Chapter 404: Chapter 392 New Training
Zhang Yong’s thoughts were too erratic; Yang Yi couldn’t keep up.
Just a moment ago, he was despondent, and in the blink of an eye, Zhang Yong started wondering if the legend about urine freezing into a stick was true, and he indeed seemed ready to go out and take a piss to verify it.
Right then, someone knocked on the door.
Brian and Paul pushed the door open and came in, followed closely by Xiao Ran, who entered cradling her rifle in her arms.
As soon as she entered the room, Xiao Ran couldn’t wait to say, "It’s too cold, too cold, my gun is frozen! It can fire, but the semi-automatic has turned into a bolt-action rifle. I have to pull the bolt every time to chamber a round, and the feeding is very unreliable."
Brian calmly said, "Both people and guns need to adapt to extreme cold, but clearly that’s not the priority right now. Since Zhang Yong is here, then you know what happened?"
Yang Yi nodded and said, "I know, we lost miserably."
Zhang Yong stood up sheepishly; he cleared the table and said to Yang Yi, "You better eat quickly; I’m going back to my room to rest."
Brian gestured for Zhang Yong to wait and said, "Don’t rush off."
After a pause, Brian continued indifferently, "We’ve all had cold climate combat training. Pandora exists to counter the Soviets, and to target them, we must adapt to the cold climate. That’s why we trained in Alaska. Only, polar climate conditions are not our main operating environment. We just underwent adaptive training, not targeted training. And after we were deployed to the Middle East, we never had cold climate training again."
Brian paused, then looked at Zhang Yong and slowly said, "Anyway, you are an old soldier. To be defeated in such an inconceivable manner by Pasanin is indeed beyond belief. In all the training and combat I’ve been through, I’ve never heard of such an outrageous thing."
Zhang Yong had nothing to say in response.
Brian smiled and then continued, "But that’s a good thing, it means Pasanin is skilled, with expertise we don’t have. I’ve just spoken with him. He’s willing to train you; he knows what to do while you don’t even know how to protect yourselves in the cold."
Yang Yi reflected for a moment and said, "But it’s unlikely we will operate in such harsh environments in the future, right? Is training for extreme polar terrain really necessary?"
"Of course, it is; harsh environments forge strong physiques. We’ve lived too long in temperate climates, but if you can adapt to extreme cold, you can also withstand extreme heat. In short, severe climates are beneficial for training novices."
After finishing, Brian glanced at his watch and then with a smile said, "I’ve arranged with Pasanin to start training in twenty minutes. We’ll begin not with combat skills, but simply learning how not to get frostbite outside. So everyone, gather your stuff and meet in the dining hall; Pasanin will be waiting for you there."
During this conversation, Chris arrived, dressed in everything he could wear, wrapping himself up like a bear.
"I’m ready."
Chris said with a gloomy face, and then innocently said, "I’m non-combat personnel, everyone, Mr. Brian, boss, I’m non-combat personnel. Is this necessary?"
Brian smiled and said, "From now on, the Organization of Water doesn’t have non-combat personnel."
"What about Tang Guo and Schultz..."
Brian looked enlightened, then immediately said, "Sorry, my mistake. Let me correct that: from now on, you are no longer non-combat personnel. Are you satisfied with that answer?"
Chris remained silent with a gloomy face, but Zhang Yong whispered, "Then, I’m not necessary, right?"
Yang Yi and Brian both looked at Zhang Yong, making him feel embarrassed, and then he murmured, "I was just saying."
Yang Yi looked towards Kate and then saw a face full of determination.
Kate and Xiao Ran had to train too, aside from Yang Yi and Brian. Of course, Paul couldn’t train yet because, although he could move, he wasn’t in a condition to train.
Yang Yi said in a deep voice, "Everyone must be careful, do not get frostbite. I want to warn you that fingers can easily freeze off, and severe hypothermia can be fatal."
Brian smiled and said, "That’s why we need Pasanin to train them. Now, if you please, leave us."
Here, the most important thing to watch out for was actually frostbite.
Once the others had left, only the three who didn’t need to train, including Yang Yi, remained.
Brian pointed to the food in front of Yang Yi and said, "Hurry up and eat, eat your medicine after mealtime, and after the medicine, we’ll start our training."
Yang Yi said in some surprise, "I really want to start training immediately, but how can I train in this condition?"
Paul picked up a box and shook it in front of Yang Yi, then said sternly, "We’ll train right here, of course, only the tasks you can do."
Yang Yi didn’t eat much; he finished his meal quickly. After he was done, Brian pointed to the bed and said, "Put your stuff on the bed."
Paul placed the box he was carrying on the bed, opened it, then laid out each handgun from the box onto the bed.
There were six handguns in total, all of which Yang Yi had used and was familiar with. When he saw the handguns laid out on the bed, he asked curiously, "What for?"
Paul said solemnly, "If you want to improve your shooting, start with disassembling. Now, take the guns apart."
Yang Yi quickly disassembled the six handguns into parts, and once he had scattered the guns, Paul immediately said, "Put them back together."
Assembling and disassembling handguns was no problem for Yang Yi.
After Yang Yi had reassembled the guns, Brian nodded and said, "Very well, practice this. But first, watch how Paul does it."
Paul stood in front of the bed and began to take apart the handguns quickly, then reassembled them. The time it took to disassemble each gun varied—some were a bit faster, some slower, but even without timing, Yang Yi knew that for the slowest handgun, Paul completed the disassembly in under ten seconds.
Eventually, Yang Yi realized that Paul had been doing it all with his eyes closed.
After disassembling and assembling the guns with his eyes closed, Paul smiled and said, "Now, let’s play a little game."
Paul took apart the guns, scattered the parts on the bed in front of him, and after a while, he had taken apart all six handguns and piled them up together, even swiping through them with his hand.
The disassembly just now wasn’t complete, but this time, Paul had taken the guns apart very thoroughly.
Paul closed his eyes again, and then he waited for Brian’s command to begin, reaching his hand out to pick a part from the pile.
It was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. After picking the first part, Paul had to sort through parts from six guns to find the matching pieces. His hands flew, organizing the parts and setting aside each piece he touched without a break, and soon, he had reassembled all six guns.
