Chapter 1186: Chapter 1191: Scandal
There were no particularly obvious signs, but Yang Yi had an unmistakable feeling that a storm was approaching. The Grey-cloaked People, who hadn’t made such a major move in decades—what exactly were they planning?
Yang Yi wanted to know, and the Cleaners wanted to know even more. That’s why they were willing to pay a hefty price, just to create an opportunity for Yang Yi to infiltrate the Grey-cloaked People.
And now, Yang Yi had only one thing left to do: borrow a "head."
Of course, saying "borrow a head" was a bit exaggerated, because Yang Yi wasn’t planning on taking out Gong Yang, but using Satan’s people to carry out the entire plan was undoubtedly necessary.
The first step was to find Tyler. It didn’t really matter how, as long as Tyler realized he was being monitored.
So it was time to talk to Aaron about this, but before that, Yang Yi needed to head home.
Well, from many perspectives, it was arguably the only place Yang Yi could currently call home.
The house was bought by Yang Yi, and it was also where his nominal girlfriend—even fiancée—lived.
When Yang Yi knocked on the door, Petra, who had been waiting for him to come home, opened it and immediately hugged him tightly.
"You’re really back."
Yang Yi found it strange. For a couple supposedly madly in love, long separations should have led to a breakup pretty quickly, yet Petra seemed indifferent to it.
"Did you miss me?"
"Of course I did, every day, every moment. I couldn’t do my research, couldn’t read books, couldn’t even focus on a movie. When the movie ended, I couldn’t even tell what it was about because my mind was full of you. Darling, you’re lowering my IQ."
Yang Yi kissed Petra lightly, then sighed with helplessness and said, "I’ve been way too busy. I don’t get to spend much time with you, and for that, I’m really sorry..."
"No need to apologize. My dad was the same way. Honestly, I’m used to it."
She guided Yang Yi to the sofa, poured two glasses of juice, handed one to Yang Yi, and then nestled happily by his side, asking excitedly, "So, how did it go? Smoothly?"
"Yeah, very smoothly. Everything was resolved perfectly."
"Next time you go to Europe, if it’s not for work, can you take me with you? I’ve been to Europe many times, but never traveled with you before."
Petra looked full of anticipation. Yang Yi hesitated but ultimately decided not to give in, apologetically replying, "Uh, I have to head to Washington, D.C. tomorrow. This trip will take a few days..."
Petra thought about it for a moment, then quietly said, "Hmm, I don’t have much to do these days. While you’re working, I don’t need to call you or stay by your side. I could just wait for you at the hotel."
She was starting to get a bit clingy. Yang Yi felt a slight headache coming on. After thinking it over, he still shook his head and said, "This time it’s inconvenient. Next time, okay? I’ll only be in Washington for a day if all goes well."
Petra seemed a tad disappointed but still murmured softly, "Oh, just one day. Then forget it."
Feeling slightly guilty, Yang Yi sipped his juice. At that moment, Petra suddenly asked cautiously, "Have you... fallen for someone else?"
Yang Yi froze in utter shock and blurted out, "Why would you say that?"
Petra hesitated before replying, "You have a scent of perfume on you. It’s really faint, but it’s the same as last time. I know what perfume this is..."
Good heavens, Kate didn’t use perfume, nor did Xiao Ran. The only one who did was Bonnie. But how could Petra have picked up on that? After all, Yang Yi hadn’t had any close contact with Bonnie these past days.
"What? Perfume? How is that possible? At most, we’ve only been in the same office. That would leave a perfume scent on me?"
Yang Yi sniffed his clothes in bewilderment, then said to Petra, "Just like any other company, there are female employees. I don’t know who might wear perfume. I’m really confused right now."
Petra pursed her lips and said softly, "The last time I noticed that scent on you, you hadn’t left the United States. This time you’re back from Europe, but it’s still the same perfume."
Yang Yi prided himself on his quick wit, immaculate schemes, and top-notch acting, yet now he felt utterly at a loss for how to explain.
Petra whispered, "Could it be your assistant’s perfume?"
He had to think carefully before answering—this was a trap.
Without hesitation, Yang Yi said, "My assistant? That’s impossible. Does she even wear perfume? I wouldn’t know. I’ll have to ask her."
Petra exhaled slightly with relief. Yang Yi hadn’t outright denied it, and he genuinely looked clueless.
"It’s normal if you didn’t notice. This perfume is very faint, but it has strong penetrating power, and my sense of smell is always sharp when it comes to perfumes."
Petra smiled, then softly asked, "Sweetheart, when should we get married?"
Yang Yi felt like he was choking on his juice.
"Uh, let me think."
After a moment of contemplation, Yang Yi said to Petra, "I haven’t figured out how to plan our wedding yet. Do you have any ideas? If you do, let me know, and we can discuss it together."
Looking eager and enthusiastic, Yang Yi came across as genuinely interested in marriage, successfully clearing this second hurdle.
Just then, Yang Yi’s phone rang. He took it out, glanced at it, and answered it right in front of Petra.
Anton’s voice came through in a low tone. "Boss, is it convenient for you to talk now?"
"Yes."
"There are just a few minor issues with our bank acquisition case that might require your decision. Are you coming to the office, or...?"
Yang Yi glanced at his watch and said, "I’m heading to the office. Come pick me up downstairs."
Ending the call, Yang Yi turned to Petra with an apologetic look. "I’ve only just come back..."
Though disappointed, Petra was understanding.
"Work comes first. Will you be back for dinner?"
"I will. No matter what, I’ll be home for dinner. See you tonight, darling."
Yang Yi left the house hurriedly and headed downstairs. By now, his expression had entirely shifted—he was a different man from moments before.
"Is everything going smoothly here? What stage is the progress at now?"
Anton shrugged. "Smooth, yeah, but there are minor setbacks that might need your intervention."
Yang Yi was surprised. The call a moment ago had been something he orchestrated. He hadn’t expected there to be an actual issue.
"Really? Problems? What’s the situation? Is it serious?"
Anton let out a breath and said in a low voice, "Not too serious—just a historical hang-up. Uh, that twisted Larry Bell we took out left some messes for us."
"What?"
Anton looked exasperated. "We knew Larry Bell was deranged, but not to what extent. To put it simply, if we don’t cover up this scandal, then there’s no point in acquiring Bell Securities—it’ll go under."
