffed coldly, "What did you just say, you like me? Ha, haha, oh, what should I say in response? Simply forget it, you don’t stand a chance. I would never be interested in you, kill that thought!"
Yang Yi could only feel awkward when Brian whispered, "Hey, are you serious?"
Xiao Ran was taken aback, and then heard Brian continue calmly, "Be careful with your words. You’re young, and it’s normal to say things you shouldn’t in a moment of pride, but matters of the heart shouldn’t be treated with recklessness. Think it through; if you rashly go against your true feelings in a moment of haste, letting go of someone you like, it could lead to a lifetime of regret."
Xiao Ran was stunned for a moment, then glared fiercely at Yang Yi, though she didn’t speak again.
Brian then turned to Kate and murmured, "Kate, you like Yang Yi, don’t you?"
Kate’s complexion turned pale. She had been very angry before, and she was still angry now. But seeing Yang Yi standing there looking so embarrassed, she felt her anger subside.
Taking a step forward, Kate lifted her head, and though her face was pale, she declared loudly, "Yes, I like Yang Yi, no, I love him!"
With those words, there was no longer room for ambiguity.
Xiao Ran’s complexion turned deathly pale; she had chosen rejection for the sake of her dignity, but now Kate had taken the initiative. If Yang Yi was still a man, he would have no choice but to be with Kate now, especially since he truly liked Kate.
Xiao Ran’s face also grew pale, but she managed to smile and said, "Then congratulations, a mutual affection indeed."
Brian let out a soft sigh, "Emotions are selfish, they’re never rational, but they should come with responsibility. Yang Yi, we can all see the emotional entanglement between you three. This is your personal affair, and if you were to handle it privately, I shouldn’t say much. But now it’s no longer just your personal affair because we’re a team. So, you’d better make a choice."
Yang Yi’s mind was in turmoil, and a slip of the tongue now forced him to make a choice. But it felt unfair to choose one over the other, and how could he reject Kate given the current situation?
Just then, Kate said loudly, "I like Yang Yi, but under the current circumstances, we’re not suitable to be together, at least not until he’s certain he loves only me. Love is selfish; I can’t share it with anyone else, so it’s better if we just maintain a professional
