Chapter 1225: Chapter 1230: Utterly Defeated

Yang Yi now wants to sever his ties with the Organization of Water. The best outcome would be if he could retain full control of the organization, yet ensure that it wouldn’t instantly fall apart after his departure.

To achieve the ideal state, an excellent deputy and successor is indispensable. Fortunately for Yang Yi, he has Annastasia—whether as a second-in-command during emergencies or as someone who could hold up the entirety of the Organization of Water should anything happen to Yang Yi, Annastasia is more than capable.

Annastasia is the deputy, while Brian holds the title of the organization’s highest authority in terms of combat power.

But there’s an issue: the Pandora Box that Brian commands still doesn’t fully belong to the Organization of Water. It’s as if Brian, despite being the second-ranking figure in the organization, leads a private army of his own—which isn’t a great situation.

To be honest, if it were another leader with a more pronounced paranoid disposition, they might not even tolerate the existence of this husband-and-wife duo, Annastasia and Brian. After all, if these two joined forces, it would be all too easy to sideline Yang Yi.

Luckily, the Organization of Water isn’t very large. The unity of its members ensures Yang Yi doesn’t have to worry about internal power struggles or coups.

However, if the organization were to grow stronger, then the dynamic with Brian and Annastasia would require attention—perhaps even vigilant preparation. Foresight counters calamity. Right now, Yang Yi feels deeply insecure about his personal safety. His hope is that, even in the event of his death or an incident, the Organization of Water would carry forward his legacy, rather than have all his efforts end up benefitting someone else.

Even in his youth, Yang Yi has begun contemplating the topic of leadership succession, but the heir he’s chosen happens to be an elder.

Yang Yi has no choice but to start preparing for his endgame. If he truly meets his demise, those who inherit his legacy will be a group of old-timers.

What a strange situation this is.

Brian and Annastasia are both trustworthy—reliable even. Yet the problem lies in the fact that it was through the collective hard work of everyone that the Organization of Water reached this point. It was achieved through their shared risks and sacrifices. Yang Yi should be considering how the organization could continue to operate after his departure, rather than having it fall into any one individual’s hands.

The Organization of Water needs to enhance its combat power, but this new force cannot be handed over to Brian. The only remaining option is Aaron.

Having Aaron search for and form the most elite fighting force seems like a good plan. Brian’s forces are composed of people from the United States, so if Aaron were to recruit, it would almost certainly involve individuals from Russia. Natural opposition, natural balance—it seems like the best choice.

The Organization of Water operates as a whole, but each section functions independently. The intelligence network division, the finance division, the armaments division, Brian and Aaron’s core combat units, and Zhang Yong’s external forces—these components all operate seamlessly under unified command, coordinating exceptionally well. Moreover, if one side encounters trouble, the others remain unaffected. The organization thus far has more or less achieved this level of structural integrity.

If Aaron’s authority, personnel, and operational funds are expanded, the Organization of Water could essentially stabilize completely. Of course, there’s still a lot of work to be done and numerous details to refine, but the overall framework is already in place.

The Organization of Water doesn’t appear to have any major issues remaining. But what about other people?

At this thought, Yang Yi bitterly laughed twice, realizing it might also be time to prepare an exit strategy for others.

These individuals specifically refer to women, such as Xiao Ran, Kate, and Bonnie.

Bonnie can be excluded from this consideration. Yang Yi is almost certain that if he dies, she won’t survive either. Leaving her a large sum of money wouldn’t make much sense. But then again, whether such preparation is useful or not and whether or not to leave money are two distinct matters. What if Bonnie successfully retires? In that case, if she’s alive but destitute, wouldn’t that be a painful situation?

And then there’s Petra.

Yang Yi couldn’t help but glance at Petra.

Petra doesn’t lack money since her father is worth hundreds of billions. Yet the problem is that Yang Yi’s feelings toward Petra are enormously complicated. She was the first woman in his life, and to this day, he’s still deceiving her. Love and guilt intertwine, making Yang Yi feel deeply pained and conflicted every time he looks at her.

Hmm, he should leave something for Petra as well. Whether she uses it or not is her own choice, but he must set it aside for her.

Shares in companies won’t do—it’s too dangerous, as they can’t feasibly be hidden. The only option is cash—cash accounts, and ones that are secure, impossible for anyone to trace.

Boer can arrange the funds. Currently, he can effortlessly mobilize billions or even tens of billions of dollars in liquidity. With Jethro serving as the cash cow, Yang Yi doesn’t lack money. The only issue remaining would be how to safely transfer and securely stash the funds.

Boer wouldn’t be suitable for the job. So, who else could help?

Yang Yi thought of Justin.

As someone from an intelligence dynasty, the Cicero Family excels at intelligence transactions. They’re equally adept at laundering money. Handing the cash to Justin to wash through multiple cycles feels like a solid plan.

Speaking of it, the initial idea behind Boer establishing a bank on Wall Street was precisely for money laundering purposes. When it comes to laundering money, there’s no place more convenient than Boer’s operations. Yet therein lies the problem—Boer is an insider, intimately familiar with every aspect of the Organization of Water. Yang Yi’s goal is to ensure that beyond the chosen inheritors, no one else knows of these funds’ existence. Therefore, Boer isn’t suitable for the task.

Start with ten billion US dollars; after laundering, it will likely shrink to around eight billion. Four women could then receive two billion dollars each.

Once decided, Yang Yi didn’t want to wait.

However, making that phone call posed a bit of a challenge. He couldn’t call in front of Petra, nor could he use the phone provided by the Grey-cloaked People. Yang Yi suddenly realized how miserable it felt to live perpetually under surveillance.

The Grey-cloaked People likely couldn’t monitor Yang Yi’s every move round-the-clock. But the problem remained—Yang Yi couldn’t discern when he was being watched or at what moments certain activities were being surveilled. This uncertainty rendered his life extraordinarily complex and agonizing.

For example, just to make this phone call, Yang Yi needed a great deal of effort to convince himself he wasn’t being monitored. Yet whether the phone itself was tapped remained entirely uncertain.

The thrill was certainly there, but it wasn’t remotely enjoyable. It was oppressive, stifling, and utterly tedious—this is the life of a spy.

Creating a relatively safe environment just to make a call meant Yang Yi had to leave. But as he decided to temporarily bid farewell to Petra, a thought suddenly struck him.

Yang Yi realized once again how Aaron’s psychological pressure on him had become overwhelming—so much so that he involuntarily began contemplating and arranging matters for his afterlife. From a psychological standpoint, he had already lost—lost utterly.

This couldn’t continue. He couldn’t allow himself to be led by the nose by Aaron. Otherwise, if Aaron truly presented something shockingly impactful, Yang Yi might just defect.

He had to counterattack. He had to win the psychological war. He had to regain the confidence he had lost!
