Chapter 1322 - 1327 Fire
Chapter 1322: Chapter 1327 Fire
Yang Yi was truly impressed by the patience of the Black Devil team to the point of utter admiration.
Logically speaking, Gong Yang had a much closer relationship with the Black Devil than Yang Yi, yet at such a tense moment, not a single member of the Black Devil team showed any sign of anxiety.
Even if their minds were in turmoil, they showed no trace of it on the surface. Achieving such composure was rare worldwide.
Yang Yi also began to calm himself, at least appearing calm on the surface.
"We are about to enter the airspace over Mosul!"
Reggie suddenly said. At this point, the urban area of Mosul was already visible from the airplane window.
Communication had long been disrupted. Yang Yi looked around and then shouted, "Where are our allies?"
This was a joint operation, a joint rescue mission that demanded extreme coordination, especially without communication.
How difficult is an operation with such tight coordination?
Let’s put it this way, any military unit in the world—be it field troops, special forces, or SWAT teams—achieving a simultaneous attack with perfect timing and precision without any communication marks them as one of the elite forces.
But what kind of operation was Yang Yi and his team undertaking?
First was unfamiliarity with each other. The teams participating in the rescue were unfamiliar with one another, having never done joint drills or even a single exercise together.
Second was communication disruption. Even if someone faced a sudden unexpected situation, they could not inform others. They could only proceed with the rescue mission by agreeing on a time and place without any room for error.
The third challenge was that this was a rescue mission.
Everyone knew that rescue missions were the most challenging type of special operations. If hostages died, it meant complete failure. While the enemies controlling the hostages might not match the Black Devil’s strength, they could still kill the hostages.
Why was the Black Devil’s battle strategy to resolve the fight within two minutes?
Because if they dragged it out, it would allow the adversaries a chance to launch a destructive attack on Satan’s unit, like artillery or explosives, leaving no viable countermeasures.
So, Yang Yi wanted to see their allies but scanned around and detected no other aircraft.
"I don’t see any sign of our allies."
Yang Yi spoke through the intercom inside the plane. Though it was a small electromagnetic environment inside the plane, there were still some disturbances.
How strong was the electronic interference that ISIS was using?
It was bad enough that while the acoustic, optical, and electrical reconnaissance devices on their plane still operated normally, their radar was disrupted—both active and passive radars—as was their communication long ago.
Grevatov’s voice broke over the headset, crackling and unclear. Yang Yi shouted, "What did you say?"
Grevatov moved next to Yang Yi, observing in the cockpit before loudly stating, "Head directly to Rajawade Grand Mosque for bombing. Trust our allies; they will manage."
Yang Yi was not as confident as Grevatov. Although he knew well the prowess of Angel and Aurora, they had never worked together.
The plane soared over the city of Mosul.
Under normal circumstances, radar detection, especially if radar-guided missiles locked on, would trigger a warning alarm. Still, now no alarm would sound even if radar lock occurred since all radar frequencies were disrupted.
Reggie seemed tense, wiping his sweaty palms. Then he shouted, "Watch out for any anti-aircraft fire, and inform me promptly if someone launches missiles at us!"
Yang Yi and Grevatov each took a side along with those in the weapons bay, stationed at each window, visually monitoring for any attacks on the aircraft.
The AC-130 packed mighty firepower, but its operational use was highly demanding, requiring absolute air superiority because it was lumbering and easy prey for fighters once attacked.
Even against portable anti-aircraft missiles, it remained dangerous since the AC-130’s maneuverability was limited, making dodging missiles nearly impossible.
Fortunately, ISIS had no fighter jets, though they did have many portable anti-aircraft missiles.
If assailed by anti-aircraft missiles, they could only rely on the infrared countermeasure flares to evade. If too many missiles were fired, there was not much they could do.
So, understandably, there was tension, for anyone aboard a plane that might get shot down would be nervous.
Regardless of Yang Yi’s brilliance or the Black Devil’s extraordinary skill, if hit by missiles on the plane, the only outcome was a crash.
"Missiles! Two on the right!"
Grevatov suddenly shouted. Reggie unhesitatingly yelled, "Release the flares!"
The swishing sound wasn’t audible inside the plane, but Yang Yi watched as red flares quickly flew out from both sides of the plane.
They looked magnificent, with a red glow trailing white smoke, drawing an arc below the aircraft, then vanishing promptly behind it.
The two missiles struck the flares one after the other.
Infrared-guided missiles were unaffected by radar jamming but were influenced by flares.
"Release the flares! Slowly, follow my command, release! Release, release, release!"
The flares were limited in number, so firing them all at once left the plane defenseless, but at Yang Yi’s command, Reggie released a few at a time.
Just then, Reggie shouted, "There, right ahead, I see it!"
The Rajawade Grand Mosque.
At that moment, Yang Yi spotted a helicopter, followed by a second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
A total of eight helicopters appeared almost simultaneously from three directions, converging at one spot.
"Transport plane!"
At that moment, Grevatov shouted, "Open fire! Open fire!"
They hadn’t reached the airspace right above the Rajawade Grand Mosque but were off to the side and above, at the optimal firing position.
Yang Yi glanced downward, magnified the image on the TV reconnaissance equipment screen repeatedly, and then urgently said, "There it is, fire now!"
