Chapter 1124: Chapter 1129: Begin
In the United States, on Wall Street, Bell Securities is not one of the largest investment banks. In terms of strength, it’s ranked at a mid-level position.
To be more specific, Bell Securities isn’t at the top tier, but it holds a leading position among the second-tier investment banks.
In any case, Bell Securities is an extremely formidable entity. Trying to leverage this behemoth with assets exceeding a hundred billion US dollars using tens of billions of dollars and legitimate business methods is almost impossible.
Of course, completing the entire acquisition will take a long time and will require many approvals, but once the main issues are resolved, the rest is just a matter of time.
How do you get hold of Bell Securities?
The first step is to create and spread rumors.
The second step is to keep Bell Securities in a state of crisis and turmoil.
It’s easy to create rumors in this world but difficult to dispel them; that’s why there’s a saying "rumors are spread by mouth, but dispelling them breaks the legs."
Therefore, the time difference between spreading rumors and dispelling them is very important. The most critical part is that the Organization of Water has planned and prepared many rumors, exploiting the time Bell Securities spends frantically dispelling them to eliminate investor panic to then seize the opportunity to assassinate Larry Bell.
Rumors alone can cause investor panic, but are not enough to shake the foundation of Bell Securities. The death of Larry Bell would not be enough to completely destabilize Bell Securities under normal circumstances, but combined with the rumors, it spells doom for Bell Securities.
So the third step is to assassinate Larry Bell at a critical moment, delivering a fatal blow to Bell Securities.
But that’s still not enough; there’s a very important fourth step, which is to prevent others from getting their hands on Bell Securities.
To work hard only to end up benefiting others is not uncommon; Yang Yi certainly does not want to prepare a wedding dress for someone else, so they must also prevent the covetous bystanders from swarming in to snatch the prey.
If Boer were to handle this alone, he wouldn’t be able to do it, because from a business perspective, his power is still too weak. Holding tens of billions of dollars in cash flow is always significant and can accomplish many great things, but it is not enough to purchase an investment bank when its operations are running smoothly unless he encounters an opportunity like the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, but there is no such opportunity now, so it’s impossible for him.
With just Yang Yi and the Organization of Water, even if they had tens of billions of dollars and resorted to methods beyond the rules of Wall Street, it would still be impossible for them to acquire an investment bank on Wall Street.
The reason is simple: the Organization of Water does not have people familiar with the rules and insider information of Wall Street. Without someone who has been immersed in Wall Street for years and has reached the level of bank president, no matter how much money a group of outsiders has, they would end up being played to death by the Wall Street magnates.
A successful alliance can create miracles, and both parties are essential.
"Among the investments made by Bell Securities, there are two companies worth noting. One is Barlin Technology, a high-tech company. Bell Securities has already invested 1.6 billion US dollars in this company, but it has not had any breakthroughs to speak of. It’s essentially a junk stock, just waiting to be blown up.
There is also a foundation called Waff Trust Fund. Bell Securities has invested a massive amount of capital in it, the exact total of which I have yet to determine, but it’s estimated to be no less than a billion dollars. In my view, all the activities of this foundation are typical of fraud."
Boer tapped his fingers lightly on the table twice and said, "We can use these two points to trigger a crisis in Bell Securities. It only takes three days to spread rumors and for them to fully circulate, but fermenting a credibility crisis will take about half a month, so we need the cooperation of securities media. Barlin Technology is an investment failure, but Waff Trust Fund is a scandal. We take it step by step, releasing the news to a suitable media outlet, using print and television media to expose Bell Securities’ failure with Barlin Technology."
Boer paused for a breath, then continued: "Now is an era of self-media, and it is not difficult to do this. We spread the scandal of Waff Trust Fund online, and before Bell Securities can react, we immediately let TV media follow up, digging deeper and expanding the scandal. As for insider information and intelligence, we will have everything prepared in advance, handed to the media for direct exposure, leaving Bell Securities no time to react or cover up the scandal."
How long Boer had been planning, Yang Yi didn’t know, but now when discussing the steps to be implemented, Boer was very methodical, making them all feel reassured.
This is the benefit of having an insider lead. There’s no need to worry about much; just follow the instructions.
"Alright, how do we start spreading rumors? We need the right people for the job, right?"
Boer picked up a piece of paper and began writing names on it, swiftly jotting down a total of twelve names before sliding the paper to Chris.
"This is your task now. These people are all capable of spreading rumors. Their words have credibility due to their status, and most importantly, they’re easy to buy off. Pay each person a reward of one hundred thousand US dollars, but this person will need more, give him five hundred thousand US dollars. He will perfect the rumor before spreading it further."
Boer circled one of the names with his pen and nodded, "That’s him. But leave him for last. If he refuses, make it clear that the consequences will be severe."
Chris had rehearsed many times with Boer and knew what role he had to play after arriving in the United States.
Why didn’t Boer give these names to Chris in advance?
Because this is the foundation upon which Boer’s life and career are built. Even though he has joined the Organization of Water, he surely isn’t willing to lay all his cards on the table.
Now, it is time for Boer to show his worth. It’s time to exhibit his full capabilities.
Chris took the paper and asked in a low voice, "What am I supposed to say?"
"You don’t need to say anything specific, just tell them you want their help. These people are all part-time rumor mongers; they won’t care about your identity or background. But we need help; real people who can assist us, people who can be considered for future employment."
Yang Yi couldn’t help but interject, "Is this backward? Shouldn’t we recruit people first and then launch the attack?"
Boer shook his head, "No, it depends on the situation. These people are not so easy to poach. Let them see that we have already taken action and convince them that they could indeed hold high positions in a new bank—it will be much easier."
Yang Yi spoke softly, "Hmm, why not plant some moles in Bell Securities? Wouldn’t having moles make our job easier?"
Boer raised his hand slightly, then smiled and said, "Of course, that’s necessary. And that’s exactly what you need to do. And buying off moles, such a low-cost and high-efficiency tactic, how could I possibly overlook that?"
