Chapter 251: Chapter 250 Pursuit
The car behind was getting very close, yet Xiao Ran didn’t fire.
After tapping on her phone, Xiao Ran caused a sudden loud noise that made Yang Yi’s hands shake, nearly losing control of the car speeding at 100 kilometers per hour.
A familiar tune then began to play.
Yang Yi immediately turned off the stereo, as the volume was at its maximum, making it unbearable for him to listen.
Xiao Ran exclaimed angrily, "What are you doing! Turn it on!"
Yang Yi replied urgently, "Have you lost your mind? Now is not the time for music!"
Xiao Ran snapped, "This is my BGM! Either play the music, or get caught and shot to death by the pursuers—it’s your choice!"
Boer immediately shouted, "We must respect her choice!"
With a reach of his hand, Boer turned the stereo back on, and the familiar melody began to play again.
The volume was so loud that Boer had to yell, "This is the theme song from ’Kill Bill’, and I love this track!"
Yang Yi, of course, recognized the ’Kill Bill’ theme song ’Battle Without Honor or Humanity’; in fact, he quite liked it as well, but it wasn’t so enjoyable at that moment.
However, the main reason for disliking it was that it felt somewhat unserious to listen to music while being chased to be killed. Yet, when the familiar melody resumed, Yang Yi quickly felt that playing the song was not a bad idea. At least it made driving more vigorous, and he also couldn’t hear the gunshots from behind, which made him less nervous.
Xiao Ran raised her gun, aiming from the rear window and fired a shot at the pursuing car.
She missed.
Shooting from one fast-moving car to hit another was challenging enough, and hitting a person inside it was even harder. A machine gun with a high rate of fire might have struck a few lucky bullets, but Xiao Ran was using a precision rifle, not a machine gun.
Xiao Ran lowered the rifle and drew her pistol, aiming at the car beside her and began firing continuously.
After nearly emptying a magazine, Xiao Ran finally landed a shot, just one.
But the car that was nearest in pursuit suddenly swerved to one side, then lost control and began rolling.
Xiao Ran changed the magazine and shouted, "Faster!"
Yang Yi also wanted to speed up, but he was driving in the city, where cars behind him were stopping or getting out of the way, but the traffic in front of him was crawling. Managing to keep the car from crashing fatally at speeds above 100 kilometers per hour was already an achievement; speeding up further just wasn’t possible.
Boer was so bent forward his head was almost between his knees—he was a tall man, and it was a wonder how he managed that.
Yang Yi really wanted to ask what the Las Vegas police were doing. A group of people was almost turning the city upside down, and yet there were still no police in action.
There were already pursuers behind, and with no solution in sight, if there were a blockade ahead, they’d be doomed.
That’s what Yang Yi thought, and his thoughts soon became reality.
Several cars quickly drove up from the opposite lane, one of them turning violently and blocking the road.
Yang Yi screamed, "Enemy ahead!"
Las Vegas roads were mostly very wide, Yang Yi could drive straight ahead, but he dared not, fearing that as he brushed past the oncoming vehicles, he might get shot into a sieve.
Xiao Ran shouted, "I can’t do it!"
Yang Yi hit the brakes, then turned the car under extreme conditions into a side road.
The pursuers quickly followed, but at least Yang Yi no longer had to face the blockade ahead.
Xiao Ran screamed, "Stop the car!"
Yang Yi slammed on the brakes, and then Xiao Ran raised her pistol and fired repeatedly at the oncoming car, which soon lost control and shot out onto the roadside greenery.
"Impact!"
Xiao Ran yelled with all her might, followed by a loud crash. Yang Yi was jolted forward and then yanked back.
And Boer, he hadn’t buckled his seatbelt, so the force of the rear-ending sent him flying out, hitting the windshield with a loud bang before bouncing back onto the seat.
The collision wasn’t particularly severe because the speed of the car after the turn wasn’t too fast, maintaining a velocity of about thirty kilometers per hour. If it had been faster, the crash might have been fatal for Boer.
After a brief pause, Xiao Ran fired continuously and then bellowed, "Go!"
Now it was necessary to shout loudly to be heard, as the sound system was blaring too loudly.
The two cars behind them were taken care of, temporarily unable to pursue. Yang Yi floored the accelerator and sped forward anew.
But no sooner had Yang Yi driven off than a car skidded around the bend ahead, followed by another.
The lane was inherently narrow. With the enemy’s two cars coming side by side, there was simply no place to hide—nothing to do but collide head-on.
"Turn the car sideways!"
Yang Yi swiveled in place, turning the car sideways, while Xiao Ran stretched her rifle out the window and started firing at the oncoming enemies.
One shot, two shots, Xiao Ran fired continuously, then suddenly shouted, "Ditch the car! Quick!"
Yang Yi unbuckled his seatbelt, jumped out of the car, and after Xiao Ran threw him a backpack from behind, she ran out the rear door, rifle in hand.
Boer, wobbly, opened the passenger side door but fell to the ground as soon as he did, unable to walk.
Yang Yi had to run to the passenger door, bag in one hand, dragging Boer to safety with the other.
The streets of Las Vegas are mostly wide, and even though it was a smaller road, there were still many parking spaces on the side
and cars were about two hundred meters apart and moving at high speed. When Yang Yi dragged Boer to safety at the side of the road, they dove into one of the shops after Xiao Ran fired a few shots. Xiao Ran quickly gathered her rifle and said sternly, "Move!"
Dragging the stumbling Boer over the roadside greenery, Yang Yi started pulling Boer toward a clearing on the side of the road. They were in the city center, surrounded by buildings.
But it seemed every street in Las Vegas could allow car access.
It was hard to know where to run to.
A bewildered Boer asked, "Where can we go?"
Xiao Ran, gun at the ready and walking at the back of the trio, responded gravely, "We need to shake off our pursuers first. The enemy doesn’t care about the surroundings and we don’t know where they might come from next. Where should we go?"
Yang Yi didn’t know where to go either, but he felt that since these pursuers had found them time and again, this situation felt eerily familiar.
"Throw away your phone!"
Boer had already taken out his phone, but after hearing Yang Yi’s words, he exclaimed anxiously, "Throw it away? No way! There are too many secrets in my phone."
"The reason we keep getting caught could be that they’re tracking your phone signal. You choose!"
Boer agonized for a moment, perhaps for a second, then raised his phone and smashed it on the ground. After stomping on it several times, he picked it up and threw it down the sewer.
