Chapter 1385: Chapter 1390: Ruthless
Karl Stemonsen wanted to bargain, which was normal. After just one meeting and a few exchanges, he was expected to lead his brothers to join an entirely unfamiliar intelligence organization. How could that be possible?
Even if it was recruiting cheap cannon fodder, it wasn’t that straightforward. If he wasn’t in need of the other party, Karl would have started cursing. So, just bargaining was already a restrained outcome for Karl.
It’s just a pity that Karl chose the wrong target.
If it were Gong Yang, he might readily agree to Karl’s conditions, but Yang Yi wouldn’t, and he couldn’t.
The main thing is, Yang Yi doesn’t have a black heart, but he has black hands.
Yang Yi appeared relaxed. He smiled at Karl and said, “Did you notice anything from tonight’s drill? Yes, I think you did, and that is you guys are indeed very capable, but my people are even more capable. Don’t rush to deny it; you’re military and my people are from the intelligence system. In terms of what we do, my people are positioned in the battlefield that’s most suitable for them. You are not.”
Without blushing or a heartbeat, he made the Black Devil sound like his subordinates, and then Yang Yi continued to smile and said, “Do you admit this?”
What could Karl say? He had to admit because what Yang Yi said was the truth.
Karl took a deep breath, and then he said softly, “Yes, your people are indeed very good. I must admit.”
Yang Yi chuckled and said, “It’s good that you admitted it. So, considering that I already have enough high-end force, well, let me declare first, my words might be hurtful, but I don’t mean any harm, which is—since I already have the best and most suitable personnel, what use do you have for me then?”
Karl felt surprisingly speechless.
Yang Yi paused for a moment, noticing Karl had nothing to say, and then he continued, “Let me go on then. Alright, you think it’s unfair to you. I understand your feelings, but the problem is we’re different. We’re doing intelligence business, not a nation’s intelligence agency. We’re just a transnational intelligence organization for profit, um, do you think what we do can be known to others? Can we leak our secrets? Although you are not a combat member of the intelligence system, I think given your experience you should understand my point.”
Karl Stemonsen could understand.
It’s not that Karl Stemonsen was simple-minded, but Yang Yi presented a simple truth, a straightforward fact that even the simple Karl couldn’t refute.
Yang Yi spread his hands, looking helpless, and said, “You know what we’re going to do. Yes, we have to take down Big Ivan. Although we’re in the intelligence business, I have a feud with Big Ivan. I have ample reason to have to eliminate him. This matter and venture, once leaked, would face much more than petty revenge, so what reason do I have to let some strangers join my operation? Or, to let a few people who might definitely leave after three years join my operation, once leaked, many people would die. Once leaked, I would have to be prepared to face endless retaliation. Do you think I have any reason to let you join?”
Karl took a light breath, his expression very helpless, so he lowered his head, no longer making eye contact with Yang Yi.
Yang Yi smiled and said, “You must join us to take down Big Ivan because you don’t even know where Big Ivan is, and I don’t need your addition. Though indeed your addition could bring me a great deal of help, your help is not indispensable to me, but I am indispensable to you. You understand this fact, right?”
Yang Yi appeared somewhat aggressive, but what could Karl Stemonsen say when Yang Yi spoke the truth?
Spreading his hands, Yang Yi smiled and said, “There’s really nothing left to say. Uh, let me say a little more. You guys are truly strong, very strong, one of the strongest I’ve seen. If you join us, it’ll indeed be a great boost to our capability. Our main business is intelligence, but our business range spans very wide, and we do need strong force to join.”
Karl sighed lightly and said, “Sounds like a company, business, huh…”
“You can consider us a company. It’s okay.”
Karl gestured with his hand, saying, “I’m listening.”
Yang Yi smiled and said, “Join us, and you’ll be able to participate in the operation to eliminate Big Ivan. Yes, your joining will give me greater assurance and allow me to achieve my goals at a lower cost, yet it is still me giving you an opportunity, not you giving me one. If we can agree on this point, then I can talk to you about compensation matters.”
Karl took a deep breath and said, “Alright, I’m listening.”
“Annual salary system: an annual salary of one million US dollars per person. No matter what task you must undertake, and let me declare, our tasks are actually very few, so this price is quite high.”
“I want to hear other options.”
“Payment based on task difficulty graded. Starting at one hundred thousand US dollars, no cap. However, there are some issues, we may not have a task for you for a long time. Additionally, even if difficult tasks with potential casualties arise, you can’t refuse. Of course, for difficult tasks, the commission would be very high, and I’d offer a very fair price. I said it’s uncapped.”
Karl Stemonsen took a breath and said, “Sounds good, but would we end up being slaves for life? To take revenge, must we pay the price of freedom? Do you think that’s possible?”
Yang Yi said calmly, “First, you’re not slaves. I won’t limit your freedom, I’ll only provide assistance. You can have your own lives, even marry and have children, that’s all fine. Just when needed, you must ensure you can appear within a certain time to carry out the tasks given to you. I think that’s reasonable.”
“Continue.”
Yang Yi smiled and said, “There’s nothing more to say. My last reminder, no matter where you are, you are extremely valuable talents. I surely won’t deliberately send you to your death, so I’ll basically never task you with suicidal missions. After all, talent is always precious.”
Karl said in a low voice, “Aren’t you afraid I will agree with you now, but later regret it?”
Yang Yi shrugged and said, “Obviously, I’m not afraid.”
Karl Stemonsen thought for a moment, then he said softly, “I have a request; you can’t have us take tasks that harm the United States.”
“That condition I can agree to, it’s appropriate.”
Karl Stemonsen exhaled, he nodded and said, “I agree to your terms, we can talk about the details further. I don’t expect contractual clauses, but conditions agreed upon must be implemented. Also, I have a request I hope you’ll consent to, it’s just a small wish. Can we continue the drill with your people again? Just tonight.”
Yang Yi smiled, he extended his hand toward Karl, smiled, and said, “I’ll give you ample time to drill. Integration is necessary, so welcome to join us.”
