Chapter 585: Chapter 593 Bait

The rear door of the cargo van swung open, and a pungent smell hit them in the face.

Yang Yi climbed into the van, which was filled with stacks of styrofoam boxes. Inside the boxes covered with ice cubes were fish, but when he moved the top box aside, he found guns disassembled into parts and wrapped in plastic bags beneath.

After setting the box with ice cubes to one side, Yang Yi took out the parts wrapped in plastic bags and handed them to Brian outside; then he removed the foam box and retrieved bags of ammunition from the one below.

There were a total of seventeen guns: seven pistols, all Beretta M92s, five FAMAS assault rifles, and five MP5 submachine guns.

There wasn’t a lot of ammunition. There were approximately three thousand 9mm Parabellum rounds and only fifteen hundred 5.56mm rifle rounds, as there were only fifty magazines. Even if each magazine were filled to capacity with thirty rounds, that would only total to fifteen hundred rounds.

There was no shortage of bulletproof vests, ten of them with level IV protection, but helmets were absent, not to mention night vision gear.

After tallying all the weapons, Yang Yi frowned and said, "Buddy, this really isn’t enough."

Boyata sounded helpless as he replied in a low voice, "We didn’t dare to use our usual channels to find weapons on short notice. These guns and bulletproof vests were already hard to come by. If it weren’t for these extraordinary circumstances, whatever you needed would not have been a problem, but now it definitely is."

Yang Yi nodded and asked, "So, what do we do next?"

Without hesitation, Boyata answered, "Wait, but not here. We should split up, yet be ready to provide support for Jethro at any moment."

Yang Yi and his team were currently in Feraj corner, or to be exact, in the backyard of a restaurant that lay just within the boundary of Feraj corner.

A huge cache of weapons certainly couldn’t be assembled openly on a British promenade. Boyata had led Yang Yi and the rest to this restaurant, which was yet another temporary stopover.

Yang Yi spoke in a stern voice: "Everyone grab your weapons and try to wear the bulletproof vests under your clothes. Chris, you ride with Boyata. Stay in touch. If there’s any news, communicate it to us immediately. We’ll split up but keep a certain distance from one another."

The seven of them split into three groups: Brian with Paul, Yang Yi with Kate and Xiao Ran, and Chris was assigned to accompany Boyata.

Yang Yi did not know Boyata’s ultimate destination, but he felt that since Boyata had brought them to Feraj corner, the likelihood of Jethro being nearby was very high, which meant that Deyo Mather was probably here as well.

The situation was delicate; Yang Yi and his team were Jethro’s bodyguards, yet they could not stay by Jethro’s side to provide protection. Instead, they had to wait at a location chosen by Boyata.

What was the point of waiting like this? Honestly, there wasn’t much point, but doing something seemingly pointless was always better than doing nothing at all. At least for Jethro, knowing there were people outside waiting to protect him might provide some peace of mind.

Walkie-talkies were still very easy to find, as they were not akin to guns, but after following Boyata’s car on the roads of Feraj corner for a while, Boyata suddenly said through the walkie-talkie, "Let’s wait here. Find a spot for yourself, and we’ll just wait right here."

Yang Yi looked at the navigation map on the car and then realized they were in the middle of Feraj corner.

Feraj corner was a narrow peninsula, and Yang Yi and his group were at an intersection of several roads in the middle part of the peninsula. It wasn’t Nice’s most popular spot, but it certainly was where the wealthiest people in all of Nice lived.

Villas were everywhere, but most were concentrated at the southern end of Fira Point, starting from where Yang Yi and his party were staying. Here, the villas became more plentiful, and their location was in the main commercial area of Fira Point, bustling with people and cars. Parking their car here wouldn’t attract undue attention.

They began to wait, and then just kept waiting.

At one point, Yang Yi got out of the car to use the restroom and also bought some food and drinks for Kate and Xiao Ran. Boyata did likewise, imposing no restrictions on their movements, which led Yang Yi to believe that there was definitely no imminent danger of exposure. After all, Boyata was Jethro’s assistant, while Deyo had already requested that Jethro meet him alone.

In fact, Jethro did as he was instructed by Deyo. He left his entourage and bodyguards far away, and in any case, he went to the meeting alone.

When the time reached around nine o’clock in the evening, Boyata suddenly said in an urgent voice through the walkie-talkie, "Boss is out!"

Boyata sounded extremely excited. Yang Yi didn’t know what had happened, but Chris would tell him later, so for now, it was enough to know that Jethro was safe.

Boyata hastily said, "Let’s leave this place, leave immediately, everyone follow me!"

Without saying a word or asking questions, Yang Yi started the car and followed Boyata away from Fira Point, then they began waiting in a vacant lot by the roadside.

Half an hour later, a car parked next to theirs, and then Jethro got out of a car and waved to the three vehicles shrouded in darkness.

After dropping off Jethro, the car that brought him drove away immediately.

Yang Yi got out of his car and walked straight up to Jethro.

Jethro’s expression looked terrible. He waved at Yang Yi and then said to Boyata in a low voice, "Don’t say anything, let’s leave this place immediately."

Yang Yi wanted to return to his own car, but Jethro whispered to him, "You too, come with me in one car."

Chris drove, with Boyata in the passenger seat, and Yang Yi sitting in the back with Jethro.

Once the car started moving, Boyata whispered, "Where are we going?"

Jethro took a long breath and then whispered, "It doesn’t matter where we go. We won’t be in danger here, because Nicholas never came."

After saying this, Jethro leaned his head back on the headrest and said in extreme fatigue, "I thought Deyo might have gone a bit mad after his son’s death, but that’s not the case. Deyo is very calm. His act of rage was just a ploy to kill Nicholas. Yes, it was a trap. Deyo wanted to kill Nicholas, but Nicholas didn’t come at all."

Finally, Yang Yi said, "Does that mean Deyo is going to turn on Nicholas?"

Jethro shook his head and said, "No, they won’t turn on each other. This is very complicated... extremely complicated."

Jethro’s mood became even more complex. After speaking in a weary voice, he said helplessly, "The only issue is, Deyo summoned me only to use me as bait, as if I were a competitor when, in fact, I was just bait to lure Nicholas here."
