Chapter 1281: Chapter 1286 Consecutive Events

When they set out, there were over a hundred people and dozens of vehicles, but when they returned, there were only half as many. However, Yang Yi felt no guilt at all.

Back in the room they had just left, the first thing Yang Yi did upon returning was to call Aaron.

"Sir, we can’t leave! We were driven back!"

This time it was a phone call, not a video call, but Aaron’s nervousness was still evident.

"What’s going on? What happened? What’s the situation over there?"

"We left Mosul and encountered an airstrike!"

"An airstrike?"

"Yes, a plane attacked our convoy. Fortunately, I switched vehicles, so I’m fine now. But the team escorting us suffered heavy casualties, and then I decided to return to Mosul immediately. On the way back, we encountered an ambush. We broke through the ambush and forced our way back to Mosul."

After finishing, Yang Yi let out a long sigh, and then he whispered, "My guess is someone tried to take me out with an airstrike, and the ones who ambushed us intended to sift through the wreckage for something after I was dead. That’s my speculation."

Aaron was silent for a long time before he said solemnly, "Don’t leave yet. I’ll have someone come to support you and get you out!"

"Yes, sir."

"I’m giving you unlimited firepower authorization. No matter what you encounter, make sure you protect yourself and that thing. I will send someone to support you as soon as possible. If there are any changes, I’ll notify you. Keep in touch."

"Sir, I will soon meet with the target. I want to know, is there still time for me to proceed with the mission as planned?"

"You decide for yourself. Ensure safety first and foremost, understand?"

"Understood, sir."

Yang Yi hung up the phone and then calmly said, "Continue with our mission."

Anton nodded and whispered, "I have already made contact with Tartar, and he will send out the message."

Yang Yi sat down, pondered for a moment, and then suddenly smiled, whispering, "This place is going to get very lively."

"We still don’t know if Satan will come or not, or if they can come."

Yang Yi smiled and said, "Yes, we still don’t know if they will come, but we certainly have to wait here for the next two days. I don’t know how Aaron plans to support me, but I suspect he might just send someone to take the item away. I’m not important; the item is what’s important."

After picking up and shaking the cross a bit, then casually tossing it back onto the bed, Yang Yi pondered for a moment and said, "I’ve finally got this chance, so I can’t just hand it over to the Grey-cloaked People."

Brian made a slicing gesture, whispering, "If someone comes to take it, take them out. This thing can only be taken away by you, not handed over to someone else."

Yang Yi shook his head, looking helpless as he said, "The biggest problem now is that there’s no way to contact the Cleaner. If possible, I would let the Cleaner handle all our troubles for us."

Anton whispered, "I think they’ve already got you under surveillance, so don’t worry; the Cleaner will take care of it."

Yang Yi pondered for a moment, then whispered, "Tell Azar that it’s still me who will meet with Baghdadi, and he needs to attend as well. Then let’s just wait and see if Satan dares to come!"

Anton frowned for a long time before whispering, "Given the situation here, I think if Satan comes, they won’t be able to leave."

Yang Yi nodded and said, "Yes, I don’t know what Satan plans to do, but with those guys from the Satan Mercenary Group, even if they come, they won’t need to leave. So I wonder if Gong Yang has the courage and determination to leave here and take on Baghdadi. Even with the intelligence given, it’s not a targeted elimination, but more like a suicide attack."

Anton’s frown deepened, and he whispered, "If Gong Yang is coming, then the Black Devil will also come. I’m very worried, and I don’t want the Black Devil to be buried here."

Yang Yi whispered, "Do you regret giving them the intelligence?"

Anton hesitated for a moment, then still sighed softly and said, "No, I’m responsible for gathering intelligence. The decision on what to do with it after acquiring the intelligence is not mine. If they decide they need to come here to take out Baghdadi, then they must think it’s feasible. If they don’t come, I won’t be surprised either."

Brian shrugged and said, "Satan, alright, I admit Gong Yang is very strong, but no matter how strong he is, he’s still just one person, guys. I think any sane person would not choose to come to Mosul to take out Baghdadi. That isn’t an attack; it’s suicide. So, we actually don’t need to think too much about this, let’s focus on our own issues."

Yang Yi looked at his watch and said, "Yes, let’s focus on ourselves. Who knows when we might encounter an attack. Everyone, be careful, protect yourselves. As for me, you know I’ll be fine, so don’t worry about me. Since we’re staying, let’s take a proper rest, I’m quite tired."

To be honest, Yang Yi was really exhausted. He had traveled a long distance to get here, and after arriving in Mosul, he hadn’t had any rest. Plus, he had just been scared by the airstrike, so he really needed a good sleep.

He slept from the afternoon until dusk, and when it was time for dinner, Azar personally invited Yang Yi for dinner, and Yang Yi readily accepted.

Anton wanted to follow Yang Yi, but Yang Yi waved his hand and said, "No need to follow me. We have some things to discuss."

Azar also smiled and said, "Yes, it’s very safe here, no need to worry."

Of course, the patron must be treated well, so Yang Yi and Azar were escorted to a well-decorated room.

A sumptuous meal was already laid out on the low table covered with a carpet. Azar made a gesture of invitation and smiled, "Please, though it’s a bit crude, it’s the best hospitality one can have here."

Yang Yi sat in front of the dining table, half-reclining with a fatigued face, and said, "Man, I really need a good meal because I’m both tired and hungry. I’m starving to death..."

At this moment, a soldier holding a gun who was guarding the entrance suddenly said, "Stop! Who are you? I’ve never seen you before, don’t move!"

Both Yang Yi and Azar turned their heads, and then they saw a bearded man holding a tray with fruit in it, looking full of fear as he backed up a couple of steps with a gun pointed at him at the door.

Azar looked a bit puzzled and was about to speak, but the bearded man holding the tray suddenly threw it away, his face twisting in agony.

"Not good!"

Yang Yi shouted loudly, leaping to the side, and immediately after, a loud boom sounded. The violent explosion instantly deprived everyone of their hearing.

Yang Yi shook his head and slowly climbed up from the ground, waving his hand, but in the dusty room, doing so was utterly pointless.

Looking at the fragments of flesh and blood on the ground, Yang Yi sighed and then yelled at the motionless Azar lying on the ground, "Hey, buddy, are you okay?"

Azar couldn’t hear anything. When Yang Yi came to his side and helped him up, the shocked Azar, with a bewildered look on his face, said, "What exactly did you buy?!"
