Chapter 1382: Chapter 1387: Unable to Accept
Yang Yi and his team randomly chose a conference room, then turned on the lights, fearing Cerberus wouldn’t be able to find them. Actually, this isn’t very realistic, but he wanted to see if Cerberus could break through the Black Devil’s defenses.
Cerberus had the advantage in some areas, like their familiarity with the terrain. Cerberus was definitely more familiar with this place.
So Cerberus chose the approach of attacking from top to bottom.
In movies, you often see special forces attacking enemies hidden in a building by parachuting or rappelling onto the rooftop, and then fighting from top to bottom. This method can indeed achieve maximum surprise because the defense of a building is always more secure at the ground level than at the top.
But for the Black Devil, they were guarding against this move.
Although it was unclear how Cerberus would reach the rooftop, the Black Devil certainly wouldn’t focus all their attention on the ground level.
“Under attack! Two men, both have been killed!”
Tartar’s voice immediately came through the walkie-talkie.
Even though they wanted to win, the Black Devil was truly seeking a fair fight with Cerberus, out of pride and self-respect. So, under Grevatov’s pre-set conditions, they would respond to Cerberus’s attack as if caught off guard, rather than being well-prepared, just waiting for Cerberus’s assault.
What this meant was that even if the Black Devil’s people were fully armed and on high alert to defend their protectee from any assassin, their rifles wouldn’t have rounds chambered, and their pistols would remain in holsters. They would only chamber a round and disengage the safety after they discovered an enemy.
Don’t underestimate this little difference; in a confrontation between masters, whether or not the safety is disengaged beforehand can be the difference between life and death.
So, after Tartar reported the attack via the walkie-talkie, he immediately said in an aggrieved yet helpless tone, “We have one casualty…”
A two-man attack surprisingly killed one of the Black Devil’s men, which was not only shocking for the Black Devil but completely unacceptable.
Several people left in the conference room to protect Yang Yi immediately drew their pistols. Just then, the glass in the conference room suddenly shattered. Along with the shattering glass, a hand grenade was thrown in, and gunfire immediately erupted.
Generally, attackers will enter through the window after the grenade explodes. They will wait until after the flashbang has taken effect before they initiate the attack, but this time it was different. Cerberus seemed to use the grenade more as a distraction tool rather than a real weapon for killing.
Along with the thrown grenade, two people suddenly descended from above the window, and people inside and outside the room started shooting simultaneously. Just a moment later, the grenade exploded, and both parties ceased shooting.
The helmet on Zhang Yong’s head was emitting red smoke, and the two people hanging outside the window had yellow smoke coming from their heads.
Yang Yi coughed lightly twice; what was thrown in were two hand grenades, not flashbangs, so the explosion was loud, but not particularly deafening.
The people hanging outside the window looked into the room silently, and the four enemies holding the pistols had nothing to say either.
Zhang Yong had died; if these had been real grenades, he would have died because he placed himself between Yang Yi and the grenades. So he died, but Zhang Yong was not shot.
The two hanging outside had no chance to fire their guns. They were continuously shot as soon as they appeared, and the people inside responded faster than they could comprehend. After their bodies were hit, they had no chance to fire.
The result was that one Black Devil was killed, Zhang Yong died, and all four Cerberus attackers perished, while Yang Yi was unharmed.
Standing around stuck like this was not an option; Yang Yi stood up and said to the people hanging outside the window, “It looks like you failed, but you did well, at least you successfully threw in two grenades.”
Yang Yi wanted to say something more.
Honestly, Yang Yi had already acknowledged Cerberus’s ability. Being able to throw in two grenades under Black Devil’s protection was, in a way, a success for Cerberus.
But no one seemed interested in Yang Yi’s comments, so no one responded to him.
At this point, Pavlovich suddenly said, “It seems we’re all not satisfied with this result, so how about we go again?”
“Okay!”
“One hour?”
“Okay!”
The person outside who was talking to Pavlovich began to ascend and quickly disappeared from the window with another person.
Zhang Yong let out a breath, removed the still-smoking helmet, and tossed it onto the conference table, saying, “Damn it!”
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, “It seems you won, but why do you all look so upset?”
Pavlovich, with a gloomy face, said, “They split into two groups of two; one group caused a distraction while the other launched the real attack. Hmm, we didn’t lose this time, but it wasn’t a success because they managed to throw in grenades. What if those weren’t grenades but a powerful bomb?”
Vasily’s expression looked even worse, as she whispered, “We left the lights on in the conference room, which was deliberately exposing our location, but… In short, I feel we embarrassed ourselves this time.”
While Yang Yi and the others were discussing whether they won or lost, outside the window, Major Karl Stemonsen was about to lose his temper.
Climbing back onto the rooftop in silence, four people sat quietly on the edge.
Karl silently removed his still-smoking helmet, took a deep breath, and said in a tightly controlled voice, “Failure, total failure! All four were killed without eliminating the target! We didn’t even have a chance to fire!”
“We only hit one…”
Karl took another deep breath and said quietly, “We only eliminated two bodyguards; yes, we split into two groups and used a suicide attack method, yet only took out two bodyguards!”
Karl felt a fire burning in his chest, his face flushed from the heat of shame and frustration.
“Since when did our Red Team become so… weak!”
“Sir, let’s go again, this time we’ll use…”
Karl gestured with his hand to stop them. After several deep breaths, he said deeply, “We didn’t make any mistakes this time; the failure only shows that the enemy is too strong. It’s not a tactical problem; it’s our capability issue, or rather, we have deteriorated.”
All remained silent. Karl shook his head and then said deeply, “Ladies and gentlemen, for a long time, we have been the strongest. But pride has made us complacent, so show your skills, change your tactics, change positions, this time we must eliminate the target!”
