Chapter 1022: Chapter 1027: Let Me Go

Inside Yang Yi’s luxurious mansion, both Ferguson and Yang Yi muttered curses under their breath, but for different reasons; Yang Yi was excited, while Ferguson was filled with envy, jealousy, and resentment.

Ferguson’s car was loaded with a lot of stuff, all the equipment they would need. As each precise and sturdy storage box was brought down, Yang Yi’s heart swelled with excitement and emotion.

Although Yang Yi was very wealthy, how could even the richest tycoon compare to a country? Yang Yi was willing to spend money on equipment, but the equipment that Ferguson brought didn’t cost a dime.

As for Ferguson, his mentality began to falter when he passed through Yang Yi’s garage. By the time he entered Yang Yi’s mansion, his mentality was not just unbalanced, it was completely out of whack.

In the living room, Yang Yi, as the host, went to the bar and grabbed a bottle of wine, then took two glasses.

"I try not to drink alcohol. Do you have any other drinks? Coffee, tea, or even soda would be fine."

Yang Yi shrugged and said, "I just moved in, so I don’t have any drinks other than alcohol."

He put down the glasses, poured some wine for Ferguson and himself, and then Yang Yi said with a smile, "What should we talk about? Hmm, let’s talk about the mission. What do you know?"

Ferguson replied expressionlessly, "I know what needs to be done, but I’ll listen to your instructions on how to do it."

He picked up his glass and sniffed the rim, then downed half a glass of whiskey in one go. Then he put down the glass and said to Yang Yi, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"When you stepped back and lost your balance, was that a well-designed trap, or a trap you decided on the spur of the moment?"

Ferguson was clearly still brooding over his last defeat.

Yang Yi chuckled and said, "That was obviously... What do you think?"

Ferguson was taken aback, then tried to remain calm as he said, "I guess it was just luck!"

"It could be said to be luck."

Yang Yi wasn’t going to play by Ferguson’s tune, but seeing Ferguson on the verge of exploding, and knowing that bantering further would lead to a fight, he smiled slightly and said, "Just kidding, how could it be luck? Here’s what happened: I was paying close attention while we were in a standoff, so I set up that trap, waiting for you to attack so I could take my chance. If you fell for it, I would win in one go, if not, we would continue the fight. But as an expert, how could you not fall for it? Haha."

Ferguson let out a long sigh and said in a low voice, "It was indeed a well-designed trap. I have no excuse for my loss."

Yang Yi laughed heartily and said, "I was worried you would ask for a rematch."

"If there’s a chance, why not?"

Ferguson was older than Yang Yi and had more experience, but now he had to follow Yang Yi’s commands. Yang Yi was psychologically prepared for this, even though Ferguson was not willing to take orders from him.

Now it seems that no matter what Ferguson truly feels, at the very least, he is behaving extremely professionally.

There’s no point in probing further; Ferguson is exhibiting professionalism, and Yang Yi knows when to take a hint. He picks up the bottle of wine and pours some more into Ferguson’s glass, then says in a deep voice, "What are your thoughts on our mission?"

Ferguson lifts his glass and empties it in one go, then replies nonchalantly, "There are many ways to break an engagement, but our mission has many constraints. We can only make the engaged couple cancel it themselves, or force them to do so under pressure. Considering it’s a political marriage, the chances of them calling it off voluntarily are slim. The only other way would involve a tremendously scandalous affair."

Yang Yi nods and says, "Continue."

"The probability of a voluntary cancellation is slim, and there are far too many possibilities when it comes to scandal-driven cancellations. It’s highly manageable, but... no matter what we do, the traces of someone manipulating the situation behind the scenes are too obvious."

Ferguson lets out a sigh, spreading his hands, "If it were up to me, I would start with Carlson. It’s easy to make a man slip up as long as we have evidence. We could fabricate an entertainment news story, but such a scheme would show too much."

"Yes, we can’t let it be recognized that we’ve interfered. Why must there be such excessive demands? Such a hassle."

Yang Yi vents casually and then picks up the wine bottle again to pour half a glass for Ferguson. Just as he is about to speak, he pauses, surprised as Ferguson lifts his glass and downs it once more.

"Buddy, can’t you let the wine linger in your glass a little longer?"

Ferguson exhales and says, "I enjoy drinking, not because I’m a drunkard - I can control myself. But... I really find it hard to resist not drinking when there’s wine in my glass."

Yang Yi takes a sip from his own glass, then smiles and asks, "So, what do you think we should do?"

Ferguson looks at Yang Yi and comments, "Targeting the woman is generally not my first choice, making a woman fall deeply in love with someone, willing to abandon everything, is incredibly difficult. But our mission this time is troublesome, and the hardest approach might just be the simplest."

"Make Petra fall in love with one of us?"

Ferguson glances at Yang Yi and shakes his head, "Of course not, that would be a waste of time. As long as we can get her into bed and leak a few photos and videos or the like, then everything is settled. As long as there are no obvious traces left behind, it’s impossible not to have any evidence of backstage manipulation."

Ferguson pauses as he picks up his glass again and says, "If a man makes a mistake, it’s easy to be forgiven, whether by his fiancée or the public. But if a woman slips up, especially with a man other than her fiancé, haha, as soon as it’s exposed, the marriage is over. Pour me another."

Yang Yi simply pushes the bottle towards Ferguson, then smiles and says, "That’s a rather ruthless move, but indeed the simplest method."

Ferguson fills his glass to the brim with whiskey and empties it contentedly after one gulp, exhaling with satisfaction. Then he reluctantly pushes the bottle back and says, "I shouldn’t drink any more, or I’ll pass out."

Yang Yi smiles and says, "I’ve got Petra’s information, shall we go over it together?"

Ferguson, a bit flushed in the face, chuckles and replies, "Sure, let’s have a look. To be honest, dealing with a woman is far more intriguing. Constantly surveilling a man is boring, but watching a beautiful woman - that’s much more pleasurable, isn’t it?"

Yang Yi responds indifferently, "Do you often observe people?"

Ferguson looks at Yang Yi, then with a face of helplessness, says, "You don’t even know what I’m good at, and you brought me here. Buddy, compared to surveilling someone, I’d rather take them out. I like being in war-torn areas, not..."

Suddenly, Ferguson stops talking. Then, leaning forward slightly, he says gravely, "Buddy, if you brought me here for revenge, then can you, considering my cooperation, let me go back after this mission is over? Can you?"
