Chapter 257: Chapter 256 Traces

The person who most wanted Boer dead was already gone, and then Boer was hit by an unprecedented all-round attack.

What does this imply? It implies that the person who wanted Boer dead was no longer the stupid wife Boer spoke of, but someone else.

Someone even more formidable.

Whether it was hired individuals or his own subordinates, being able to send out dozens of people with machine guns and rocket launchers to bomb Boer on the streets of Las Vegas alone was proof enough of the new opponent’s strength.

The scariest part was that they were not just satisfied with the physical elimination of Boer, the FBI had gone to Boer’s house to investigate, and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network had investigated Boer’s company. It was a three-pronged attack, aiming to uproot Boer completely.

Yang Yi felt it would be wise not to provoke such an opponent, and of course, he wanted to know who it was.

Although knowing too much was indeed dangerous, knowing nothing was even more dangerous. However, the current problem was that Boer himself did not know who wanted to kill him.

"I don’t know, I can’t think of who would want to kill me, I can’t think of any reason why anyone would do this."

Boer looked very haggard, he had recently been a banker, a wealthy man, but now, he had become a homeless dog.

Yang Yi increasingly doubted whether Boer still had the ability to pay him the promised reward.

Though it wasn’t said outright, Yang Yi’s expression clearly conveyed his concern. Boer sighed and said, "You don’t have to worry, of course, I can pay you the money I promised. As long as I can ensure my safety, I have many ways to give you the money."

Yang Yi shook his head gently, murmuring, "Alright, I believe your words."

Having said that, Yang Yi stood up, his face stern, "You should rest for a while, don’t lock the door. I’ll call you if anything

happens, we’re not at the point where we can relax yet."

After leaving Boer’s room, Yang Yi gently closed the door behind him and returned to the room he shared with Xiao Ran.

"How did it go?"

"It’s done, if we’re lucky, we’ll soon find Zhang Yong’s whereabouts."

"I mean, how did your talk with Boer go?"

"I asked him. The situation is very complicated now. I guess, it’s very likely that the Rockefeller Family wants to take action against Boer."

Xiao Ran responded with extreme surprise, "What did you say?"

Yang Yi sighed and after briefly explaining what he had found out from Boer, he spoke softly, "Think about it, who else could have the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and the FBI simultaneously search Boer—not investigate, but search—and also deploy mercenaries here to physically eliminate Boer? Who else could do all this at once? Boer is after all from the Rockefeller Family. If other forces or families wanted to deal with him, they would have to consider the strength of the Rockefeller Family, right? But what if it’s the Rockefeller Family itself that wants to get rid of Boer?"

After a long pause, Xiao Ran finally said, "Do you have any evidence?"

Yang Yi shook his head, "What evidence could I have? This is purely conjecture, just eliminating all the impossibles and considering the remaining possibility that seems a bit likely. Luckily, this isn’t our concern. As long as we get Boer out of the United States safely and grab the fifty million he promised, our job is done. Everything else is none of our business."

Xiao Ran suddenly got excited and whispered to Yang Yi, "Just the two of us, fifty million US dollars! Just the two of us are making fifty million—do you realize that? My adoptive mother would consider it a lot to get half a million for a mission, but we’re about to make fifty million in one go. But do you think Boer can still come up with that kind of money?"

Yang Yi spoke in a low voice, "Boer will surely have kept some backup plans for himself. We shouldn’t bother about that too much. He’s in our hands; if he can’t come up with the fifty million, well... I don’t think Boer is stupid."

After finishing, Yang Yi spoke softly, "But now, I need to make a call to Mike and Brian, let them know our situation. If we make it to Europe, we’ll need them to back us up. Once we rendezvous with them, we’ll be completely safe."

Pulling out the satellite phone, Yang Yi called Mike and, once connected, detailed the situation to him.

Mike pondered for a long time before speaking softly, "Your speculation is very likely. There aren’t many who could pull off something like this, and the Rockefeller Family is indeed the most suspicious. Remember, under no circumstances should you get too involved. Deliver Boer, get the ten million dollars, and severe all ties with him immediately."

Yang Yi said quietly, "I wanted to see if you had any other ideas, didn’t expect you to agree with me. Oh, and another thing, it’s not ten million dollars now, it’s fifty million. I originally wanted to ask for a hundred million, but Boer just wouldn’t agree."

"Five... fuck! Fifty million?"

Mike sounded like he bit his own tongue as he exclaimed unclearly, "Fifty million?"

"Yes, it’s the price I offered while he was about to be killed."

Mike remarked sincerely, "That’s great! With fifty million dollars, we can quickly put our entire framework together. Your timing was perfect! Listen, if things get too tough, let me know. Going back to the US to save Boer would be worth it now. This is a fifty million dollar deal; it would be worth it for any reason!"

Everyone gets excited over fifty million, but for Yang Yi, it seemed insignificant because, for him, money was just numbers. More or less didn’t seem to make much difference. The main reason, however, was that this fifty million represented the first deal he completed on his own, and he didn’t yet know how hard it was to make money.

After ending his call with Mike, Yang Yi said to Xiao Ran, "Let’s take turns resting. We don’t know what we might run into. From now on, we must make sure one of us is always awake. I’ll sleep a bit now, and then I can keep watch at night."

Xiao Ran immediately got up from the bed, saying, "Alright, you sleep first."

Yang Yi placed his handgun on the right side of the pillow and his knife on the left, then lay down on the bed and closed his eyes. He wasn’t sleepy yet, but he felt tired and thought he could fall asleep.

Yang Yi soon drifted off to sleep.

When Yang Yi was nudged awake, he immediately opened his eyes and reached for his knife.

"That’s the wrong reaction, man. Shouldn’t you grab the gun first?"

Yang Yi quickly realized that it was Xiao Ran standing by his bed. He let out a sigh of relief, rubbed his somewhat blurry eyes, and said with a hint of resignation, "It’s habit, the knife feels more natural to me."

"Get up. It’s eleven at night now. Someone brought dinner, and I saved it for you. Eat something; I will sleep now. Wake me up at four in the morning. You can’t keep watch alone in the latter part of the night; it’s easy to nod off."

Yang Yi washed his face, picked up the cold hamburger Xiao Ran had saved for him, and was about to eat when Boer came bustling over from his room, saying, "Mate, I’ve found the person you were looking for."
