Chapter 1318: Chapter 1323: One Condition
The Asad military base is certainly heavily guarded. Trying to drive away a plane from there, especially an AC-130 gunship, is obviously not feasible.
Planes and cars are different. Stealing a car means you can basically drive away immediately because cars definitely have gas.
But planes are different; their fuel tanks aren’t always filled. Most crucially, the AC-130 is nicknamed the gunship. Why is it called a gunship? Because this type of aircraft was originally a transport plane, but was ingeniously modified by the United States into an aerial fire support plane that can unleash gunfire onto the ground in scenarios of absolute air superiority.
The specific model of gunship stationed at the Asad air base is the AC-130U. The AC-130U is armed not only with machine guns but with a 105mm cannon!
A 105mm cannon has immense power, and firing from the air is fundamentally different from firing from the ground. For instance, when fired from the ground, it is an indirect fire weapon, so hitting the target directly is incredibly difficult. Lethality primarily comes from the blast shockwave and fragmentation.
But placing a cannon on a plane changes everything. First, the cannon can fire with direct line-of-sight, making a significant difference in target accuracy without dramatically increasing power.
The AC-130U also has a Bofors 40mm rapid-fire cannon, powerful enough to penetrate the top armor of a main battle tank. When loaded with high-explosive shells, it can devastate personnel over an area the size of half a basketball court.
Additionally, it is equipped with a GAU-12 25mm machine gun.
The three cannons are not the key; the advanced electronic equipment on the AC-130U is remarkable.
The power of the cannons is similar, so why is it formidable on the AC-130? That’s because the plane is equipped with power enhancers.
Firstly, the AC-130 is equipped with low-light night vision, thermal imaging display, laser range-finding systems, target indication systems, active radar, and passive radar. These electronic observation and aiming devices are the most valuable components of the AC-130, enabling its firepower to be unleashed to the fullest.
The observation and aiming equipment used on planes is entirely different from that used in individual combat. Ground targets that are aimed at by this plane have little chance of escape.
For Yang Yi and his team, to rescue Satan, there is no weapon more suitable than the AC-130.
Flying an AC-130 gunship over Mosul, unleashing fury on the forces surrounding Satan – given IS’s anti-air capabilities, the success rate would be at least eighty percent.
Thus if they take the AC-130 to Mosul, it’s not just reconnaissance; it’s armed reconnaissance, power reconnaissance. As long as Satan’s general location is known, the rescue can be assured.
But a problem arises: the AC-130 is indeed suitable, but such an aircraft demands extensive logistics.
The plane’s weapons usually lack ammunition, and even if the plane has fuel, what’s the use if Yang Yi and his team fly an ammunition-less plane?
So they need not only a plane but one fully fueled and armed. Only then does the aircraft become meaningful. However, refueling and rearming requires the ground support staff from the Asad military base.
Even if Yang Yi and his team know what to do, it’s impractical to drive an ammo truck and a fuel truck to refuel and rearm an AC-130.
The Black Devil team stared at Yang Yi. Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "I think I can get an AC-130. That’s good news. The better news is that we have a professional AC-130 pilot, and I can be the co-pilot."
Grevatov raised his hand and said softly, "I can fly it, but if there’s a professional, we should let the professional pilot."
"I can also fly a C-130."
"I can as well."
"We all can..."
Yang Yi was speechless. He cleared his throat and said, "Alright, I’ll take back that good news."
"No need, after all, we haven’t flown for decades. Having a professional pilot still feels more reliable. Yes, it’s still good news."
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "To fly a gunship, a weapons operator is needed. You presumably have no problem with that?"
"No problem."
Grevatov spoke on behalf of the Black Devil. After speaking, he felt Yang Yi might be skeptical, so he emphasized, "Of course, no problem at all."
Yang Yi shrugged and said, "Alright, then the only remaining issue is how to get the gunship."
Grevatov became serious, and Yang Yi said grimly, "I can contact Aaron, and ask him for a plane. I don’t think it’s a big issue, but you all..."
Yang Yi looked around at those present and slowly said, "You know what me doing this entails, right?"
Grevatov whispered, "What does it entail? Exposure?"
Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "Yes, this would largely expose me. Aaron would surely suspect why I need to fly a gunship to Mosul to rescue someone unrelated to me. What would I get in return, everyone?"
Grevatov pondered, and Yang Yi continued solemnly, "If you think the gunship is dispensable, we can end this topic now. If you think it’s necessary, then you’d better agree to my terms because if I’m exposed, much of my sacrifice and effort will be wasted."
Grevatov spoke softly, "Alright, state your terms."
Yang Yi extended a finger, speaking gravely, "Just one condition, you cooperate with me to stage a play."
"What kind of play?"
Yang Yi whispered, "It’s simple; the Black Devil has joined the Organization of Water. Simply put, the Black Devil is part of the Organization of Water. When I need the Black Devil to prove this, you must cooperate fully."
Grevatov spoke softly, "Let’s make it clear, just once."
"Of course, just once. I don’t hope the Black Devil truly becomes part of the Organization. Even if you wanted to, I wouldn’t dare to take you."
Grevatov laughed, then said solemnly, "Alright, this condition is reasonable, I agree."
Yang Yi exhaled softly and said, "Good, then we should prepare now. I’ll call Aaron right away."
In front of the Black Devil, Yang Yi took out his phone and dialed Aaron, now requesting an AC-130 gunship.
"Sir, we are returning because I was attacked. Now, I need an AC-130 gunship."
"I know, Jason told me, but why do you need a gunship?"
Aaron was clearly surprised because Yang Yi wasn’t asking for a transport plane or a fighter jet, but a gunship.
