Chapter 561: Chapter 569: The Gift
The janitor’s reaction was within Yang Yi’s expectations. If they wanted to make a big deal out of this, then the janitor would have to buy the intelligence, because cooperation is cooperation, but the money that should be paid can’t be less. Without evidence, the janitor leaking anything independently of the Organization of Water was meaningless, unless they had found evidence themselves.
However, the janitor would definitely not act without the Organization of Water; doing so would destroy the organization’s business. Even if the janitor was tight on funds, they would never engage in such self-destructive actions.
Yang Yi hung up the phone and then pondered how to maximize his benefits from this situation, while also ensuring that the Organization of Water faced no danger.
After a while, Yang Yi said in a deep voice, "The janitor’s attitude is to wait and see. If they have a need, they will pay for the evidence we possess. If the janitor has no need, then we will decide on our own how to handle it."
Tang Guo couldn’t help asking, "What do you plan to do?"
Yang Yi shook his head and said, "Be patient for now. Let them jump around a bit longer. As it stands, there’s no benefit other than getting justice for those dead children, so I want to wait. When the time is most critical, whether it’s for a big sum of money or some other benefit, we can maximize the gains."
Xiao Ran said contemptuously, "Your heroism is not pure. What kind of hero talks about money?"
Yang Yi looked at Xiao Ran and said, "A hero can’t live on northwest winds alone. Besides, if you can make a fortune while being chivalrous, why not do it? Also, I’m fishing for a big catch with a long line; now is not the right time."
Since a decision had been made, there was no need for further discussion. Yang Yi said loudly, "Tang Guo, jot down a summary of the situation and copy all the data again for me."
Tang Guo briefly wrote a summary and copied the downloaded evidence. Then she handed a USB drive to Yang Yi.
After taking the USB drive, Yang Yi immediately turned to Kate and said, "Come with me for a moment. Everyone else is free to do as they please."
Yang Yi led Kate to his room, and when he took out all his satellite phones and mobile phones and placed them in Kate’s hands, he said gravely, "Hold these for me; I need to take a shower and rest."
His tone was light, but his expression was serious. Kate was startled for a moment, then took Yang Yi’s phones and nodded, "Go ahead."
Yang Yi removed all his electronic equipment and then left the hotel alone.
Yang Yi entered the subway station, took the subway for a long ride, and finally bought a mobile phone capable of using IP cards for international calls.
At a noisy subway station entrance, Yang Yi made a call. After two beeps, the call was answered.
"Hello."
"Uncle Li, it’s Little Hai. I’ve arrived. This is a phone I bought here, so it’s easier to stay in touch with home. Uncle, is everything okay at home?"
The voice on the other end responded quickly, "Little Hai, are you settled in? How’s the food there? Are you getting used to it?"
"The food’s alright. Uncle, I bought some local specialties as gifts for you. I think you’ll like them. They’re not worth much, but they’re interesting. I really want to send them to you right away. This is my first gift; it’s important. I mean, I feel it’s really important. Ha ha... "
The voice on the other end of the call was filled with affection as it said, "You kid, thank you, Uncle."
"I’m hesitating about how to send the gift to you. Should I ship it, or should I give it to you personally when I return to the country? But it’ll be a while before I can return. Maybe I can show you via video call first."
"Ah, you’re so impatient, can’t you give me a surprise? Ha ha, since it’s a gift, wait and give it to me in person. It would be troublesome if it got lost in the mail. As for a video call, forget about it. I want to open the gift myself."
After thinking, Yang Yi said, "Alright, then I’ll just wait until I get back to give it to you. Uncle, how’s my aunt?"
"Your aunt went out. Give her a call. Oh, she changed her number. Here, write it down."
Yang Yi noted down a phone number and then made some small talk before hanging up.
Yang Yi wandered around some more, and when he reappeared, his appearance and attire were completely different, but he did not change his phone.
After a while, Yang Yi’s phone rang, and a strange woman’s tender voice said, "Is this Little Hai?"
"Auntie, it’s me, Little Hai. How are you feeling?"
"Good, I’m feeling very well."
Yang Yi chatted with his relative on the phone for a long time until his never-met aunt casually said, "Little Hai, I heard the cosmetics over there are pretty good. Why don’t you bring some back for your aunt? I’ll give you the money, and you can buy some for me. Oh, I have a friend who’s traveling there; she can bring it back for me. That way, it’s definitely safe."
With the crucial information passed on, Yang Yi ended the call and then looked for a cosmetic store. He bought a bunch of cosmetics and afterward, he found a middle-aged woman who was shopping as a tourist.
After handing over the cosmetics to his aunt’s friend, Yang Yi said with a smile, "Thank you for this. These gifts are particularly important, extremely so. Please make sure they reach my aunt."
The middle-aged woman receiving the items smiled and said, "Don’t worry. I will make sure they’re delivered. Also, thank you."
Yang Yi knew to whom this thank you was addressed, and that he had earned it. He nodded and then took his leave from the middle-aged woman.
In an emergency situation with a unique identity, one cannot follow the common path.
Yang Yi knew this matter was important and how critical it was for Li Fan. Money was definitely important, but sometimes it wasn’t. Therefore, he decided to give this piece of intelligence away for free, just as his father had done before.
Having completed a task, Yang Yi felt much lighter. So, as he passed by the Han River, he threw the phone into the water, then returned to the hotel.
By the time he got back to the hotel, Brian and Paul had returned.
Everyone knew Yang Yi had gone out, but no one asked what he had been doing.
Brian asked Yang Yi, "Do we no longer need to monitor Bu Cunzai?"
Yang Yi shook his head and said, "No need. I think it’s time we left."
Brian shrugged and asked, "We’re leaving now? So, where to next?"
Yang Yi frowned and after a moment of hard thought, he finally said helplessly, "I don’t know. How about we find someone who really knows how to analyze intelligence? I think this issue is quite important; it’s time to put it on the agenda. What do you think?"
