Chapter 1302: Chapter 1307 Mutual Concealment
Anton couldn’t rescue Satan, but he could make Satan’s situation a bit better.
The strong demand for Baghdadi to be kept alive, backed by Azar’s firm stance, was certainly useful because now Anton represented the CIA, and Azar the Shah Intelligence Bureau. The joint pressure from representatives of these two financial backers was something ISIS couldn’t ignore.
No one is foolish. ISIS currently has strong momentum, but how could such a detested organization survive this long without backing?
Even if someone was eager to eliminate Baghdadi to take power themselves, they’d have to consider whether they’d be taken out right after assuming power if they offended the financiers.
Therefore, as long as Baghdadi is alive, Satan can use him as a human shield.
Time passed slowly, and the sky gradually darkened.
Viper called Anton and Azar over. They were about to initiate the rescue operation, and this time, Baghdadi or rather Viper personally was commanding the elite troops.
Viper’s outfit hadn’t changed, but there were now dozens of people around him.
Wearing night vision goggles, bulletproof vests, face masks—armed to the teeth.
At a glance, it was clear these were definitely not ISIS troops. The American style was too strong, or rather, too modern. Now, ISIS had finally brought out its last reserves.
Anton even doubted whether these people were directly sent by the United States, because, from their weapons and equipment, their American background was quite obvious.
Glancing at Anton, Viper took a deep breath and said softly, "Good luck, everyone. Now, proceed according to plan and move into the attack starting positions. Let’s go!"
Having said that, Viper nodded at Anton and Azar, saying, "Please follow me."
Viper was intentionally showcasing his strength. Definitely, he had great confidence in his team. Absolutely.
Anton was starting to feel concerned for Satan. He didn’t know or wasn’t familiar with the team he saw in front of him, but his professional judgment and keen eye could tell this team was definitely strong.
How could ISIS possibly have such a large elite force?
Due to electronic interference, all radio communication was completely cut off.
In fact, electronic interference isn’t something that discriminates between friend and foe. If once started, both their own and enemy radar and radio facilities became useless, for Americans, it would be better not to have it. But the issue is, the one using electronic interference now is ISIS, which neither has the capability nor the need to carry out selective interference that wouldn’t affect themselves. Hence, they shut everything down completely.
The attack launch position was on the side of the mosque. After a team of seventy to eighty people got into position, Viper had Anton and Azar stay ten meters away from him, neither affecting his command nor preventing Anton and Azar from seeing anything.
Viper said something in a low voice. Soon, twelve people silently stepped out from the team. They turned on their night vision goggles, loaded their weapons, and began stealthily approaching the main door of the mosque hall.
Azar whispered, "What are they doing? It looks like only these few people are moving in? And attacking from the main door of the mosque hall?"
"Yes."
Azar asked, puzzled, "Why? Are they crazy? The main door can’t be breached!"
Anton whispered, "This is a probing attack, and he has no choice but to do this for a reason. First, ISIS has carried out numerous suicide attacks already. So how would the people inside know it’s different this time? Maybe these twelve could get through. In this kind of indoor assault, having more people doesn’t help. If the first wave is stopped, subsequent attacks mean nothing and would only lead to more casualties."
Azar muttered under his breath, "Then wouldn’t these guys be in grave danger?"
Anton said indifferently, "They’re a probing attack. These guys, if there’s no mishap, won’t make it back. Why send twelve? Because twelve can be divided into four three-man combat teams. Given the scope of this building, a twelve-man team is already the limit. More won’t help, less won’t be enough. No support, no retreat. If they succeed, they’ll rescue Baghdadi right away. If they fail, they’ll all die inside..."
Azar took a deep breath and whispered, "They’re going with a death wish? Wow, Iron Maiden sure is... well, they’re impressive."
Anton turned his head to look at Azar and asked, "What did you just say?"
Azar scratched his head awkwardly and whispered, "I didn’t say anything..."
"Yes, you did, buddy. There are some things you shouldn’t hide from me now. We’re on the same boat!"
Azar lowered his voice even more and said, "Don’t talk about it now, inconvenient. I’ll tell you everything slowly when we get back."
Anton knew about Iron Maiden, even without Azar explaining, Anton knew all about Iron Maiden.
So Anton really started getting worried.
Viper flashed his flashlight for a moment, and then almost instantly, the whoosh of rocket launchers was heard.
"Type 63 107 mm rocket!"
This time it was Azar who said it. He could recognize the sound of the rocket launcher, which is why he was eager to mention it.
The attack had begun, starting with artillery preparation, targeting the observers on the minaret,
Anton was focused on the accuracy. The 107 mm rocket launcher was very common in the Middle East. As one of the three major guerrilla weapons, these rocket launchers could be found everywhere, but using it skillfully, or rather hitting accurately, was difficult.
But this time, the rockets were terrifyingly accurate. Just the second rocket hit one of the minarets.
Watching the sparks in the night sky, Anton’s heart tightened further.
Satan is really in trouble, just from the users of the rocket, it was clear their attackers were indeed strong.
Experts know their work, and Iron Maiden is indeed formidable.
"They’re going to attack the mosque hall."
In the darkness, nothing could be seen, and Anton had already lost sight of those launching the attack. Yet, his judgment was spot on. Just as he finished speaking, those who had just moved to the main gate of the mosque hall launched their attack.
They were very close; the gunfire was quite distinct.
Inside the mosque hall, there were clear gunshots, brief but intense. Very quickly, in less than a minute, the gunfire stopped.
Azar stared with his mouth wide open at the dark mosque, unable to look away despite seeing nothing.
However, Anton was checking his watch. Hearing the gunfire stop and not resuming, he murmured, "It’s over. Twelve down. Probing attack totally failed."
Azar turned his head and asked, "Why wasn’t it a win?"
"It only took thirty-three seconds. For the rescuers, it’s impossible so quickly, and you would still hear gunfire. But there’s none, which means they’re all gone, wiped out."
Azar opened his mouth and whispered, "Who on earth are those inside!"
