Chapter 420: Chapter 408: Coming Out of the Mountain
Time slowly passed in training, Yang Yi and the others spent the New Year at the training camp, and then witnessed the days getting longer as the sun rose earlier.
It was already 2014.
The training was tough and exhausting, but it was truly effective.
The most difficult part for Yang Yi was the shooting training. The daily volume of 5,000 bullets was not something everyone could handle, but since Brian had set this shooting volume, it had to be completed.
Both of Yang Yi’s hands and shoulders were swollen, and Kate’s hands were even more swollen than his.
In fact, the hands of all four shooting rookies were swollen to the point that during the daily routine tactical training, it was difficult for Yang Yi and his group to hold their guns properly.
But the improvements brought by the large shooting volume were enormous. Yang Yi felt he was improving every day and was currently in a state of rapid progress. Before he hit the next plateau, his progress could be described as advancing by leaps and bounds.
The training camp was full of good shooters: Paul, Xiao Ran, Alexander. All three of them could serve as snipers, but Xiao Ran and Alexander leaned toward precision shooters, while Paul was more of a true sniper. Therefore, based on Yang Yi’s characteristics, the only person who could teach him was Paul.
After Yang Yi finished a round of shooting, Paul said to him in a deep voice, "Now we can finally confirm it, your gun sense is not very good."
Yang Yi looked at Paul and asked, "You are saying this to me for the first time. Is my gun sense really that bad?"
"No, it’s not really bad, just not good enough. You are just an ordinary person. Ordinary people can also have good shooting skills through training, but you will never become the best sniper because your gun sense is not good enough."
Feeling somewhat unconvinced, Yang Yi asked, "Is gun sense that important?"
Paul nodded and replied, "Gun sense is very important. For a shooter, gun sense is what separates the geniuses from the ordinary people. For example..."
Paul grabbed a pistol, and without even looking at the target, he shot sideways and still hit the target.
Paul put down the pistol and said to Yang Yi, "See, this is gun sense."
Yang Yi’s marksmanship had improved considerably, and he could even be considered quite good considering his intense practice over the past several days had not been in vain. But to shoot without even looking at the target and still hit it, as Paul did, was something he dared not even think about.
Yang Yi was dumbfounded.
Paul continued indifferently, "Xiao Ran has very good gun sense, and so do I. That’s why I am the best shooter. Xiao Ran might become the best shooter, but you don’t have that potential."
Disappointed, Yang Yi said in a low voice, "Is that so..."
Paul sighed and said, "Are you very disappointed? There’s no need. Not everyone has gun sense. Take Brian for instance; his gun sense is not that great."
Yang Yi replied in surprise, "Ah? But Brian’s shooting skills are so good!"
"You and him are both average in terms of natural shooting talent, not too good, but not bad either. However, Brian can take his shooting skills to the limit, so he is the best shooter."
Yang Yi asked, "Then what’s the use of having good gun sense?"
After a moment of silence, Paul said seriously, "To make a shot that ordinary people like you can never manage to pull off. That’s the value of gun sense."
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "Although I’m a bit disappointed, knowing that Brian is the same as me makes me feel much better."
Paul smiled and responded, "You are stronger than Brian because you have a computer-like brain. You are a robot, so in the role of a sniper, you have the potential to become a very unique and formidable presence. I’m telling you all this to let you know one thing: your role is to be a sniper who doesn’t shoot hastily but ensures a hit when he does."
After speaking, Paul extended a finger and added, "One shot! When you need to shoot, you can only take one shot, no matter how long you have to wait, no matter what preparations you need to make. The most important target is yours; use the steadiness of your robot-like precision to fire a bullet that will never miss. Now, do you understand your position?"
Yang Yi pondered for a long time, then nodded and said, "I understand."
Paul took a deep breath, patted Yang Yi’s shoulder, and said, "Starting tomorrow we’ll train with this focus in mind. Now, continue shooting."
Yang Yi picked up the pistol, took a deep breath, and began steadily firing one bullet after another.
During the intervals between his shots, Yang Yi thought he heard a phone ringing.
The sound of gunfire was loud, and Yang Yi couldn’t be sure if it was a phone because his satellite phone was inside his clothes.
After taking the phone out, Yang Yi saw that someone indeed had called him.
It was a call from Justin.
Almost three months in the training camp, this was the first phone call Yang Yi had received.
Yang Yi walked a few steps outside, then called Justin back.
"Is there gunfire?"
"I’m shooting; what’s the matter?"
Justin said softly, "Yes, something’s come up. How do you like Finland?"
"It’s not bad, I have to thank you for finding us this place. Aside from the cold, everything else is fine."
"Have you recovered physically?"
"Yes, very well, thanks for asking."
"Then are you ready to come out?"
Yang Yi was taken aback. He felt he still had a lot to improve and there were many things at the Organization of Water that needed practice, so he had no intention of leaving yet.
But Justin’s sudden call implied he had something important.
"Is there something?"
Justin spoke very seriously, "Aren’t you aware of what’s happening in the outside world?"
"Sorry, we’re mostly without power here. We don’t have a TV and we never go online, so what’s happening in the outside world right now?"
"Oh my goodness, Ukraine is in chaos, the Middle East is a complete mess, and most importantly, Deyo Mather and Big Ivan are at war! They’ve officially started fighting!"
"It sounds like a lot has happened. What does that have to do with us?"
Justin said gravely, "The Ukrainian government is in disarray, and given the current situation, Ukraine is going to be very chaotic. Ukraine is Big Ivan’s most important arms depot. Now Deyo Mather has made his move; he’s trying to take Ukraine out of Big Ivan’s hands. So right now, Deyo Mather really, really needs manpower. Do you understand?"
"I understand."
Justin spoke gravely, "This is a great opportunity. You can work for Deyo Mather, and while earning Deyo Mather’s commission, you will have the chance to find out his whereabouts. Buddy, they need a team like yours. This time you need to help me."
