Chapter 134: Chapter 133 Not Alone

Yang Yi’s movements indeed quickened, and then it took him less than ten minutes to completely clean the chimney. As he was just stepping out, he saw his familiar Clint following an old man, who was slowly walking towards him.

The old man was walking very slowly because, having entered the chimney, he could no longer see anything. However, on the walk from the cell to the chimney, he was still able to look into the distance.

Therefore, the old man kept looking around, and Clint, following behind him, did not urge him to hurry.

The old man appeared to be in his seventies, slightly overweight but by no means fat, with an extremely pale face. He had lost his hair on top, leaving just a rim of hair around the head, creating what is referred to as a "monk’s balding pattern," which looked somewhat comical.

Right before entering the chimney, the old man finally averted his gaze from the distance and, looking at Yang Yi, who was standing to one side with his cleaning cart, said, "New here?"

Yang Yi looked uncertainly at Clint because, according to the rules, he was absolutely not allowed to talk to any prisoner. In fact, even the guards weren’t supposed to talk to the old man, but this rule seemed not to be strictly enforced.

Clint made a gesture, and then he smiled, "He’s an exception."

Yang Yi immediately said to the old man, "Yes, I’m new here."

"Good for newcomers, newcomers have a sense of novelty. What crime did you commit to get in here?"

In prison, it seemed that everyone’s first question was to ask others what crime they had committed.

"Drunk driving and assault with intent."

The old man looked enlightened and said, "That’s not serious, not serious at all."

At this point Clint said from behind, "Okay, no more chatting, get in."

Looking reluctant, the old man walked into the chimney. Then, just as he was about to enter the chimney, he suddenly asked Yang Yi, "Do you know a woman named Kate?"

Yang Yi felt as if his world had capsized, and it was the kind of tumult that rolls around dozens of times on the ground.

The old man seemed very eager for Yang Yi’s answer, then he said in a low voice, "Kate, a Brit, very beautiful, but she’s a spy, she..."

Stay calm! He must stay calm!

Yang Yi desperately tried to stay calm in his heart, but it was impossible to stay calm when an old man locked in prison suddenly began talking about Kate.

Yang Yi could no longer maintain his calm, nor could he keep a composed look in his eyes as he turned to gaze at the old man.

His fingers gripping the cart whitened from the force he was exerting, as he stared blankly at the old man, pondering how to respond.

Seeing the look on Yang Yi’s face, the old man suddenly started to breathe rapidly, then, raising his handcuffed hands, he tried to grab Yang Yi, crying out, "You know her! You do know her, right? Tell me where she is! I’m Brian, I’m Brian!"

The guard watching the chimney pushed the old man impatiently, but he refused to go in, so Clint and the guard immediately grabbed the old man’s arms and shoved him inside, quickly shutting the door from the outside.

Inside, the old man banged madly against the door, shouting, "Let him tell me, where is Kate! Where is Kate!"

With a troubled face, the guard watching the chimney said, "Fuck, he’s gone mad again!"

Clint pointed at the locked cell door and said to Yang Yi, "This guy’s crazy, he asks everyone about some Kate, damn it, it’s been a long time since he’s gone mad, what’s gotten into him today!"

The old man was still desperately smashing against the door inside. The guard in charge of the chimney looked troubled and said, "What should we do? Take him back to his cell?"

"Should we report it? If we do, he won’t get a chance to come out for a long time, having to stay in his cell. If that happens, he’ll go mad. We’d have to clean up his cell. Oh, shit! What’s wrong with him?"

Clint and another guard both looked toward Yang Yi. Yang Yi raised his hands, his face the picture of innocence, "I didn’t say anything, nothing at all!"

Clint waved his hand helplessly and said, "I’ve said before that the old man’s gone mad long ago. He asks everyone if they know Kate, and you didn’t answer his question. Maybe that’s why he’s lost it, considering it’s been so very long since a new face came here."

Yang Yi’s heart was pounding; he even began to wonder if this mad old man was Kate’s real father. But that wasn’t right, the timing was off. Yet, why would a long-time prisoner ask about Kate, especially knowing that Kate was a spy?

Just then, Clint said with a troubled face, "I really don’t want to deal with a madman. If we don’t appease him, he’ll go crazy every day."

"Yeah, what should we do?"

Clint looked toward Yang Yi, then said with a look of difficulty, "Buddy, could you talk to him again, just tell him you don’t know any Kate, and that’ll be it."

From behind the wall, hearing the old man’s furious roars, Yang Yi felt his hair stand on end. So, he didn’t immediately reply to Clint. That’s when the other guard urged, "We’re right here, you won’t be in danger!"

Yang Yi took a deep breath, nodded, and said, "Alright, I’ll talk to him."

The guard in charge of the chimney yelled, "Shut up, Brian! We’re letting you out now, but if you keep screaming, I’ll throw you back in your cell. Shut up!"

The shouting stopped immediately, and Clint laughed, "That really works."

The guard muttered a curse under his breath, then opened the cell door.

Brian immediately jumped out from the chimney; since his handcuffs and shackles were connected, it was more convenient to leap out than to take small steps.

Brian’s eyes were red. As soon as he came out, he raised his hands toward Yang Yi, the chains rattling sharply. Then Brian lowered his hands and whispered to Yang Yi, "Tell me! I know you know! Tell me quick!"

Yang Yi swallowed and whispered back, "I know a girl named Kate."

Brian’s eyes lit up, but Clint looked at Yang Yi somewhat startled.

"Where is she, is she alright now? No, did you just say ’a girl’?"

Yang Yi whispered, "She’s in London now, doing quite well. Yes, she’s still a girl."

Brian suddenly froze, then he asked with a look of astonishment, "London? A girl?"

Clint, anxious, gestured with his hands, and Yang Yi softly said, "Sir, are we talking about the same person? I know a girl named Kate, but I think the Kate you know may not be the same one, because there are many people named Kate in the United Kingdom."

Brian immediately stopped raging; his complexion turned even paler, then he said with a trembling voice, "How old is she?"

"In her twenties, I’m not quite sure exactly how old she is."

Brian was stunned; it took him a long while to finally say in a low voice, "When I knew Kate, she was just a girl, but she’s not a girl anymore. I’ve aged, she must have aged too. We’re not talking about the same person, not the same..."
