Chapter 588: Chapter 596 I Object
Having simply passed by the southern tip of Cap Ferrat, Anton and Hans did not specifically ask the fishing boat to stop nearby, as the time and distance traveled were already sufficient for their observations.
They feigned fishing at sea for a while, the catch was meager, and all were small miscellaneous fish, so ignoring the captain’s suggestion, Hans requested to head back as soon as it got dark.
On the way back to shore, looking at the location of Deyo’s villa, Hans said casually, "The target’s security level is extremely high. From what we’ve discovered so far, and considering the target is a major arms dealer, I think his villa must have a lot of technical equipment, such as radar, radio signal monitoring and jamming systems, and a certain level of heavy firepower."
Anton responded indifferently, "Heavy firepower is a certainty, as for radar, well, radar signals are very powerful. Installing a radar on Cap Ferrat? Mmm, artillery surveillance radar would be a good choice."
Hans said in a low voice, "Yes, artillery surveillance radar. Mid to large-sized radar would be impossible, even small-sized ones have too much power for use in a densely populated city. Utilizing anti-air radar is definitely out of the question, but portable artillery surveillance radar is different—low power, small size, light weight."
Anton said gravely, "And it can detect small and micro unmanned drones. It’s capable of detecting artillery shells with decent coverage, spanning a radius from one thousand to three thousand meters, making it a solid choice."
"There’s also the portable battlefield surveillance radar. Deploy one towards the seaside, and it would absolutely prevent any approach from that direction."
Taking a breath, Anton said, "We need confirmation."
Hans shrugged, "Confirmation is definitely needed, but I believe, for an arms dealer, he certainly has these."
Anton fell silent. After a moment, he spoke softly, "If it is a portable radar, generally they’re powered by batteries or small generators, but here they have stable power supply to utilize, so, the electricity consumption can be checked."
Hans furrowed his brow, "Checking the electricity consumption isn’t very accurate though."
Anton shook his head, "We don’t need to be particularly precise, as long as we can determine from the electricity consumption whether a radar is present or not. Alright, we’ll discuss further after we go ashore."
The conversation ceased, and as they waited for the yacht to approach the shore, they disembarked and walked away from the dock. Anton took out his phone.
Anton called Tang Guo, and once she picked up, he said softly, "Help me look into something. There’s a villa on Cap Ferrat in Nice, France. I need to know the electricity consumption of this villa. I suspect it might have a smart system or a remote control system. Try to check it out, and if you can get in, that would be best."
"Alright, do you know the exact house number?"
"Not right now, but I will be able to tell you very soon."
Anton hung up the phone, and Hans said with a smile, "Seems we have a hacker, and a pretty good one at that."
Anton spoke softly, "Yes, we also have a cyber intelligence center and our own supercomputer."
Hans expressed his surprise, "Oh, that’s really great to hear."
Anton looked around and said, "We need the exact house number, what’s the quickest method?"
"Of course, it’s to go to the door and check."
Anton was taken aback too, looking at Hans, "I thought you had absolutely no sense of humor."
Hans spread his hands, "Other than going to the door to check, there’s the postal system. I think it’d be better to let our hacker search online, after all, it is the internet era. You just have to tell them the exact location, or simply point it out on a satellite map—that’s the simplest way."
Anton thought for a moment, "Good idea."
Anton made another call, and after Tang Guo answered, he described the features of Deyo’s villa and then asked her to pinpoint the location directly from the satellite map, and to handle the rest herself.
Having delegated the task back to Tang Guo, Anton said sternly, "Let’s grab some food, and then we need to check out the lighthouse. With a bit of luck, we might find out roughly how many people are inside the villa."
Hans pondered for a moment before responding, "I’d advise against that. The lighthouse is too close to the target. Based on the current information we have, the target will check on any suspicious activity within a three-kilometer perimeter, and the lighthouse is within this radius. Going there would likely reveal our presence."
Anton laughed, "No worries, I’ll go alone. They won’t detect me."
Hans shook his head, "I disagree. It’s too risky."
Anton spread his hands, "Even if there’s battlefield surveillance radar, it won’t monitor the lighthouse. As for those scouts around, I can certainly elude them."
Hans just shook his head, "No, I strongly oppose. Just from a cost-effectiveness analysis, the risks outweigh the benefits. It’s night time, we don’t have night vision gear, and you can’t see the full picture inside the villa, only the approximate layout and distribution of residents by the lights. But if you draw attention, that means this intelligence may become void. And if you’re discovered climbing the lighthouse, then the intelligence is definitely compromised."
Anton spoke in a low voice, "You office guys are always too cautious. It’s not so easy to be detected."
Hans said seriously, "I may be an office worker, but my abilities extend far beyond the office. Also, I believe you’re exhibiting bias against non-frontline intelligence officers; it’s the classic arrogance of an operative. I once again vehemently object to your erroneous remarks."
Anton raised his hand, "Stop! No more, you’re right. I won’t go to the lighthouse. We’ll just go get something to eat and wait for news. Happy now?"
An annoyed yet resigned Anton waved his hand, "Now, let’s go eat, then we wait for news. Does that work for you?"
Hans spoke gravely, "If you really want to observe from the lighthouse, it’s not impossible, but that would require the target to leave his villa. I assess that the target is not likely to stay here long-term, so there will definitely be an opportunity, and it would be during daylight."
Anton waved his hands dismissively, "No, no, let’s not bother with that. I’ve said this information is already sellable."
Hans frowned, "It would be wiser to be more careful. We should at least check out the lighthouse. Satellite maps may be convenient but they’re not as direct. The only trouble is we can’t determine when the target will leave his villa."
"Ah, you’re such a hassle. You were the one who said not to go to the lighthouse!"
"I only said we can’t go now. Direct observation I do find very necessary."
Anton spoke with a look of helplessness, "Stop, you’re right. Now, let’s go eat."
