Chapter 522: Chapter 510: What Are You Trying to Say?
McDonald said he didn’t want to work temporarily and wanted to stay with Trident, but now he was talking about taking the money and leaving.
Isn’t it strange how his attitude has changed? Actually, it’s not surprising, because McDonald was observing and judging whether Trident was worth joining.
Or perhaps McDonald never really thought about joining a completely unfamiliar Mercenary Group; everything was an illusion, smoke and mirrors deployed by McDonald.
To be honest, Yang Yi was quite pleased that McDonald didn’t join Trident, because McDonald’s identity was too sensitive. His joining could draw the attention of the United Kingdom. Though McDonald indeed knew a lot of things, Yang Yi felt that as a veteran terrorist, he should understand the importance of keeping his mouth shut.
"You want to leave now? Okay, I’ll pay you one million US Dollars, but I don’t have cash. Can you give me an account to transfer it to?"
McDonald shook his head and said, "No, I don’t want a transfer, I want cash."
"Cash, are you sure?"
Yang Yi didn’t understand why McDonald wanted cash because these days, carrying a large sum of money without a provable source of income usually meant you were a drug trafficker or arms dealer; it definitely meant the money was dirty.
McDonald shrugged and said, "Yes, I want cash because I don’t have an account to receive the money."
Yang Yi hesitated for a moment, then spoke in a deep voice, "How about this? I’ll give you a secure account in Switzerland and then deposit your money into that account. You won’t even have to pay for opening the account as a thank you for the big favor you’ve done. How does that sound?"
McDonald smiled and said, "If it can really be done that way, then there’s nothing better."
Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "Come with me, no need to stand here."
Yang Yi and the others entered a common type of house in Rome’s city area, while the car they had used to escape was driven away by someone else. As for what to do with it, that was a job for the cleaners.
Zhang Yong and his team arrived as well, only less than two minutes after Yang Yi’s group.
No sooner had Yang Yi been brought into a large room than Zhang Yong entered briskly with his men. He then asked loudly, "Where’s the doctor? Where’s the doctor?"
Roman had a lot of blood on him, and Sergei had a cloth bandage wrapped around his arm, with blood still flowing down from it.
Yang Yi stood up and asked, "What happened?"
Zhang Yong, in a hurry, said, "Roman’s bulletproof vest was penetrated, and Sergei was shot through the arm. Where’s the doctor? Don’t tell me there’s no doctor here!"
An inconspicuous old man came out, looked at Roman and Sergei, then nodded at Yang Yi and said in a deep voice, "Please have the injured follow me."
Zhang Yong went to support Roman and was about to leave, but the old man shook his head and said, "You don’t need to follow, I can take care of him."
"This is really strange."
Zhang Yong muttered to himself, and then he asked Yang Yi, "How about it? Did everything go smoothly?"
Yang Yi laughed and said, "Everything went smoothly. Wait a moment, I need to handle Mr. Quinn’s matter first."
Yang Yi took out a satellite phone, turned it on, and then whispered to Paul on the other end of the phone, "Give me a secure account, and help me deposit one million US Dollars into it, make it quick."
Paul gave him an account number. Yang Yi snapped his fingers and said to Kate, "Paper, pen."
Yang Yi didn’t need paper and pen to remember the account number, but he needed to write it down for McDonald.
After scribbling an account number and password on paper, Yang Yi hung up the call. Then he folded the note and walked over to McDonald, whispering, "There’s a million US dollars in this account. You can withdraw or transfer with the password, so you better change it. There’s no money in it now, but there will be a million dollars within an hour."
McDonald took the note and then said with a smile, "Sounds very professional. So, how much does this secure account cost per year?"
Yang Yi shrugged, "About fifty thousand dollars a year, so if you’ve got a safer place for the funds, it’s best to transfer it all out."
"How do I know you’re telling the truth? What if there’s no money in the account? So I have to wait to make sure the money’s there, and I can’t leave until I’ve changed the password."
Brian frowned, then addressed McDonald, "Hey, mate, you know how these things are usually handled, right?"
McDonald said, "Know it? Isn’t it something like killing people to silence them?"
"Yes, killing you means we don’t have to pay and we don’t worry about you blabbing around, so enough with the nonsense, and don’t be testing the waters. If we wanted you dead, you wouldn’t be here now."
Brian was blunt enough, and McDonald nodded with a laugh, "So you want to kill me, right?"
Brian shrugged innocently, "Do you think there’s a better option? Is there?"
After that, Brian nodded at Yang Yi, "If it were up to me, you’d be dead already. But he’s the one calling the shots, and he’s decided not to kill you and to give you some money to keep you quiet, so why not just end the probing and take your money and leave?"
Looking content, McDonald said, "I’ve seen plenty who like to kill to silence others, but those who come out and say it as if it’s their right, you’re the first I’ve met. I actually quite appreciate your frankness."
Brian waved his hand, "Young man, you’re still unaware of the cruelty of this world, still holding onto illusions about those nice words, like loyalty, friendship, what moral principles and such nonsensical talk. Do you believe that? Don’t you know what this damn world is like? Enough with that crap, I don’t want to discuss such meaningless things anymore."
"That’s not right."
The speaker was Zhang Yong, shaking his head at Brian, "You got that wrong."
Brian looked at Zhang Yong in surprise, "What did you say?"
Zhang Yong stated boldly, "What you said about loyalty and friendship and such not being nonsense, do they not exist?"
Brian scoffed, "You believe that? Don’t tell me you still believe in such things..."
"Him."
Zhang Yong pointed at Paul, then said proudly, "Come on, explain your relationship with him. Come on, explain it, will you? You escaped from prison and he left everything to follow you. Explain that. What’s that about?"
Brian opened his mouth, stunned, "That’s different, of course it’s different. We are, we are brothers, we are comrades-in-arms that not even death can separate, that’s..."
"In short, it’s about loyalty, friendship, and stuff like that, right? So you see, you were wrong. Before you talk about others, at least look at yourself. You’ve already received the most steadfast affection in this world."
Brian pointed at McDonald, baffled, "Paul and I have been brothers for decades, do you compare him with someone who’s just being used casually?"
Zhang Yong waved his hands, "No no no, I wasn’t comparing them. What I mean is – pay attention – what I mean is, your statement was wrong, not that I’m comparing Paul with McDonald."
Brian, confused, "Fuck! What on earth are you trying to say?"
