What might have been a trivial matter for Jethro was, for Yang Yi, something he had long dreamed of.

With just these few sentences, if Yang Yi decided to sell them, heaven knows how much money he could fetch. What was this? This was intelligence, and intelligence that could be sold for money.

To save his own skin, Jethro had to tell Yang Yi the truth, while Yang Yi was considering how to extract even more from Jethro.

"Has Nicholas become so formidable? I have a question, do you think Nicholas might consider replacing Deyo?"

Yang Yi’s question was reasonable. Since Nicholas was so formidable, even if he didn’t have supply sources, it shouldn’t be a big problem. To kill Deyo and take his place, that would be quite normal.

Jethro shook his head and said, "No, because Deyo has resources that Nicholas can’t replace. Nicholas has lost control now, but he doesn’t have the power to replace Deyo, and he wouldn’t dare to, at least not for now."

Jethro didn’t spell out what resources Deyo had. He hadn’t reached the point where he was willing to reveal everything, nor did he explain why Nicholas didn’t dare challenge Deyo’s status. Presumably, Deyo still had some ace up his sleeve. But as to what that ace was, unless Jethro was ready to betray Deyo right then, he certainly couldn’t reveal it.

With a sigh, Jethro said helplessly, "But the problem now is that Deyo can’t get rid of Nicholas. Even if Nicholas wants to kill me, he will stop him, but once Nicholas creates a fait accompli, then Deyo can only acquiesce."

Although Jethro had no intention of betraying Deyo, there was still discernible dissatisfaction with Deyo in his tone.

Being unable to protect one’s own men, and only being able to tacitly accept their infighting, following such a boss had lost its appeal. If the ultimate fate of an empire was to fall apart, then the unraveling of Deyo’s arms empire was starting from here.

Yang Yi said nothing more. Too much could be as bad as a lack. As long as he stayed close to Jethro, there would be plenty of opportunities to hear more secrets. However, if he became too eager and aroused Jethro’s suspicion, that would be trouble.

"Where are we going now?"

"No plans, no prior arrangements, so we might as well just find a hotel to stay in."

But if you’re going to be in Paris for a while, well, I don’t think we need to buy too much gear. I’d have to arrange for my men to come from Ukraine, but you’ll have to organize the route, allowing my men to bring their weapons and equipment along."

Yang Yi’s response was both logical and reasonable. After a moment’s thought, Jethro spoke softly, "I can get guns in Paris, but I think secrecy is more important than having guns in hand, don’t you agree?"

"Yes, keeping Nicholas from knowing your whereabouts is much safer than having a few guns."

Jethro heaved a sigh and said, "I have too many channels in Paris armed to the teeth, but I dare not confirm whether these people would reveal my whereabouts to Nicholas."

Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "Then don’t contact anyone. If you really need to stay here for a while, I can have people come from Ukraine, but if there’s no need for a lengthy stay, then try to maintain secrecy as much as possible."

Having said that, Yang Yi continued, "You should know that we are not professional bodyguards; we are better at offense than at protecting someone."

"I know, but I don’t have a better candidate."

"Very well, shall I arrange the rest of the itinerary then?"

Without any hesitation, Jethro whispered, "Yes, I won’t communicate with anyone. You handle the accommodations, safety first, regardless of the lodging conditions."

Taking a taxi, Yang Yi randomly chose a hotel that seemed decent enough and checked in.

Four adjacent rooms were booked. Jethro and Boyata took one, while Yang Yi and Chris stayed opposite Jethro.

The most dangerous moment had not yet come; Yang Yi felt that even if Nicholas wanted to take out Jethro, he wouldn’t be able to pinpoint Jethro’s whereabouts. Therefore, the most perilous time for Jethro would be on his way to meet with Deyo Mather after receiving his notification.

As Jethro had said, if Deyo still retained some last vestige of sanity, he should summon Jethro and Nicholas separately. But if Deyo was indeed blinded by hatred, then Jethro would be in danger.

Yang Yi felt that Deyo Mather, being a figure of some eminence, ought not make such a mindless move.

Surveillance was essential. Brian and Paul, who stayed next to Jethro, would eavesdrop on every word he said.

However, a night passed and Jethro hadn’t made contact with Deyo.

The next day, Jethro appeared somewhat haggard during breakfast.

Yang Yi and Jethro sat at the same table. After a tasteless breakfast, Jethro finally whispered, "I must leave Paris."

Yang Yi merely furrowed his brow but said nothing, as he was sure Jethro would explain.

After a moment’s hesitation, Jethro whispered, "I have to go to Nice, today, immediately, but I can’t take you with me."

Yang Yi looked a bit surprised but quickly nodded and replied, "I understand, so shall we wait for you in Paris?"

Jethro shook his head, then said with a grave face, "Deyo told me to go alone, but..."

Heaving a sigh, Jethro continued with irritation, "The orders Deyo gave me are very unusual. He told me to see him alone, to reach Nice as quickly as possible. Why does he want me to go alone? If he thinks I am unreliable, then he shouldn’t meet me, but if he thinks I am reliable enough to meet him, then why issue such a command that I can only go see him alone? Such an order makes no sense, because if I wanted to betray him, I certainly wouldn’t go alone."

After speaking, Jethro said with a troubled look, "Deyo is not someone inexperienced with significant matters. No matter how tough the situation, he has never issued such a meaningless order. Now, I question whether his mental state is fit to make the right decision."
