Chapter 511: Chapter 499 Too Sudden

The exchange rate of the US Dollar to the Gryvna was at its highest before the Ukrainian unrest, reaching over six to one. But now, with the Gryvna’s rate plummeting, it has fallen to around twelve or thirteen to one. On the black market, it’s even reached twenty to one.

Looking at the state of Ukraine, the Gryvna’s exchange rate is poised to continue falling.

Even at the Gryvna’s highest rate, Anton’s fee for doing someone’s dirty work was only around eight hundred US Dollars.

Anton, such a skilled hitman, charging eight hundred US Dollars per job— who would believe it.

When he got into the car sent by the cleaner, Yang Yi was still pondering how much to give Anton, while Anton simply slept as soon as he got in the car. By the time they boarded the plane, Yang Yi had decided not to give too much, but also not to undercut Anton’s pay.

Even though Anton didn’t care, and Yang Yi was indeed eager to save some money, there was money that simply couldn’t be skimped on.

Anton was not a man of many words, and he was even less interesting when tired. However, Yang Yi felt very reassured doing anything with Anton by his side.

In fact, up to this point, Yang Yi did not know exactly how formidable Anton was, but he just felt assured.

The plane landed at Palermo Airport.

The plane was a regular commercial flight. All the cleaner had done was to ensure Yang Yi and Anton could carry their guns through security and board the plane, but nothing else was arranged—not even a VIP passage to leave the airport. Of course, that had not been part of the cleaner’s plans.

Yang Yi knew McDonald’s address and his alias, so once they left the airport, he and Anton took a taxi straight for their destination.

Yang Yi was learning all the languages he deemed necessary—English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean—practising whichever one he could, whenever he had the chance. With his intelligence, learning a few languages wasn’t particularly difficult.

Moreover, he mainly wanted to leverage his advantage as an East Asian by learning Japanese and Korean to be able to use them when needed, like for trips to Japan or South Korea.

In the midst of learning Italian, Yang Yi started chatting with the taxi driver as soon as they got into the taxi, while Anton, he was still asleep.

Italians are naturally loud, and Yang Yi’s imperfect Italian forced the taxi driver to frequently raise his voice to correct Yang Yi’s pronunciation. Even so, it wasn’t enough to disturb Anton’s sleep. But as soon as the taxi driver stopped the car, Anton immediately opened his eyes.

Wiping his face, Anton got out of the car looking very alert.

"Here?"

Yang Yi pointed to a house close to the coast and whispered, "That’s the one, no mistake."

Anton exhaled and said, "Negotiate first?"

"Definitely need to talk first."

Anton glanced around and whispered, "I’ll steal a car. If we need to take someone hostage, we’ll need our own vehicle. But it’s not too important. After subduing someone, we can just drive their car."

Yang Yi nodded and said, "Right, so don’t rush to find a car. Let’s find the person and talk first."

After speaking, Yang Yi crossed the street and approached the gate of a white-painted house on the opposite side.

The white exterior and red roof of the two-story cottage were nestled in the shade of the trees, with a stone beach less than ten meters from the front yard. McDonald really knew how to enjoy life.

Yang Yi rang the doorbell, and a few seconds later pressed it again.

After waiting for about a minute with no one coming to the door, Yang Yi turned to Anton and said, "No one’s home."

"Should we go in and check?"

Unlocking a lock was a piece of cake for Yang Yi, and it wasn’t much of a challenge for Anton either.

"That’s quite impolite, it’s better not to do such things."

Checking his watch, Yang Yi said in a deep voice, "It’s half past ten now, I know where he is, let’s go find him."

Yang Yi started to walk outside; after walking down two streets, he and Anton arrived at a small park in the heart of the street.

Walking around the park, Yang Yi saw a person sitting on a bench.

Dressed in a white shirt with a checkered vest on top, even though he saw only the back, Yang Yi went straight over without hesitation.

Coming face to face, the man sitting on the bench was indeed McDonald Quinn.

McDonald held a piece of bread in his hands; he was breaking it into pieces and feeding the pigeons. When Yang Yi and Anton stood in front of him, McDonald merely looked up, then continued feeding the pigeons.

Yang Yi stopped about five meters in front of McDonald, because the group of pigeons were in front of McDonald, and he was worried that getting any closer might scare the pigeons away.

Yang Yi just stood there, and McDonald continued to feed the pigeons until he had thrown all the bread on the ground, and only after the group of pigeons had finished eating and flown away did Yang Yi finally speak.

Taking two steps forward, Yang Yi bowed slightly, his voice deep, "Hello, Mr. Quinn, may I have a word with you?"

McDonald looked up at Yang Yi, then pointed to the spot next to him, saying, "Please, have a seat."

Yang Yi sat down next to McDonald, and then McDonald, with a smile, said, "You know who I am, so denying it would be pointless. Go ahead, tell me, what do you want with me?"

Yang Yi didn’t know what to say. The situation had unfolded more smoothly than he had anticipated. He thought that a retired old man might be very resistant to being bothered and would first try to deny his identity, which was why McDonald’s immediate admission had rendered Yang Yi’s prepared speech useless.

Skipping over his prepared speech, Yang Yi said quietly, "I’d like to ask you to do something for me."

McDonald waited, and when he realized Yang Yi wasn’t continuing, he nodded and said, "Hmm, I’m listening."

Yang Yi’s prepared speech was once again useless. After considering what he could discard, he said in a serious tone, "I’d like to ask for your help in blowing open a door."

McDonald nodded and replied, "Hmm, and then?"

"Uh, there’s no ’then.’ It’s just asking you to blow open a wall, or perhaps, perhaps you might need to help blow open a safe, nothing else. Plus, I can pay you a sum of money; you name your price."

McDonald laughed and said, "It’s time you revealed your identities. MI5? MI6?"

Yang Yi shook his head and replied, "Neither. Actually, we are, uh, we’re a Mercenary Group and also deal in intelligence, not affiliated with any country."

McDonald finally showed some surprise, saying quietly, "I thought only MI5 and MI6 would know I’m here."

Yang Yi smiled and said, "We infiltrated the Home Office’s database and accidentally found your information, so I came looking for you. If I’ve offended you, I apologize."

McDonald stroked his chin and asked, "Where to, to blow up what?"

"Rome, to blow open a wall in a basement, a structural wall, very thick, made of reinforced concrete."

McDonald thought for a while, then nodded and said, "Okay, I can go."

Yang Yi was still thinking about what to say if he was rejected, but hearing McDonald’s response, he was once again stunned and then said in relief, "You agree? Uh, that’s great, thank you!"
