Chapter 1269: Chapter 1274: This Really Won’t Do

Once in the car, Yang Yi and Anton sat in the backseat. They looked at each other, both struggling to hold back their laughter, until they couldn’t anymore and burst out laughing together.

Reggie glanced back, looking puzzled, and said, "What’s so funny?"

"You wouldn’t understand."

After Anton spoke, Yang Yi quickly added, "You will never understand."

Then the two of them laughed out loud again.

Yang Yi wiped away the tears from laughing and said, "But it’s not entirely good news. Having such a companion increases our danger level; I really hope Wahid doesn’t come with us to meet Baghdadi."

Anton shook his head and said, "It seems unavoidable. I think it’s a good thing, because for someone like him to become a deputy director, he must find a way to demonstrate his abilities and status."

Yang Yi sighed, picked up his phone, and quickly asked, "Did you find out anything?"

"Wahid, Prince Shah, is not just a nominal prince; he’s a real prince. Uh, his brother is the heir to the throne and also the director of Shah’s intelligence agency. To ensure he can succeed smoothly, his brother gave him the position of deputy director of the Shah intelligence agency. Do you understand now?"

Yang Yi smiled and said, "Understood."

"Just a reminder, it seems Wahid is getting involved in a power struggle. He’s supporting his brother."

"Understood. Does it affect the mission?"

"Not too much, but... it’s still too early for a definitive judgment. If you can maintain a good personal relationship with him, it shouldn’t hurt. Our assessment is that the chances of his brother being successful are quite high."

"Got it. Bye."

After hanging up, Yang Yi smiled and said, "CIA news, Wahid is a prince, and an important one at that. His brother is about to inherit the throne."

"Oh, no wonder."

Anton shrugged and said, "I find it hard to imagine how someone like Wahid became the actual deputy director of Shah’s intelligence, and it seems he holds considerable power."

Then Anton regretfully said, "I think we should abandon the idea of Wahid accompanying us to meet Baghdadi."

Yang Yi agreed wholeheartedly and nodded, "Yeah, he’s like a time bomb, and the worst part is that he’s not even a timed bomb, but one that could explode at any moment. I can’t have a bomb by my side; it’s too dangerous."

"Azar is at least a normal person. He might try to set up some obstacles for us or ask for some benefits, but at least he’s normal. I prefer dealing with normal people; I don’t have to worry about being dragged down. Just like you said, Azar is at least not a bomb."

Finished with a sense of helplessness, Anton solemnly said to Yang Yi, "I think you need to stop Wahid. If it really doesn’t work, then Azar and I will go to meet Baghdadi, and you just stay to keep Wahid in check."

Yang Yi thought for a moment, then frowned and said, "If I can go, of course I’ll go to meet Baghdadi. But if Wahid insists on going, then I’ll have to stay behind to manage Wahid, and not let him ruin our plan."

Being with Wahid is too dangerous; he’s like a crescent in the night sky, hanging in this dangerous place of Baghdad, shining his own light.

If you don’t want to die, you need to stay away from Wahid.

But to keep Wahid from disrupting the mission, you have to hold him back. Yang Yi felt the burden on his shoulders was heavy.

The car stopped at the entrance of a luxury hotel in the Green Zone.

When Wahid got out of the car, he couldn’t hide his royal bearing, because besides his aide, he now had four or five bodyguards and attendants carrying his stuff and opening doors for him.

After passing security check and entering the heavily guarded hotel, Wahid pointed at Yang Yi and, with an authoritative air, said, "Get a suite for my friend here, I want to be his neighbor."

It was best to acknowledge Wahid’s kindness; Yang Yi knew he wouldn’t like being refused.

Entering Wahid’s room, Yang Yi realized that even as a wealthy man, he might even have more money than Wahid, yet in the domain of enjoying life, which requires talent and heritage, there was such a stark difference.

The hotel’s furnishings and decorations were quite ordinary, but it couldn’t be helped that Wahid could bring his own luxuries.

A peculiar mindset indeed, normal folk just couldn’t comprehend it. For example, Yang Yi couldn’t fathom why Wahid was undertaking a spy mission, something so serious and life-threatening, without slightly reducing his entourage or the standards of comfort.

Wahid gestured for Yang Yi to sit down, then he said, looking rather helpless, "The conditions here are terrible, really terrible. Please don’t mind this harsh environment, have a seat."

Yang Yi couldn’t help his eyelids from twitching twice.

Both wealthy, but why can he flaunt it so much?

Is this the difference between a hidden tycoon and one known worldwide?

After harshly criticizing himself internally, Yang Yi smiled and said, "The conditions in Baghdad are indeed quite poor, but you have already made up for the shortcomings here."

Wahid waved his hand dismissively and said, "No, nowhere near enough. Well, I’m just here for work, so I can’t pursue personal enjoyment too much, so I am quite able to endure the harsh work environment. Alright, now let’s talk business, Azar!"

Azar stepped out from behind Wahid’s retinue, speaking solemnly, "We’ve already made contact with Barham. Tomorrow, we will enter Mosul to meet him. On the way..."

Wahid, evidently hearing Azar’s words for the first time, exclaimed in surprise, "Wait, we’re going to see Baghdadi and also going to Mosul?"

Azar tried not to let his expression become too stiff, smiled and said, "Your Highness, this place is not secure enough, we should... should..."

Wahid waved his hand and said, "Let him come to see me, hmm, somewhere closer would do..."

For the first time, Azar interrupted Wahid, lowering his head, saying softly, "That’s really impossible, Your Highness. Barham can’t come."

Wahid glanced at Azar.

Azar kept his head bowed, looking desolate, and said, "Your Highness, that’s really not possible."

Yang Yi cleared his throat twice and said, "Having Barham come to see us would indeed be too dangerous for him, so we should go see him instead."

Of course, Yang Yi wanted Baghdadi to come see him; he could then inform Black Devil and let Satan set an ambush.

But the problem is, Yang Yi knew it was impossible, absolutely impossible, so there’s no point in wasting time. Before his patience with Wahid reached its limit, he needed to push forward with the real business.

"Uh, I suggest, why don’t you wait here for news while we go to see Baghdadi with Mr. Azar? The environment in Mosul is too harsh."

Wahid didn’t hesitate much and quickly said, "Alright, Azar, make it fast, I’ve only booked this room for a week."
