Chapter 418: Chapter 406 Rookie’s Dignity
Alexander and Pasanin walked out, looking much more relaxed compared to the annoyed Brian.
"Good job, guys, let’s switch it up now. This is an adversarial exercise, so having a variety of opponents to practice against is a good thing. Now it’s our turn to attack and you three defend. How about that?"
Alexander completely ignored Yang Yi and the rest of the rookies and made the suggestion to switch from defense to offense to Brian, which was, of course, part of an earlier plan.
The first adversarial exercise always had to cover all bases.
Brian looked at Zhang Yong with a stony face, then suddenly said, "No, I think just the two of us defending is fine."
Zhang Yong was left out. Clearly, Brian trusted himself and his longtime partner, Paul, more. Zhang Yong was skilled, but he had no synergy with Brian and Paul.
Zhang Yong just shrugged, showing no particular expression, but Yang Yi was not going to stand for it.
Even though it was only an exercise, and for many in the Organization of Water it was their first with little combat capability, rookies had their pride too.
Being ignored made Yang Yi very uncomfortable. While self-awareness was good, even if he knew he and the other fodder like Chris weren’t as competent, he couldn’t let himself be ignored without any response. Yang Yi’s pride prevented him from staying silent any longer.
"Hold on!"
Brian and Alexander both turned their attention to Yang Yi.
"How about this instead? This time, we rookies will attack — just us, um, the four of us!"
Cannon fodder trio plus himself, Yang Yi stated his demand.
Then Yang Yi turned to Xiao Ran and said, "You provide support from the outside."
Xiao Ran rolled her eyes and said angrily, "Are you kidding me? This is indoor combat. You want me to stay outside for support?"
"But you only have a sniper rifle. How are you going to fight indoors?"
Xiao Ran pulled out her large and accessory-laden handgun and retorted angrily, "I have a pistol too!"
"Alright, alright, the five of us then."
Yang Yi looked at Alexander and said, "We five will attack, and you two defend. Be careful, it won’t look good if you lose to us."
Pasanin burst into hearty laughter, while Brian couldn’t help but chuckle too, but thinking it was a bit too disrespectful to Yang Yi, he turned his head to laugh secretly.
Zhang Yong sighed and said, "Alright, I’ve been scorned. Nobody wants me, so I’ll just enjoy the show."
Alexander spread his hands, then smiled and said, "Since you insist, come on then. We’ll go in first."
Alexander waved his hand and casually walked back into the cabin with Pasanin.
Yang Yi took a deep breath, then he approached Kate and whispered a few words to her, prompting Kate to quickly run towards her own cabin.
A few minutes later, Kate came back, carrying a box.
Yang Yi opened the box, took out a pair of glasses, put them on his face, and then stuffed a bunch of tiny drones into his pocket.
Brian frowned and asked, "What are you doing?"
Yang Yi smiled and said, "We’re using high-tech to make up for lack of experience, alright, we can start now."
Yang Yi drew his pistol, waved his hand forward, and then said in a low voice, "Let’s stick to the same formation as before, and move out."
It was dark outside, and even darker inside the wooden hut. After following the cannon fodder assault team into the hut, Yang Yi immediately released the first drone.
The equipment Mike had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on was certainly not to be abandoned, so Yang Yi brought it along. The severe cold reduced the drones’ flight time significantly, but if kept warm in a pocket, two minutes of flight for a mini drone was still manageable.
Yang Yi pressed his glasses twice and whispered, "I’ll lead. You guys follow me. Once we spot the enemy, I’ll let you know."
After that, Yang Yi drew his pistol and started walking in front.
The drone flew up to the roof, then skimmed along it, entering one dark room after another ahead of Yang Yi and his team.
The wooden hut used for indoor combat training was just a shell. Some rooms had windows, others did not; the huts were all connected so that one could continue moving indoors by following doors or hallways.
After advancing through five rooms, Yang Yi suddenly stopped and then released two more mini drones.
The exercise didn’t allow for grenades, and there were no bulletproof vests; in reality, it was a test of reflexes in an encounter. Brian and the others were at a disadvantage because they lacked visibility, but now Yang Yi had mini drones to provide him with a view, and Alexander’s team was still unaware.
Yang Yi halted, then in an extremely faint voice said, "In the fourth room ahead, behind the door on the left there is one, and on the right at the corner there is another."
Fearing that Alexander and his team might hear him, Yang Yi brought his four teammates close and said in a very low voice, "I can’t engage in intense activities, so I’ll go in first. Rodriguez, you’ll go in beside me. We are certain to get hit. Blade Queen, you have the best marksmanship, so follow behind us. Iron Fist on your left and Chris on your right. Even if we all get hit, you should be able to take down the two of them."
It was just an exercise; nobody would die. After making quick arrangements, Yang Yi grabbed Rodriguez, and the four of them surrounded Xiao Ran in the middle, then all five swiftly approached the room where Alexander and his team were hiding.
When they reached the door, Alexander and his team did not shoot from within. They stayed in their original positions, so Yang Yi pulled Rodriguez and charged in immediately.
Yang Yi was hit before he could do anything, but as they rushed in around Xiao Ran, a bright light flashed on behind his head.
No blanks were used, so there was no gunshot noise, but the moment Yang Yi and his team rushed in, five little red lights that signified hits lit up in the room.
Both Yang Yi and Rodriguez were hit, as was Chris, but the other two red lights were not Xiao Ran and Kate; they were Alexander and Pasanin.
Xiao Ran turned on the flashlight attached to her pistol, and in a very short amount of time, she shot both Alexander and Pasanin before Kate was hit. Of course, Kate was also in a better position, so the laser couldn’t pass through the body to hit her.
So neither the cannon fodder trio nor the support team was completely wiped out, but the Aurora Mercenary Corps was.
Even if there were only two members of Aurora present, since they represented Aurora, they were definitely wiped out.
"Yay!"
Chris let out a loud cheer and then yelled, "Who won this time? Hahaha!"
Pasanin was extremely astonished and said, "Although your tactics were shameless, how did you manage to do it?"
