Chapter 1219: Chapter 1224: The Solution
Did Elvin die for nothing?
Did all those cleaners who willingly sacrificed themselves for their ideals die for nothing?
Did the cleaners give up so much for it all to end in vain?
Aaron still believed that Yang Yi and the cleaners might have joined forces to deliver a compelling performance for him. And if Aaron thought this was possible, then perhaps all the sacrifices and efforts weren’t wasted.
Because Aaron merely felt it was possible right now, and without the cleaners paying the price, Aaron wouldn’t even entertain such a possibility.
Yang Yi wouldn’t have earned his current treatment either—a traitor of no value with questionable loyalty—what good would keeping him around do?
So, the cost was worth it. However, when it came to Aaron’s confidence, Yang Yi simply couldn’t figure it out.
Speculation and guesses were certainly permissible, but Yang Yi didn’t dare make any guesses now, fearing it might cloud his judgment.
As long as Aaron or the Grey-cloaked People didn’t actively reveal the answer, Yang Yi wouldn’t make any assumptions.
An organization that considers its objectives its greatest secret, and whose very purpose being leaked would lead to its annihilation—such an organization must have grand ambitions.
What could its goal be? The annihilation of all humanity?
But judging by Aaron’s confidence, he must know that the Grey-cloaked People’s objective wouldn’t involve something as absurd as annihilating all humanity, because how could Aaron be certain that Yang Yi was also a lunatic bent on destroying humanity?
Then, could the Grey-cloaked People’s goal be saving all mankind?
Alright, such a notion seems equally impossible, and wholly impractical to boot.
So, there’s no point guessing—better not waste thought on it at all.
"Let’s get back on topic. How do you plan to deal with Brian?"
Aaron looked at Yang Yi with a smile and said, "The method I’d prefer, you certainly wouldn’t agree to."
"Indeed, don’t even entertain the idea of killing him. Although you could certainly do it—I probably couldn’t stop you, and it might even cause the collapse of the entire Organization of Water—but I’d most definitely try to stop you. Hmm. But if you genuinely value me, why not strike that option off the table and think of a more feasible approach?"
Aaron sighed deeply and said, "You’re rather shameless, though I don’t mind... but this makes things much harder to resolve, not to mention the cost will skyrocket—and that’s not quite aligned with what I need."
Yang Yi smiled slightly and said, "Actually, what Brian desires most is to find a woman, and he’s already found her now. So...I think the most troublesome part has already been dealt with. All that remains is your personal grudge with him—notably, him being scapegoated, which landed him in prison for decades. But I think such matters are relatively easy to handle."
Aaron exhaled lightly and laughed, "Easy to handle? I wouldn’t dare to think so."
"An excuse, one that’s justifiable enough to give him closure. With me present, it should be straightforward to convince Brian to let go of his resentment. What do you think?"
Aaron spread his hands, looked at Yang Yi, and said, "Well, you’ve already provided a solution. Fine, I agree with your approach. At the right time, I’ll give him an acceptable explanation."
Yang Yi exhaled softly and said, "As long as you have that attitude, I think the matter can definitely be resolved. Now, may I ask you a question? Are you truly a KGB mole?"
Aaron curled his lips and said, "What do you think?"
"I think you are. But you’re certainly more than just a mole. Perhaps, for you, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a Deputy Director of the CIA or a KGB mole. These roles may not even hold significance."
Aaron chuckled while scratching his head and said, "I’m afraid I can’t answer that question. Maybe I’ll tell you someday, but now isn’t the time."
"Alright, I understand that the question was a bit presumptuous. So, what am I supposed to do next?"
Aaron frowned and said, "Recover. Once your body is healed, there’ll naturally be tasks for you to tackle."
Yang Yi screwed his face into a bitter expression and said, "Now that I’m an enemy of the cleaners, this means much of my business will face retaliatory attacks. I can’t just sit here doing nothing, right?"
Aaron spoke calmly, "It’s fine. Actually, you don’t need to worry too much about your safety. First, you can protect yourself; secondly, I believe that in the current situation, the cleaners won’t pay much attention to you. They’ve got more important things to focus on. If they were to strike against you, it might allow us to track them down in this highly tense scenario. You’re simply not that important anymore."
"Oh? What’s that supposed to mean? Do you think the cleaners will let me off the hook? Even after I caused them such serious losses?"
Aaron laughed, "Indeed. If what Elvin said is true, then you’re truly not important anymore. After all, you’ve inflicted the damage already. But given that what you know can no longer cause further harm to the cleaners, they won’t waste their efforts on you. Time is precious, after all."
"The Revelation..."
"Don’t ask. Don’t say. Don’t think. I’ll forgive you for this time, but if you blabber nonsense again, you’ll truly be left with no choice but to die."
Yang Yi took a gamble; Elvin had mentioned the keyword "Revelation," which clearly indicated this was deliberately leaked by the cleaners. Despite knowing Aaron wouldn’t reveal the answer, Yang Yi still wanted to test Aaron’s reaction.
Aaron’s reaction didn’t disappoint Yang Yi—it was as intense as expected. He issued the sternest possible warning to Yang Yi, and that was enough for now.
"Alright, I understand. So, is there anything else?"
Aaron shook his head and said, "I should take my leave. I’ve been waiting here far too long. Feel free to recuperate safely here. If you want to leave, it’s up to you, though this place offers better security at the moment. You’re permitted to contact the outside world, so long as you remember what you should and shouldn’t say."
Aaron walked to the door but suddenly turned back and said to Yang Yi, "Once you’re mobile, go see Petra. Mainly, once your face is presentable, make certain you meet with her. We still need your relationship with her intact—at least for now, we can’t afford to let her go. No problem, right?"
"Uh... alright, no problem."
Aaron smiled and said, "You know, being handsome and attracting women is sometimes an extraordinarily important talent. So don’t worry too much about your face—it definitely won’t turn ugly. Goodbye."
Aaron left, leaving behind Yang Yi and Bonnie. After exchanging a long glance, Bonnie finally muttered in a defeated tone, "I’d rather you become ugly, honestly."
Yang Yi instinctively touched the bandages on his face and muttered under his breath, "Honestly, I wouldn’t mind being disfigured either. That way, I’d have fewer troubles, and people would know I rely on skills, not my looks."
