Chapter 1139: Chapter 1144: Deciding the Battle in Advance
Just as Anton couldn’t help but grab Yang Yi by the collar, he heard a girl’s voice shout, "What are you doing!"
Anton and Yang Yi both turned their heads and saw the girl who had just brought Yang Yi a hot dog glaring at them, though, of course, the glare was directed only at Anton. When her gaze landed on Yang Yi, it softened.
"Let go of him, I’m going to call the cops!"
The girl looked a bit scared, but she still loudly proclaimed her righteous declaration.
Anton released Yang Yi, and then he even straightened Yang Yi’s clothes, saying awkwardly, "He’s my friend, we were just talking."
Yang Yi quickly nodded, saying, "He’s my friend, we were just joking, really."
The girl’s expression shifted, and then she walked up to Yang Yi, looking at him with questioning eyes. After a moment, when she saw no secret signals in Yang Yi’s gaze, she finally believed his words.
"Are you hungry?"
Yang Yi shook his head instinctively, and the girl immediately turned to Anton, asking, "Are you hungry?"
Anton looked at himself; there was nothing wrong with his attire, he didn’t look like someone who couldn’t afford a meal.
While Anton was lost in thought, the girl placed a hot dog in his hand and said enthusiastically, "I have four hot dogs here, just made, you can go over there to eat."
Anton took a breath, then picked up a hot dog, stuffed it into his mouth, and without looking back, walked to the side.
The girl turned to Yang Yi again and said, "Hello, my name is Emily, what’s your name? Uhm, my phone’s out of battery, could you lend me yours?"
Yang Yi swallowed and asked, "How old are you?"
"Me? I... I’m sixteen years old."
Yang Yi suddenly pointed and said, "Look."
When the girl turned her head, Yang Yi shouted, "The bus we were waiting for is here!"
Yang Yi quickly ran out, and after calling out to Anton, he turned back to the girl and shouted, "Sorry, I don’t have a phone!"
Anton looked at Yang Yi with a sorrowful gaze, a hot dog hanging from his mouth, and followed Yang Yi onto a bus they had never planned to take.
Once on the bus, Anton shook his head and said, "Alright, we can go home now."
Yang Yi listlessly gestured and said, "Girls in New York seem to be even more enthusiastic."
"You haven’t encountered this before?"
"Of course... I have, just not as extreme as in New York."
"Your clothes make you look like a homeless man; it’s inviting people to give you charity."
"Could you not say that?"
"Okay, it’s easy to evoke a woman’s sympathy, why not just..."
Seeing that Yang Yi’s eyes were nearly shooting fire, Anton shrugged and said, "I’m eating a hot dog."
"At least you got food from a stranger, isn’t it moving."
Anton quietly pocketed the remaining half of his hot dog, and then he said calmly, "Suddenly, I’m not hungry anymore."
Just at that moment, Yang Yi’s phone rang. After taking out his phone and glancing at Anton, he walked away from Anton before answering the call.
After speaking a few words with Petra, Yang Yi’s phone rang again. This time, when he answered it, he heard Boer speak indifferently, "Our offensive has officially launched. Bell Securities is trying to suppress the news, so tonight’s plan remains unchanged. Let’s have our insiders work together to deliver a fatal blow to Bell Securities."
Yang Yi responded listlessly, "Understood, we’ll talk when we meet."
"Mhm, I’ll wait for you. Please hurry."
Yang Yi hung up the call, then couldn’t help but sigh.
The plan was going well, but thinking of Xiao Ran, Yang Yi found it hard to feel happy.
At first, Xiao Ran acted very normally, which led Yang Yi to believe she had really gotten over him and that in the future, even if they couldn’t be everyday friends, they could still be good colleagues.
But now it seemed he had celebrated too soon.
Xiao Ran wasn’t emotionless, nor was she unresponsive. She just thought she could handle it, but as time went on, she realized she couldn’t.
So now, it wasn’t time to not worry about being shot in the back, but rather time to be even more concerned about being shot in the back.
Of course, Yang Yi didn’t dare to meet with Xiao Ran, not because he feared being shot in the back; he just genuinely didn’t know how to face Xiao Ran. In his view, it was better to cut things off decisively and not play ambiguous games. Sadly, Xiao Ran saw such actions as him being even more heartless.
What could Yang Yi do? He felt helpless too.
When he saw Xiao Ran again, Yang Yi wanted to keep a straight face, intending to discuss only business with Boer, but Anton suddenly elbowed him from behind, stealthily yet painfully.
Yang Yi knew why Anton was discontented, so he could only nod towards Xiao Ran and said with a smile, "You look unhappy. What’s the matter?"
Xiao Ran finally turned her head to glance at Yang Yi, then with a twist of her mouth, she said unhurriedly, "Still because I saw you, of course."
As soon as she said it, Xiao Ran regretted it. She felt she shouldn’t have said that, not because of resentment, but because it showed weakness in terms of emotions.
While Xiao Ran was regretting and thinking about what else she could say to salvage the situation, Boer came out. He hurriedly said to Yang Yi, "You’ve arrived just in time. Our insider needs to act earlier, and we will have to pay a greater price. Larry Bell is fully trying to extinguish the flames, with more force than I anticipated."
Yang Yi asked seriously, "What’s the situation?"
Boer said with a stern face, "Increase the investment. We absolutely cannot let him buy out the TV stations and newspapers. Larry Bell’s connections are now coming into play; the media that were supposed to hold him accountable are starting to shift their stance."
"What should we do?"
Boer shook his head, "Proceed with everything as planned. Newspapers are not timely enough now; we’ll only see results by tomorrow. But online, we must maintain control, continue to amplify our presence. We can leave the TV stations alone; let Larry Bell focus on settling that. But the decisive moment has come sooner."
Yang Yi tensed slightly, "Tomorrow?"
Boer hesitated for a moment before saying softly, "No, tonight."
Yang Yi was shocked because the decisive moment meant they had to get rid of Larry Bell, and this timeline was originally set for the day after tomorrow, at the earliest.
When all media launched a full assault, that would be when Bell Securities was most vulnerable. When Larry Bell had to use all his means to extinguish the fire, his sudden death would catch Bell Securities off guard.
But Larry Bell was quick to react and bold; he was willing to spend a lot of money to swiftly handle the crisis.
They could only deal with Larry Bell earlier, and although it was sudden, Yang Yi didn’t feel unprepared.
After pondering for a moment, Yang Yi nodded and said, "Then let’s make our move tonight."
