Chapter 339: Chapter 327: The Super Advanced
Testing the poison needle hidden in the watch is out of the question, but these glasses must be tried.
Yang Yi picked up the sunglasses and put them on, then he realized they were actually quite normal, so he asked curiously, "How do they work?"
Mike said in a grave tone, "The sunglasses function the same as normal glasses but are suited for different wearing scenarios. Eight miniature drone cameras can transmit the captured images to the glasses. First, pick up a drone and press it twice lightly."
The drone was the size of a one-dollar coin, about one centimeter thick, with rotors roughly the size of a dime. A slender frame within the circular border held the rotors in place, and there was a small protrusion on the frame. After Yang Yi pressed it twice, the drone’s rotors immediately began to spin.
Feeling the lift, Yang Yi let go, and the drone quickly flew towards the ceiling. Just when he thought it would crash into the ceiling, he saw it stop a few centimeters from the ceiling, hanging motionless in the air.
"Press the nose pad on the left side of the sunglasses."
Yang Yi pressed the nose pad of the sunglasses, and then a small screen instantly appeared on the lens of his left eye.
Yang Yi exclaimed in delight, "It’s very clear!"
Mike spoke solemnly, "You can control up to two drones simultaneously on your own. Now, take a few steps."
As Yang Yi walked a few steps within the room, the drone kept following above his head, continuously transmitting images captured by its wide-angle camera to his glasses. Thus, his left eye could always see the entirety of the room, despite some distortion due to the angle of the footage, he now had a 360-degree field of vision.
"This is amazing, how long can it last?"
"A single drone can fly for up to forty minutes, primarily determined by the battery life. The battery level will be displayed on the bottom left of the image, and a warning will be given when the battery is down to ten percent."
"How do you retrieve it?"
"Press the nose pad twice."
Yang Yi pressed the nose pad twice, and then the drone flew down from the ceiling almost silently, only making a buzzing similar to that of a mosquito’s as it neared his glasses.
Yang Yi opened his palm and caught the drone in his hand, then after pressing the button once more, the rotors of the drone immediately stopped spinning.
"This is phenomenal, but how do I control the flight? Is its only function to provide an unobstructed view?"
Mike smiled proudly, then said in a deep voice, "This set is worth four hundred thousand US dollars! One hundred thousand for a pair of glasses, so be careful not to drop them."
Yang Yi nearly bit his tongue, then he stammered, "How much?"
Mike did not repeat the price, he simply smiled and said, "Do you think something this expensive would only serve to provide a view?"
Mike stood up and walked over to the bed, where he took out a small box from the glasses case. After opening it, inside was a tiny chip.
Holding the chip in his hand, Mike took a deep breath and said, "This chip can be installed in any smartphone, and then both the glasses and the drones can connect to the phone signal. Using the phone as a signal transmission device, it can connect to external control systems, so this is a system, a system that allows others to help you operate!"
Yang Yi knew that technology was advanced and he also knew that the gadgets real spies used were at least two generations ahead of the most advanced technology on the civilian market, but the functionality of these glasses still exceeded his imagination.
With pride on his face, Mike continued, "This system includes two miniature earpieces, eight miniature drones, two pairs of glasses, and a chip to be installed in a smartphone. Leveraging mobile signal transmission, someone on the operating system can help you control up to four drones. You can’t control the flight state and route of the drones, but as long as someone helps you, these drones can be up to two hundred meters away from you under good transmission conditions, or even on the other side of a wall indoors to transmit images to you."
Yang Yi swallowed hard and asked, "What if there’s no one to help me operate them?"
"The drones will follow automatically. You’ll need to release and retrieve them manually, but if someone is operating these drones, they can inform you in real-time about everything happening around you, as long as your phone is still on. And furthermore..."
Mike hadn’t finished explaining the functions when he smiled and added, "If the external operator can hack into the surveillance of your location, they can send you the surveillance footage. Combined with the use of drones, you would have an unobstructed view of everything."
This was truly having eyes in the back of one’s head.
Yang Yi was so excited he was at a loss for words, stuttering, "The four hundred thousand is not expensive, not expensive at all!"
Mike nodded and said, "It’s not expensive, it’s practically a friendly price. I suspect it’s indeed at cost."
Yang Yi carefully took off the glasses and placed them back into the glasses case with extreme caution before letting out a long sigh, "I feel like I’ve got a luxury car on my face, it’s terrifying. I don’t even dare walk around..."
He didn’t need to try out the watch’s functions, as the remaining equipment was almost entirely night vision gear: five low-light night vision goggles, one thermal imaging scope, and one thermal imaging search device.
Looking at the night vision equipment in the bag, Mike said regretfully, "We didn’t have money to buy better night vision gear, so for now, we’ll have to make do with second-hand ones. But their performance is not bad, definitely not something those civilian products can match. These night vision devices cost us eighty thousand US Dollars, but that’s also a very good price."
Shaking his head, Mike sat back on the sofa and then turned to Yang Yi, "Our biggest problem now is money. We can only buy the essential equipment for now and slowly upgrade when we have the funds."
Yang Yi remarked with emotion, "I understand now how much a spy is worth. Those spies decked out in top-notch gear must be wearing millions of US Dollars on them."
Mike scoffed and said, "Poverty limits your imagination. Ask Brian how much his equipment used to cost. As for our intelligence agency, hehe, the equipment I used in the eighties was worth millions of US Dollars, and that was in the eighties!"
Yang Yi dared not speak any further, afraid to reveal how inexperienced he was.
Mike dismissed the topic with a wave of his hand and said, "Eric Fulrand, nicknamed ’Christmas Tree.’ Remember this man—he specializes in trading spy gear. You can’t go wrong buying in London through him. His prices may be higher than others, but his goods are genuine. He’ll never sell counterfeits, and he doesn’t exaggerate the capabilities of his equipment. That’s important because you have to know that spies can die if their equipment malfunctions or if its functions are overstated."
Yang Yi memorized the name Eric Fulrand and a phone number, then said to Mike solemnly, "Thank you, Mike."
Mike nodded, then added in a serious tone, "Eric might have connections with MI6 because he always seems to have exclusive good stuff from them. You can negotiate prices with him. It’s fine not to buy if you’re not satisfied, but never threaten him, and definitely do not hack his stuff. Even if you think it’s easy, don’t do it, don’t even think about it, never!"
