Chapter 130: Chapter 129 Car Enthusiasts
Upon hearing Rubin’s question, Yang Yi almost didn’t hesitate because what he was talking about was indeed what he wanted to do most.
"The first thing, huh? It should be to find a car to drive out and have a blast. I love cars, super love them."
The guard named Clint suddenly perked up and said, "Really? I also love cars. Do you like watching NASCAR?"
NASCAR is the most popular racing sport in the United States. Yang Yi suddenly looked at Clint and, while sizing him up without leaving traces, similarly said with an excited face, "Of course I like it. Why even ask, boss? I’m a loyal fan of the Joe Gibbs Racing team!"
Clint suddenly stood up and then said with immense surprise, "The Joe Gibbs Racing team?"
"Yes, the Joe Gibbs Racing team’s car number 20, um, I haven’t watched for two years, but my favorite is still the number 20 car, the driver is Matt Kenseth. Do you know this driver?"
Clint laughed out loud, and Rubin also laughed out loud to the side saying, "You’re asking him if he knows? Oh, buddy, he’s a die-hard fan of the Joe Gibbs Racing team, what’s your favorite car number?"
Clint spread his hands and made a silly face towards Yang Yi, laughing, "Number 20!"
Yang Yi stood up excitedly and shouted, "What? Wow, wow, tell me, how has it been doing these past two years? Damn, sorry, I got a little too excited."
Clint cocked his head to the side, then stretched out his hand toward Yang Yi, who didn’t hesitate and shook Clint’s hand firmly.
Yang Yi liked F1 and watching rally races, but he had absolutely no interest in the circular races Americans were so enthusiastic about, honestly, because he grew up in the United Kingdom and his passion for racing was developed there, so he could only look down on the American’s favorite racing style.
What was so great about races that involved driving around an oval track and then crashing into each other?
But looking down on it didn’t prevent Yang Yi from understanding the sport.
Most importantly, scorn didn’t mean that Yang Yi didn’t understand these races. After all, he could remember them. So he just guessed the man’s favorite racing team after seeing the keychain hanging on Clint’s belt.
And Yang Yi guessed correctly.
So, Yang Yi and Clint chatted eagerly. After both were enthusiastically chatting for over twenty minutes, Yang Yi inadvertently glanced at the clock on the wall and suddenly said, "Damn, I forgot the time, I have to go work."
Clint, looking as if he still had much to say, glanced at his watch and then said with great reluctance, "Then you better hurry, come back as soon as you finish cleaning, and don’t bother about the places that don’t need to be cleaned up."
Yang Yi immediately started to mop the floor, but Clint took the walkie-talkie from the table and shouted, "Bring one more lunch, we have someone here with a bigger appetite."
After just saying a word through the walkie-talkie, Clint turned to Yang Yi and laughed, "Have lunch here, it’s just the two of us, a little perk, haha."
Yang Yi pointed at Clint with his finger; this time, he didn’t use polite language. He didn’t say anything at all, just made a ’you know what I mean’ gesture to Clint, then continued to quickly mop the floor.
After cleaning the lounge, Yang Yi said to Rubin and Clint in high spirits, "I will be back very soon, very soon."
After Yang Yi left and closed the door from the outside, Clint took a long breath and then said to Rubin with a smile, "He’s a very good and interesting guy, right?"
Rubin laughed heartily and said, "He’s a Joe Gibbs Racing fan, so he must be a good guy, haha."
Yang Yi didn’t know about the conversation inside the lounge, but he knew he had had a very good start. However, doing his own job well was the most important thing.
Yang Yi continued to clean and tidy up the entire prison block, including the armed guard posts.
In front of a post that was shielded with barbed wire on three sides and faced a special inmate’s side, Yang Yi said to the guard inside, "Sir, do you need it cleaned up?"
The prison guard glanced at Yang Yi, opened the door from inside, and said, "Need you to sweep up the cigarette butts."
The guard post wasn’t very big but not too small either, roomy enough for two people. Yang Yi stood outside the post with a troubled look on his face and said, "But shouldn’t you come out before I can go in?"
The prison guard said impatiently, "Alright, I’m out now, so hurry up."
Yang Yi remembered that prison guards were not allowed to smoke on duty, but looking at the ground inside the post covered in cigarette butts, he knew that rule didn’t seem to be strictly followed.
"It hasn’t been cleaned for two days, I was actually worried about running into the police. The jerks before you just smoked but didn’t bother to clean up the butts. What’s your name?"
"Benjamin, sir."
"What are you in for? How long is your sentence?"
"Driving under the influence and intentional assault, a five-year sentence, I’ve got three more years to go."
The guard laughed, "Then you’re almost there, three years will pass by quickly."
Yang Yi had finished cleaning the guard post and stepped out. Standing three meters away from the guard, he said, "I’ve finished cleaning, sir."
The prison guard shrugged and stepped back into the post, then beckoned to Yang Yi, "Don’t be so scared, come in, keep me company for a little chat."
Yang Yi said in surprise, "Ah, but that’s against the rules, sir."
"It’s fine, you’re still here. Want to smoke? Just leave the cart over there, and pretend you’re still cleaning. Nobody cares."
The guard tossed a cigarette to Yang Yi and said with a wink, "The cameras here were installed five or six years ago, top tech at the time. Now, several are broken and nobody bothers fixing them, and our camera here just happens to be one of the broken ones. Otherwise, why do you think we’d dare to smoke here?"
Yang Yi hesitated for a moment but stepped forward to accept the cigarette, whispering, "Thank you."
Not only did the guard give Yang Yi a cigarette but also lit it for him. With a mysterious face, the guard said, "You’re welcome. Do you know what kind of criminals are held here?"
"I don’t know, but I’ve heard they’re all particularly important inmates."
The guard, looking secretive, pointed to a cell and whispered, "Look over there. Do you know who’s being held there? It’s got a cannibal! He eats people!"
Yang Yi acted startled, "A cannibal?"
"Yes, he killed and ate seven people, buddy!"
As Yang Yi looked both fearful and curious towards the cell the guard pointed out, the guard smiled smugly. He then pointed to another cell and said, "Do you know who’s in that one?"
"Who? Another psycho?"
"No, no, the person in there is different, a spy! Just a double agent, our traitor."
Yang Yi moved a bit closer to the guard, full of curiosity, "So, all the inmates here are big shots, right?"
The guard nodded heavily and said in a low voice, "You’ve only got a five-year term. Do you know the longest sentence here? Five hundred years! Buddy, you’ve only hurt someone, but the people in here, they really eat people!"
