Chapter 1088: Chapter 1093: Animal Trap

Having wine splashed in one’s face is certainly intolerable, but when Yang Yi splashed the wine, the reaction of the beauty opposite him was also perhaps too quick.

It was almost as if the moment Yang Yi’s hand moved and before the wine could even splash out of the cup, the beauty in front of him suddenly struck towards Yang Yi’s wrist.

Even a sideways splash would have gotten some wine on the beauty, but although Yang Yi’s movements were both fast and sudden, he couldn’t manage to splash the wine at all.

The wine was flung into the air.

Yang Yi let go of the glass with his right hand and reached towards his lower back, while the beauty opposite him reached towards the inside of her thigh.

Then the familiar sensation occurred again, Yang Yi stabbed out with a knife, and the beauty opposite him stabbed towards him as well.

Both were aimed at each other’s neck; Yang Yi had to choose between dying together or dodging and failing to hit the assassin opposite him, but if he chose to dodge and the beauty still opted to take him down even at the cost of her own life, then he couldn’t avoid it.

But Yang Yi still chose to dodge, because he really feared that exchanging blow for blow could put him at a disadvantage.

Cupid had chosen to poison him twice already, and although Cupid’s blade had been poison-free the last time, who knew if it was this time.

Yang Yi retreated, and Cupid also backed away; once again, their choice was highly consistent—to rather forfeit the chance to take down the other than to risk their own life or even an injury.

Thus, the distance between the two stretched to two meters apart.

It was only after they really started fighting that Yang Yi realized the person before him indeed was hampered in movement, and even though he had a premonition, this confirmation solidified his judgement.

From the moment the beauty picked up the glass and drank the wine, Yang Yi had recognized that the beauty before him was Cupid.

Because of those hands, the face can change, even the figure can be altered, but there are very few who would go through complex disguises for their own hands. Why? Because for an assassin who requires delicate manipulation, applying anything on the hands is unacceptable.

Especially disguises that could cover fingerprints or change the thickness of fingers are something assassins, especially Cupid, would avoid at all costs.

Cupid is not the kind of assassin who completes missions by shooting from behind.

By now, Yang Yi could ascertain that Cupid was the kind of assassin that targets high-profile figures, who are safeguarded by multiple layers of protection, making it implausible to get close with a gun. Therefore, Cupid not only needs to create opportunities to approach the target but must also be adept at using the simplest of weapons, or even to assassinate without a weapon.

The style dictates that Cupid would not disguise their hands, and hands without a disguise could not deceive Yang Yi’s eyes.

It must be said that Cupid’s hands were maintained exceptionally well, leaving a lasting impression. Of course, few people would pay special attention to someone’s hands, especially to the hands of a waiter.

Do not forget that the first time Yang Yi met Cupid, Cupid was disguised as a waiter.

The facial structure was different, and the physique, it seemed, had significant differences, but since Cupid appeared as a man last time and as a woman this time, few would link a man they had seen before to a woman of great charm in front of them.

But Yang Yi happened to remember Cupid’s hands, and indeed, he distinguished them at first glance.

Everything that followed was easier to understand. Yang Yi’s peripheral vision always monitored Cupid’s hands; if the bartender wasn’t in cahoots with Cupid, then Cupid would have to poison the wine themselves.

And indeed, Cupid did poison the wine, although it was just a tiny bit of powder at the fingertips, hardly noticeable even upon close inspection.

Moreover, as Cupid pushed the wine glass towards Yang Yi, and when the glass stopped beside his hand, the liquid inside gently swayed, allowing the undissolved powder to dissolve completely and disappear without a trace.

Therefore, this was a glass of wine Yang Yi could not drink, because he knew it had been tampered with. However, refusing to drink this wine while planning to hit on her would also mean exposing his thoughts.

There wasn’t even time to delay, and Yang Yi couldn’t wait for Aaron to join him in taking action.

Thus, with no other choice, Yang Yi had to make his move.

Then Yang Yi once again felt the sensation he extremely loathed.

Fighting against one’s own shadow was too painful.

If one cannot turn off the light source, how can they possibly harm their own shadow?

That’s the feeling Yang Yi had now; his speed was already extremely fast, so fast that no one could react in time. However, the problem was that Cupid seemed to have known what he was about to do even before he made his move. Thus, as soon as Yang Yi moved, Cupid moved as well, and only by doing so was Cupid able to block all of his attacks.

Luckily, Cupid’s movements were indeed inconvenient. Upon realizing that he couldn’t succeed, his first reaction was to flee.

Cupid took a step back again, then he directly grabbed a woman passing by him.

He didn’t hesitate, didn’t falter, as if he had anticipated this step before making a move.

Cupid pulled a woman over, shielding himself between her and Aaron, not between her and Yang Yi.

As Aaron was a skilled operative sent by Hunter, tasked with delivering the fatal blow, how could he ignore the situation on Yang Yi’s side? So, as soon as Yang Yi and Cupid clashed, Aaron stood up and immediately drew his gun, aiming at Cupid.

But Cupid used a woman to shield himself.

Aaron didn’t fire the gun; firing was useless.

Cupid, holding onto the woman, took another step back, then he pushed the woman he was holding towards Yang Yi.

Yang Yi dodged to the side; he had to dodge, and dodge far enough, to prevent the possibility that the woman being pushed towards him was Cupid’s accomplice, who might take the opportunity to attack him. The probability was there and it was substantial.

The woman was innocent; she fell directly, but Yang Yi also lost the chance to chase after Cupid or to continue the fight with him up close.

The nightclub really wasn’t a good place for a fight, because there were too many people, the noise was too loud, and the lighting was too dim.

After pushing the woman away, Cupid grabbed another man, still positioning him between himself and Aaron.

Aaron simply flashed his gun, then he promptly holstered it again.

Firing recklessly was the most foolish act. Chasing with the gun drawn would only cause chaos and was meaningless, so Aaron only flashed his gun and then, realizing he had no chance to shoot, immediately holstered it.

This was a silent battle between three experts, with Cupid initially being utterly defeated, but ultimately achieving a complete victory.

Like a fox caught in a trap, already having stepped into a bear trap, yet under the hunter’s watch, it magically pulled its leg out from the trap right before the jaws snapped shut.

And then it strutted away.

After finding a third person for cover and before completely blending into the crowd, Cupid and Yang Yi exchanged a deep look.

There was no anger, no intent to kill, no regrets in Cupid’s eyes, only deep confusion and bewilderment.
