Chapter 1062: One thousand and sixty, encounter
Mo Shaoze drove the car with a few people out of the school and headed toward the city center. "The changes in the country over the past few years have been significant. People’s economic conditions have improved, and life has become better and better." Previously, he’d been preoccupied with his son’s matters and hadn’t had much interest in discussing such things.
"It will only get better in the future," Luo Shu said. Being part of the new generation, she naturally had a good understanding of the country’s development.
"Exactly. In the past, all we had were black-and-white TVs. Now, not only are televisions in color, but their sizes keep getting bigger and bigger. Cars used to be something that very few people could afford, but nowadays, more and more people are buying them. And have you seen those ’brick-sized’ mobile phones? Sure, they’re heavy and clunky, but communication with them is incredibly convenient," Mo Shaoze said with a smile. Since Lu Hanmo and Luo Shu had been away for so many years, they were surely unfamiliar with the advancements back home.
As they chatted, they arrived at Huangjin Street, the most famous street in Jinchen. Compared to six years ago, Huangjin Street had undergone tremendous changes. Towering buildings rose everywhere, and many foreign restaurants had set up shop here. Coffee shops and international dining spots could be seen throughout the area.
"Dad, can I have a steak?" Mo Yikai asked. Despite being a bit mischievous, he was commendable in other aspects.
"It’s Uncle Lu and Aunt Lu treating us today, so you should ask them for permission," Mo Shaoze said with a smile, rubbing Mo Yikai’s head. He didn’t consider it impolite for children to inquire or express their wishes to others; on the contrary, it helped cultivate their social and decision-making abilities.
Mo Yikai nodded, then looked over at Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo. "Uncle Lu, Aunt Lu, may I have steak?"
"Of course!" Luo Shu nodded with a smile. After spending some time with Mo Yikai, she found him to be a very well-mannered child.
"Thank you, Aunt Lu!" Mo Yikai said with a cheerful grin. His mother had taught him to say thank you whenever someone agreed to his requests and to remain composed even in the face of rejection. At first, he hadn’t understood, but after trying it a few times, he began to grasp the concept.
The group entered a foreign restaurant, where a waiter guided them to their table.
Perhaps due to lingering traditional preconceptions, there weren’t many diners in the foreign restaurant.
After everyone ordered a steak and a beverage, they started chatting.
In the restaurant, soft music played in the background. Luo Shu caught a familiar voice, and the corners of her lips curled into a subtle smile. Wang Fei had truly become a sensation now. She hadn’t seen her in ages and wondered how she was doing. The same went for Mu Wan and Chen Xiaomeng.
While she was lost in thought, a familiar figure passed by the restaurant window.
Luo Shu’s gaze lit up with a hint of surprise. Well, wasn’t that an uncanny coincidence—she had just been thinking of them when she spotted Xiaomeng.
Chen Xiaomeng hesitated for a moment at the restaurant’s entrance before finally stepping inside.
She scanned the room attentively and quickly located the person she was looking for.
Luo Shu initially thought Chen Xiaomeng had spotted her and was about to wave, only to notice that Xiaomeng’s gaze had shifted elsewhere—to a pair seated in the corner who were quietly whispering to each other.
Moments later, Luo Shu watched as Chen Xiaomeng walked directly toward that couple in the corner.
"Tian Fengjun, you’ve really outdone yourself!" Chen Xiaomeng glared furiously at the snuggled couple. The man was her husband of three years, introduced to her back then by one of her mother’s old friends.
When they first met, Chen Xiaomeng hadn’t been particularly fond of Tian Fengjun. But, Tian Fengjun had treated her genuinely well. He would pick her up and drop her off at work every day. When she was sick with fever, he’d stay by her side, feed her medicine, and monitor her temperature. Gradually, she became moved and agreed to marry him.
After marriage, they started their business together. She invested all her savings to establish a pharmaceutical company. Thanks to Luo Shu’s Tenglong Group connection, the company’s operations prospered smoothly and, in just two or three short years, rose to become the domestic industry leader.
Chen Xiaomeng worked tirelessly to build their enterprise, while Tian Fengjun supported and helped her behind the scenes, further deepening her love and trust for him. She shared nearly everything with him, including the company’s account passwords, without reservation.
Recently, she’d successfully negotiated a significant order and was preparing to transfer funds through the bank. However, she was informed by the bank that her account lacked the necessary balance. It felt like a bolt from the blue—besides herself, the only person with access to the account was Tian Fengjun.
At that moment, she was enraged and wanted to divorce him immediately. But thinking about their three-plus years of relationship, she decided to give him a chance to explain. Yet all she got in return was this.
"Since you’ve caught me, there’s no need for explanations. This is how it is. When we get back, let’s sign the divorce papers," Tian Fengjun said indifferently. He had long grown tired of her. She was always either eating or working, with no semblance of femininity. Most of the company funds and assets had already been transferred by him. Once divorced, he could regain his freedom sooner and no longer have to sneak around like this.
Of course, he was also aware that Chen Xiaomeng had a highly influential friend rumored to be connected to the Lu family, the foremost family in Jinchen. But even after several years of marriage, he had never seen this friend. Evidently, this friend didn’t value her much.
"You! You!" Chen Xiaomeng trembled with anger and grabbed the wine glass from the table, splashing its contents toward Tian Fengjun.
"Ugh! How could you do that?! So uncivilized. No wonder Fengjun doesn’t like you," the woman seated with Tian Fengjun shrieked coquettishly.
Tian Fengjun stood up and, raising his hand, swung it toward Chen Xiaomeng.
"Ah!" The next moment, he let out a pig-like wail of agony.
Only then did everyone notice a gleaming foreign steak knife embedded in the palm of his hand, bright red blood spurting from the wound.
"Ah!" The woman next to him turned pale with fright upon seeing the knife in his hand and screamed hysterically.
Chen Xiaomeng stared blankly at Tian Fengjun’s injured hand. What just happened?
