Chapter 599: Chapter 607: The Great Battle is Imminent
Jethro and Ferdinand both wanted to kill each other, yet they also wanted to use Big Ivan’s hand to do the job. For that to happen, they would need a suitable opportunity.
Yang Yi had no doubt that if Ferdinand could get in touch with Big Ivan, he would not hesitate to betray Ferdinand’s whereabouts. Jethro was, of course, fully aware of this, so he had been hiding himself very tightly these days. His first priority was to guard against Ferdinand, followed by Big Ivan.
Conversely, it was the same. If Jethro could reach Big Ivan, he would definitely sell Ferdinand out completely.
Ferdinand was not a fool, and neither was Jethro. Therefore, although Ferdinand had been in Ukraine for five days, the two men had not made contact with each other even once.
If Deyo did not have external help, the battle with Big Ivan would not need to be fought at all—he was bound to lose.
But the problem was that Deyo did have external help, and he was clinging to a solid gold leg at that.
The powerful leg that Deyo was clinging to was the United States. Now, the Americans were the ones who most wanted to take down Big Ivan and eradicate his power from the roots. Deyo’s men simply needed to follow behind the Americans and pick up the spoils. So, the situation was actually favorable for Deyo.
However, the situation for Jethro was not so pleasant. In the face of Ferdinand, who had seized most of Deyo’s resources, Jethro had nothing significant to offer.
After five days, Ferdinand contacted Jethro for the first time. After hanging up the phone, Jethro’s expression turned somewhat solemn.
"Ferdinand wants to see me," Jethro said gravely.
After he finished speaking, Yang Yi shrugged and said, "Can you not go?"
"He mentioned a major operation. I could find an excuse not to meet him, but I can’t not participate," Jethro seemed helpless. He did not want to present himself for potential humiliation—or worse, if Ferdinand had a hot-headed moment and decided on a permanent solution. Not participating, however, would mean losing any chance to take over the business in Ukraine. Even if Ferdinand were taken down, it wouldn’t include him.
So Jethro did not want to meet Ferdinand, but he had no choice but to go.
"I don’t know what Ferdinand is planning, but he’s been here for a few days now, and I think he’s ready to make another big move. Whatever he wants to do, I have to be involved, but..."
Jethro looked toward Yang Yi and spoke in a low voice, "You guys are just responsible for ensuring my safety, understand? If he asks me to partake in the operation, like assigning me any offensive duties, I’ll refuse."
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Understood. Right now, our main concern is protecting ourselves from Ferdinand."
Jethro breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Go get the car ready. We’ll all set out in five minutes."
The road was tough to navigate, and by the time they set out, it was already night. When they arrived at the location Ferdinand mentioned, it was already ten o’clock at night.
The meeting place was an abandoned factory on the outskirts. As Yang Yi and the others cautiously drove in, they found that many cars had already parked there, and the yard of the abandoned factory was filled with people.
Everyone was fully armed. When Yang Yi got out of the car, he felt rather tense.
It seemed Ferdinand was preparing for some big move.
Seeing Jethro from a distance, Ferdinand called out, "You’re too slow."
As Jethro walked towards Ferdinand, he replied indifferently, "The road was rough, and you notified me a bit late."
Ferdinand had no intention of exchanging barbs with Jethro; instead, he glanced at his watch and said solemnly, "We’ve located Big Ivan’s position. We are going to attack him tonight, and if we can take him out, everything can come to an end."
Jethro was taken aback, and then, with surprise, he asked, "Big Ivan? Where is he!"
Without answering Jethro, Ferdinand simply continued, "We need to be ready and attack immediately once the opportunity arises."
Jethro swallowed and looked at the fully armed group gathered together, asking in a heavy voice, "Is the information reliable?"
Ferdinand wore a confident smile and casually replied, "Reliable."
After hesitating for a moment, Jethro finally said, "Then what are we waiting for, when do we move?"
Ferdinand smiled and said, "The Americans will make a move; we’ll wait for their signal. After the Americans finish off Big Ivan, we’ll be in charge of cleaning up the remnants of his forces. So, there’s no rush right now."
While Ferdinand and Jethro were conversing, Yang Yi and his group were kept on the outside.
There were no bodyguards around Ferdinand, and the nearest person to him was also ten meters away. And when Jethro passed by, Yang Yi and his group were also kept outside.
Yang Yi didn’t think it likely that Ferdinand would physically confront Jethro, so he didn’t force his way through after being stopped.
Yang Yi took the opportunity to observe.
Whether it was Ferdinand’s men, Deyo’s men, or members of the Fearless Mercenary Corps, at this moment they all revealed their equipment levels.
The best equipped were Deyo’s subordinates, who were armed to the teeth. Since it was night, each of them carried night vision goggles, both thermal imaging and light amplification, and they all wore heavy bulletproof vests, with each weaponry being top-notch.
The gear of the Fearless Mercenary Corps wasn’t as luxurious, but they had everything they needed and the setup was more sensible. Most of their weapons showed signs of use, and most importantly, every member of the Fearless Mercenary Corps looked relaxed.
Ferdinand’s direct forces weren’t poorly equipped, but it was obvious they had only recently received their new gear. First, the equipment was very new, and then, a few of them showed strong interest in their night vision devices, indicating they were certainly not familiar with this equipment.
What kind of fight you’re gearing up for, or what weapons you equip, determine the tactics you’ll use. You can tell what kind of fight a team excels at based on their equipment, such as field battles, indoor combat, or night operations.
From what Yang Yi could tell, with his not especially extensive experience, the Fearless Mercenary Corps was the opponent to be most wary of. Their equipment wasn’t particularly high-end, but they were extremely familiar with what they had. Furthermore, whether sitting or standing, their positioning was aligned with the deployment of combat squads. Their gear might not be cutting-edge but was by no means outdated, and the arrangement was sensible, indicating at least a very experienced battle team.
As for the direct forces sent by Deyo, it was hard to tell how strong they were; despite advanced equipment, they might just be flowers grown in a greenhouse.
As for Ferdinand’s direct forces, these guys were interesting. They had a lot of combat experience, but they clearly were used to the kind of mode where they just grab a gun and go into battle. This was evident within Ferdinand’s force of twenty-six people, where Yang Yi could tell that at least twelve individuals fidgeted with their bulletproof vests now and then, indicating they weren’t used to wearing the vests.
