Chapter 1195: Chapter 1200 Extreme Danger
"You are the temporary head of the Special Mission Task Force. No action codes, no identification codes. The Mexico City emergency team has been activated. Four personnel will rendezvous with you as quickly as possible—stay in contact. We’ll dispatch reinforcements whenever needed."
Aaron’s message was brief. Yang Yi urgently replied, "Four people aren’t enough! The number of Gong Yang’s guards is uncertain, but initial estimates suggest there are at least twenty of them. Please deploy more personnel to me as quickly as possible!"
"Understood. Keep him in sight. This time, we must capture Gong Yang!"
"Capture?"
"Capture if possible. If not, take him out!"
"Understood."
The CIA had its own emergency protocol. Yang Yi and Aaron didn’t need much communication. As long as Aaron granted Yang Yi operational authority, the rest was manageable.
But four people truly felt insufficient, something Yang Yi couldn’t ignore.
Bonnie was tailing Gong Yang’s vehicle. Anton and Xiao Ran had regrouped, while Yang Yi took a cab, staying at a distance behind them.
Yang Yi was anxious as hell. He wanted the CIA team to take over as soon as possible. If Bonnie’s cover got blown, they’d risk losing track of Gong Yang altogether.
After driving for 20 minutes, Yang Yi finally received his first phone call.
"Agent C514 reporting for reinforcements!"
Yang Yi let out a long sigh of relief and immediately said, "Location!"
Yang Yi checked his watch. He pressed the button to adjust the time, revealing a small screen under the watch face. After lightly tapping the screen again, a display hidden beneath the dial lit up.
The watch’s central marker showed Yang Yi himself, while a rapidly approaching dot ahead represented C514.
"Position confirmed. Rendezvous ahead. Prepare a vehicle for me."
Yang Yi ended the call. Moments later, he saw a black sedan abruptly stop on the highway in front of him, make a quick U-turn, and park on the side of the road in his direction.
"Stop here!"
Yang Yi instructed the cab driver to pull over. Tossing a bill to the driver, he exited the taxi swiftly and opened the black sedan’s door. A man in his forties sat inside, staring intently at him.
"Let me brief you. We’ve located someone we’ve been tracking for a long time. My team is currently tailing him. However, my cover is blown, and only one person continues the pursuit. You need to stay on the target. As long as you can keep tracking him, it’s a win. Can you manage that?"
"We’ll do our best not to fail the mission."
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Good. Proceed."
He ran a quick test on the radio but couldn’t contact Bonnie.
The current radio system had limited range and could only support close-distance communication. Bonnie had likely gone too far for contact, but calling her directly on the phone remained feasible, so the problem wasn’t too significant.
Yang Yi dialed Bonnie’s number, and she quickly picked up.
"Location, license plate number, safe or not?"
After Bonnie responded, Yang Yi whispered to the agent speeding along in the driver’s seat, "Still tailing. Ten kilometers ahead. But I can’t confirm if we’ve been compromised."
Agent C514 promptly replied, "We’ll move in. Preparing to switch out personnel."
The agent picked up the car’s radio and spoke in a deep voice, "Target approaching C515’s surveillance zone. License plate llF-11-27. Stay on him!"
C514 was impressive. He had already stationed a trailing vehicle along the road, ready to begin surveillance seamlessly without exposing themselves as Gong Yang’s car came through.
Yang Yi felt very satisfied.
"Thanks, brother. Big assist there."
Yang Yi looked genuinely grateful. C514, however, responded coolly, "Just doing my duty. Describe the target’s appearance for me."
Yang Yi provided Gong Yang’s current physical description. C514 then asked indifferently, "Is the target dangerous?"
"Extremely dangerous!"
Yang Yi spoke with grave seriousness, then elaborated further, "The target is highly dangerous, with numerous hidden guards by his side. Their exact number remains unclear, but they’re tough opponents."
"Understood."
C514 picked up his radio again and spoke in his steady voice, "Target is highly dangerous. Exercise caution. Just keep him in sight."
A few moments later, C514 suddenly said to Yang Yi, "We’ve locked onto the target vehicle. Your team can pull back now."
Yang Yi immediately relayed instructions over the phone, "Personnel switch complete. You may withdraw. Proceed as planned."
The two men ceased further dialogue. After moving forward in silence for a while, C514 abruptly said, "We don’t have a spare vehicle. If you need a car, I can only give you this one."
Yang Yi paused briefly, then shook his head, "Since you’ve locked onto him, I won’t take the car. Your vehicle is equipped—I wouldn’t want to handicap your team."
"Thanks for understanding."
"Emergency situations—none of us are fully prepared. Let’s grant each other some patience."
C514 wasn’t offended. It was an emergency scenario, so lack of prior preparation was expected. Since the Mexico-based CIA emergency team was formed to handle precisely these kinds of situations, they’d come equipped—even if not perfectly tailored to the crisis, they had enough to handle most contingencies.
Yang Yi glanced at his wrist again and softly spoke, "Old Fox, I’m closing in on you. Pick me up."
C514 side-eyed Yang Yi, particularly eyeing his watch. Suddenly, he asked, "Is that the latest model?"
"Uh, what?"
"Your watch. The all-in-one gadget with tracking, laser, communication features...does it have a poison needle too? I heard the production cost is over three hundred grand—true?"
"Yep. It’s accurate. You guys don’t have these yet?"
C514 shrugged and chuckled, "Gear like that is rarely issued to us. Maybe if I get transferred back to headquarters...eh, still unlikely. Top-tier agents get these; I’ve heard about them but never seen one. Our equipment hasn’t been updated in two years, you know. Overseas task forces are often overlooked—especially here in Mexico."
C514 laughed, "There’s hardly anything to do here. No real emergencies to handle."
"Honestly, no emergencies would be better. I’m not a fan of crisis scenarios."
Both men chuckled. Yang Yi didn’t know C514’s name, nor would C514 know Yang Yi’s. The nature of their professions meant minimal interaction, and they would never unnecessarily probe for details. Small talk revolving around equipment was about as far as casual conversation could go.
Yang Yi spotted Anton’s vehicle and murmured, "Drop me off next to that car upfront."
As the car slowed down, Yang Yi suddenly remarked, "You know, having more features isn’t always better. Gadgets like this flashy multi-functional watch look cool, but if something goes wrong, you lose all its functions in one go. Honestly, I’m not too fond of it."
C514 waved dismissively and smiled, "True enough. But isn’t it like a sophisticated, expensive toy? Fun to play with, but impractical when it matters. Still... I kind of want one, hahaha."
C514 burst into laughter. Watching Yang Yi step out of the car, he added, "Good luck out there. Stay in touch."
Yang Yi also waved and said sternly, "Be careful."
