Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 543 - 531
Chapter 543: 531
"Boss, the janitor has sent over the list of personnel we need to keep a close eye on, but we won’t be able to conduct a detailed investigation."
Yang Yi had just woken up. He washed his face and was met by Tang Guo, who had rushed over in a hurry.
"What happened?"
"There are over eighty clients, but the janitor sent over the names of sixty-five people."
Yang Yi was momentarily stunned, then he sighed and said helplessly, "The janitor can’t discern which bits of intel are valuable either, so they’ve simply kicked the ball back to us."
Tang Guo, with a look of dissatisfaction, said, "That just shows the janitor isn’t that great."
Yang Yi shook his head and said, "You can’t really say that. After all, there’s too little information, and for most clients, we only have a name. Even if the janitor is capable, staring at a list of strange names won’t accomplish much."
Although he was making excuses for the janitor, Yang Yi couldn’t help but murmur to himself in his heart.
From what Yang Yi had experienced with the Grey-cloaked People so far, they were nowhere near as powerful as the legends suggested. It’s not that they were riddled with holes, but they didn’t meet the standards of a mysterious and extremely formidable secret organization.
But the janitor’s performance wasn’t perfect either. Not to mention anything else, just Terry’s initiative alone gave Yang Yi the impression that the janitor’s control was also wanting.
Yang Yi fell into deep thought. Why did both the Grey-cloaked People and the janitor seem to fall short of their reputation? Was it because they had declined, or had the Organization of Water become so powerful that they could look down on these two organizations?
Yang Yi felt that perhaps both the Grey-cloaked People and the janitor had encountered some major event which forced both organizations to devote the majority of their efforts to deal with it.
Terry mentioned that the janitor was facing a financial crisis, and the fact that Terry took the initiative to demand one hundred million US Dollars from Yang Yi was largely because of this, which indirectly confirmed Yang Yi’s speculation.
Without a doubt, the janitor was embroiled in some significant affair, hence their allocation of most manpower and financial resources. Perhaps the Grey-cloaked People were doing the same.
If the Grey-cloaked People truly committed most of their resources to one task, now would be their vulnerable period!
Yang Yi didn’t dare to guarantee his guesses were completely accurate, but he felt there was a high likelihood of this possibility.
Seeing Yang Yi suddenly lost in thought, Tang Guo couldn’t help but ask curiously, "What are you thinking about?"
Yang Yi looked up and smiled, "Nothing much. I think you might be right. The janitor and the Grey-cloaked People are currently preoccupied with something that’s taking up most of their attention, making now an excellent opportunity for us."
After saying this, Yang Yi walked away excitedly, while Tang Guo had a look of confusion and said, "I didn’t say any of that."
Arriving in the living room of the rented suite, Yang Yi sat down in front of a computer. He glanced over the list sent back by the janitor and, after briefly pondering, gave up on the idea of investigating these individuals one by one. With just a few people they had, it was impossible to investigate over sixty people thoroughly.
Just then, Yang Yi’s phone rang. After answering the call, Anton said in a low voice, "I need backup."
Yang Yi was somewhat anxious and spoke in a grave tone, "Are you in danger?"
"No, Park Ji-yi has tight security at home. It’s a bit difficult for me to track him on my own."
Anton was a very proud man. He claimed he could handle everything himself, but now that he was asking for help, it meant he truly couldn’t manage the surveillance work alone.
It’s fine to be proud, but not to the extent that it affects one’s work. Asking for assistance is not shameful, but it is disgraceful to botch a mission due to pride.
"What’s the situation?"
"Having a foreigner’s face is too conspicuous; I can’t surveil him without alerting the target. Now that Park Ji-yi is about to leave, I need someone to take over the tracking,"
"Understood. Where are you? Xiao Ran and I will come to help,"
After Anton gave an address, Yang Yi hung up the phone and immediately shouted, "Xiao Ran, come with me to track someone, Brian, you and Paul be ready to support us at any time."
Xiao Ran stood up and asked, "We don’t have a car, should we rent one or take a taxi?"
Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "We have a car."
Yang Yi, with no time to talk further, hurried out of the hotel with Xiao Ran, turned a corner, then pulled out an electronic key, fiddled with it back and forth a few times before he managed to open the door of a sedan.
"Stealing cars again..."
"No worries, just borrowing it, we’ll return it when we’re done. At worst, we’ll just leave some gas money,"
It was a shamelessly pragmatic solution, but Xiao Ran wouldn’t care.
The two quickly drove to the location Anton mentioned, and then Yang Yi sat still, parking the car not far from Park Ji-yi’s home.
"This is Sea God, we have arrived,"
"I see you, now waiting for Park Ji-yi to leave,"
Having said that over the walkie-talkie, Yang Yi and Xiao Ran stopped talking. They just waited in the car, unmoving from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon.
Yang Yi felt very thirsty but dared not drink water, fearing the need to use the bathroom.
The life of a spy was actually no fun at all. Just as Yang Yi was getting restless, Anton finally spoke through the walkie-talkie.
"Attention, the target is coming out, make a right turn! They’re going to make a right turn!"
Yang Yi immediately started the car and watched the rearview mirror, waiting to see a black sedan drive out from Park Ji-yi’s home. As soon as it did, he pulled onto the roadway.
Yang Yi drove leisurely at the front, and the black Hyundai sedan overtook him from behind.
"This car is pretty beat-up,"
Xiao Ran said in surprise, but Yang Yi was excited. He said, "If they’re driving such a wreck, it means they are either very frugal, very low-key, or it’s because they’re up to something shady and need to disguise their identity. So Park Ji-yi driving a wreck is actually a good sign."
Yang Yi drove behind for a while until a grey Mercedes sedan overtook him and then Park Ji-yi’s car. Immediately afterward, Anton’s grave voice came through the walkie-talkie: "I’ll follow him. You guys switch cars. The target is extremely cautious; I can’t follow for too long, so you need to catch up promptly."
Yang Yi asked in a deep voice, "Extremely cautious? How can you tell?"
Anton replied quietly, "It’s a bit complicated, now’s not the time to explain. Remember, treating the target as an experienced spy is certainly not wrong."
"Got it, the target is extremely cautious; we’ll catch up to you soon."
With the conversation over, Yang Yi took a breath and said, relieved, "It’s getting more interesting. A big boss with strong counter-surveillance skills is a good sign."
Xiao Ran, also excited, said, "Exactly, it’s a good sign. I have a feeling that we might have caught a big fish."
