Chapter 513: Chapter 501 Glued Up

If you were going to buy something priced at ten thousand dollars, and you started haggling by offering a hundred dollars instead, then the seller agrees to the deal,

what would you think? Would you worry that you’ve been duped?

Mike Donald’s situation was similar, his agreement came too readily, which made Yang Yi feel that something might be amiss.

Now it was settled. Though he was described as young and inexperienced, and though there were complications, Yang Yi was still very pleased because he understood why Mike Donald was willing to come out of retirement.

Loneliness.

All sages have felt the pangs of solitude through the ages.

But Mike Donald couldn’t endure the loneliness. He couldn’t remain a revered legend worshiped at altars yet cut off from the world; he yearned to return to the chaos of the world he once knew.

The rest?

The rest didn’t matter anymore.

Consequences?

The consequences didn’t matter either.

After I’m dead, why should I worry about a deluge?

If Yang Yi was bold enough to extend a ladder, Mike Donald was ready to poke a hole in the sky.

Anton and Mike Donald were individuals left behind by the times, discarded by their organizations. They had no worries about food or clothing but couldn’t fulfill the void inside. Of course, Yang Yi couldn’t understand.

To sum it up in one sentence, there was no reason or excuse needed. McDonald Quinn simply wanted to un-retire, and so the godfather of bombs was back in action.

Once Yang Yi figured it out, he felt a sense of clarity and exhilaration. He released his grip on Mike Donald’s hands and asked, "Do you need to go home and pack some belongings?"

Mike Donald shook his head and said, "No need to. Let’s hurry. I don’t have any luggage to take. MI6 isn’t all that interested in surveilling me anymore, but they’ve installed bugs and maybe cameras in my house. I certainly don’t want them to find out I’m leaving."

After saying this, Mike Donald suddenly chuckled, expressing his delight, "MI6 can save some money now."

Out of curiosity, Yang Yi asked, "How so?"

"MI6 is responsible for paying my rent, and it’s due again. Once they realize I’ve disappeared, of course, they can save that expense."

Anton looked around and asked, "There aren’t any spies lurking around now, are there?"

"No, they only come once or twice a year to make sure I’m still here. The 24-hour surveillance stopped many years ago. Now, there are just some listening devices in my house. I’ve searched many times but haven’t found them all. I’ve found some, but there definitely are some I haven’t discovered, which is why I can’t even bring a woman back home. I have to sort it out elsewhere."

Mike Donald suddenly stopped, then he looked at Yang Yi and said, "You can hire me for a job, but if I leave, MI6 will get nervous, and you’ll need to bear the consequences."

Yang Yi was taken aback and said, "Uh, actually, we were just hoping you could help us this one time..."

Mike Donald shook his head repeatedly, saying, "That won’t do. If you want me to go back to my old job, you have to take responsibility for me. You can’t use me once and throw me away like trash. I want a long-term commitment, not a temporary gig."

Yang Yi replied with difficulty, "That’s a bit problematic..."

Mike Donald stood firm faced with Yang Yi’s hesitance, and then he said, "Which mercenary group are you from?"

"Trident Mercenary Group."

"Trident? Never heard of it. Okay, do you have any objectives or political demands?"

"No, it’s just for... money."

"Targeting civilians?"

"We are not terrorists; we never engage in terrorist actions."

McDonald Quinn was very satisfied, "Good, I’m now a member of the Trident Mercenary Group. Don’t be shy if there’s anything you need me to do. A few tens of thousands of British Pounds a year will do. My demands are not very high. Also, I can’t be causing trouble in the United Kingdom, or the Home Office will go mad. It’d negatively affect the peace situation in Northern Ireland, so we need to get that straight first."

After McDonald rambled on, he looked at Yang Yi with a wary face, "Do you agree?"

Yang Yizhen really only wanted to hire McDonald for one job, not to recruit him into the Organization of Water.

McDonald was registered with the UK’s Home Office. What was there to gain by recruiting him into the Organization of Water? Yang Yi had already been targeted by MI5, and it had not been easy to climb on board with the "cleaners" in hopes of removing his criminal record at MI5. Now was he supposed to provoke McDonald and have MI5 go completely insane?

Yang Yi felt he had been saddled with a burden.

Seeing Yang Yi’s troubled expression, McDonald, still wary, said, "If you don’t agree, then I might as well live out my life in peace."

McDonald refused to leave.

Bringing in a well-known bomb don into the Organization of Water would definitely have its advantages, but the number of times a demolition expert would actually be needed was few, while the constant and very real threats they brought were many.

After thinking it over for a short while, Yang Yi quickly nodded, "All right! I’ll give you fifty thousand British Pounds a year, and you’ll work for us long-term."

McDonald nodded in satisfaction, then agreed to continue on.

Yang Yi’s plan was to have McDonald take care of the immediate tasks at hand first. As for what would happen after that, it wasn’t up to McDonald to decide, was it?

"Something urgent, isn’t it? When are you planning to act?"

"It is urgent. It’s possible we’ll take action today."

"That urgent, huh? Well, you’ll need to prepare the stuff for me then."

"No problem. I can give you everything you need."

Yang Yi waited to hear what McDonald would ask for, but McDonald just smiled and said, "After so many years, finally someone remembers me, and it feels good."

Curious, Yang Yi asked, "Has no one asked you for help?"

"Who would dare?"

McDonald said with a sigh, "That’s why I should thank you! Thanks for coming to me. You truly have an eye for talent. Honestly, I admire your courage and discernment. Believe me, your choice is undoubtedly correct. No matter what you want to blow up, leaving it to me will definitely be the right call."

To bring McDonald into one’s organization did indeed require a lot of courage—not every mercenary group or spy organization had the guts to face the wrath or fear from the United Kingdom.

Swallowing hard, Yang Yi said, "Our opponents are actually quite powerful..."

"More powerful than the British government?"

"Er, probably not."

"Then there you go. I’ve been opposing the British government for decades and you don’t see them doing much to me."

Yang Yi couldn’t help asking, "Don’t you want to ask whom we will be targeting?"

Mike Donald looked at Yang Yi, "I’m just afraid I won’t get the chance to act!"

Yang Yi exhaled and said, "Let me explain the details to you now. First, we need to go to Rome..."

McDonald shook his head, "Stop, no need to say any more. Demolition isn’t just talk; this isn’t about planting a car bomb. This is precision demolition; I need to see the type of building with my own eyes, or at least you should give me a blueprint."
