Chapter 1197: Chapter 1202: They’re Playing for Real

The difficulty isn’t pulling the trigger; it’s spotting the target and dragging them out.

For an agent, when someone directly fires at them, the outcome is usually set in stone: either run for your life, or greet death.

Of course, there’s a third option—fighting back with everything you’ve got.

C514’s mission was to surveil Gong Yang, waiting for reinforcements to capture or eliminate him. But now, that plan was impossible.

Absolutely impossible. C514 was doomed.

Two men chased after C514’s car for several steps, until the vehicle crashed to the side; then, the two gunmen charged forward in haste.

"No rescue!"

Yang Yi spoke resolutely. He made up his mind and said in a hushed voice, "Keep your eyes on the guy behind us. If he moves, kill him."

Right at that moment, C514’s voice crackled weakly over the comms: "Ambushed on all fronts. We’re exposed. We’re exposed. We’re exposed. We’re exposed..."

Two suppressed gunshots rang out, and C514’s voice abruptly stopped.

Having already been shot and lost the ability to flee or fight, C514 still managed to inform his team about the ambush just before losing his life.

The two gunmen fired two shots through the car window, killing C514. One of them then opened the car door, causing C514’s lifeless body to slump from the driver’s seat. The other bent down to inspect the vehicle.

A lone figure paced steadily past Yang Yi and his team’s car. He didn’t so much as glance inside.

Yang Yi exhaled faintly and muttered under his breath, "We’re fine. Stay here and keep monitoring."

"Monitoring," as they called it, was just a polite expression. In truth, their role was to do nothing, merely remaining on the scene to maintain an appearance.

Yang Yi and the others could have rescued C514, but he chose not to. From every angle, standing by and observing was the optimal strategy.

Even in his role as a CIA agent, Yang Yi’s priority was to continue hiding and surveilling Gong Yang—not to toss away their last opportunity by attempting a rescue.

Yang Yi pulled out his phone and called Aaron. When Aaron answered, Yang Yi spoke softly, "Four members of the emergency team are all dead. Reinforcements haven’t arrived yet. I’m still on-site, maintaining surveillance. I need reinforcements urgently! More people, faster!"

"Is Gong Yang still under surveillance?"

"Yes!"

"Understood. Hang in there! Do not, under any circumstances, let Gong Yang slip through our fingers again! Reinforcements are on their way—whatever it takes, keep watching Gong Yang!"

Aaron’s tone wasn’t agitated, but it was firm. Yang Yi ended the call, shook his head, and said, "A large team will be here soon. It’s not my turn to lead this time."

Yang Yi looked up and grimly said, "Must keep eyes on Gong Yang, huh... Hah."

As he spoke, Yang Yi activated his GPS, allowing the CIA to pinpoint his location.

Here was Mexico City—not CIA territory, not the Cleaner’s turf, and not the domain of the Grey-cloaked People. Yet all three factions had significant forces they could mobilize here.

In other words, the battle here had only just begun.

Just after Yang Yi sent out his coordinates, he noticed the three men who had killed C514 regrouping. They showed no suspicious behavior; in fact, they moved as if they were a trio of diners leisurely leaving a restaurant after finishing their meal.

But suddenly, Anton’s voice cut in sharply: "Duck!"

Yang Yi instinctively ducked and shrank his body down, and with a crack, then another crack, two small holes appeared in the windshield of their car.

If he hadn’t ducked, one of those shots would’ve barreled straight into Yang Yi’s head.

"They mean business?"

Anton wasn’t entirely sure, but as he spoke, he started the car, reversing it sharply.

"Shoot!"

Yang Yi shouted.

Xiao Ran extended her firearm and fired four shots in succession. The three gunmen shooting at them went down one after another.

At that moment, a sudden flash of light appeared in front of Yang Yi, followed by a deafening explosion that rendered his ears useless.

The car windows shattered completely. Yang Yi felt a burning sting on his face, reached up to wipe it, and his fingers came away with shards of glass embedded in his skin.

Anton continued reversing the car, shouting something as he did. Yang Yi shook his head, then yelled at Anton, "RPG! They’re going all out!"

The explosion had erupted just ahead of the car, narrowly missing a direct hit. Still, the blast shockwave caused injuries to those inside. The explosion left Yang Yi’s face marred, and Anton—seated next to him—was also spattered with blood.

"Queen! Queen!"

Anton’s voice cracked with alarm; he had spotted the looming threat.

Behind them stood a figure once again lifting a rocket launcher. Anton knew their only chance of survival was for Xiao Ran to take out the rocket launcher operator before they fired.

Xiao Ran didn’t let Anton down. Using her pistol—which, given the unstable reversing movement of the car, was far better than her sniper rifle—she fired her first shot directly into the rocket operator’s chest, and her second into their forehead.

For now, the rocket launcher was dealt with. They could disembark.

Anton slammed on the brakes. Xiao Ran holstered her pistol, then grabbed her assault rifle as Anton picked up a submachine gun and began firing bursts out of the car.

"Get out of the car!"

Yang Yi yelled. Xiao Ran hugged her rifle and shoved the car door open, flipping herself out onto the ground. She quickly dropped down prone and positioned herself behind the car’s tail end, her rifle aimed outward.

Anton’s blind firing wasn’t achieving much—not even as suppressive fire. But it did serve as a distraction, buying Xiao Ran the time she needed to exit the car efficiently.

Once she was out, Xiao Ran opened fire.

Yang Yi also exited the vehicle. As soon as he was clear, Anton followed suit, but just as he poked half his body out, a bullet came diagonally from above, striking him in the back of his shoulder.

The heavy bulletproof vest saved him.

Anton grimaced but immediately lifted his gun, aiming at a slanted window above. A moment later, with a shot fired, the gunman who had hit Anton fell backward.

Xiao Ran fired another shot, hitting a man who had just emerged with a gun. He was struck in the chest and collapsed behind a parked car.

Yang Yi, gripping his weapon with his right hand, scanned the area and calmly commanded, "Retreat! Fast retreat!"
