Chapter 44: Chapter 44 I will work very hard
Fu Shiyan was taken aback by the question, as he often found himself unable to catch up with An Yan’s remarks.
Clearing his throat, he said earnestly, "Each has its own merits, it all depends on personal preference."
With a giggle, An Yan moved a small step closer to him, her lotus arm lightly touching the man’s sleeve-clad arm, "The key is, I’m not the one who gets to decide this!"
Despite his stoic expression in the face of the girl’s flirting, Fu Shiyan felt a tinge of pleasure in his heart.
Bai Qinghan leaned in, "Brother Yan, I want the sweet and sour flavor. An Yan, I’m telling you, Brother Yan’s cooking skills are good enough to start a restaurant on the spot."
Curious, An Yan asked, "Is it that delicious?"
Fu Shiyan explained, "Stir-fried with sour bamboo shoots, fermented black beans, chilies, and minced garlic, the sour, sweet, salty, spicy, and aromatic flavors are perfectly blended into the roasted fish—it’s very flavorful."
An Yan nodded, her smile growing, "Then I’ll have both the spicy and the sweet and sour flavors, only by tasting both can I achieve perfection. Younger Uncle, make sure you grill with effort."
The word ’effort’ was emphasized with a heavy tone, deepening the color in Fu Shiyan’s eyes as he looked towards her.
An Yan, still with an innocent look, spoke words that tickled the heartstrings.
Fu Shiyan looked down and sprinkled some seasoning, "Don’t worry, I’ll put in a lot of effort."
Listening to the man’s enchanting and honest voice, An Yan felt the flirtation turn back on her.
She stood silently by Fu Shiyan’s side, helping him grill fish, skewered meat, and chicken wings, among other things.
Even without speaking, the atmosphere between the two was harmonious and cordial, as if the unpleasantness from before had never happened.
Suddenly, as Bai Qinghan was coming back with fruit juice, he felt a sharp pain underfoot and ended up spilling the juice on An Yan’s white long dress.
Seeing the white dress stained with orange marks, Fu Shiyan frowned.
"Damn it! That hurts like hell! What the heck?!" Bai Qinghan exclaimed, collapsing onto the sand.
An Yan didn’t care about her soiled dress and rushed to see what had happened.
It turned out Bai Qinghan’s right pinky toe had been clamped by a crab’s pincer.
An Yan almost wanted to laugh, but seeing Bai Qinghan’s pained expression, she held it in.
She advised, "Don’t shake it too hard, it’ll only tighten the grip. I’ll help you to the sea, the crab will naturally let go once it hits the water."
Just as An Yan was about to help Bai Qinghan up, Fu Shiyan knelt down, "I’ll help him."
Bai Qinghan felt Fu Shiyan was seriously lacking awareness, completely ruining his chance for intimate contact with his crush.
Helpless and unable to dissent in front of An Yan, he had no choice but to let Fu Shiyan help him up and hop towards the sea.
The crab let go as soon as its pincers touched the water.
With the pain in his foot somewhat alleviated, Bai Qinghan took a deep breath, "Brother Yan, next time something like this happens, don’t get involved. You just ruined my chance to have contact with An Yan."
Fu Shiyan hooked up the corner of his mouth and replied, "Fine."
Bai Qinghan furrowed his brows, "Right, Brother Yan, Fu Chenyu is planning to get engaged to An Yan, what do you think?"
Fu Shiyan’s eyes cooled slightly, "As long as An Yan isn’t willing, no one can force her."
"With your word, I’m relieved," Bai Qinghan muttered as he hopped on one leg, cursing, "That crab must be blind, why didn’t it go and clamp that douchebag Fu Chenyu..."
Fu Shiyan helped Bai Qinghan to a beach chair, and a crowd gathered around to catch a glimpse of his toe bleeding from the crab pinch.
Si Heng clicked his tongue, "Bai got it bad, he needs some medicine on that."
An Yan nodded, "I’ll go back to the hotel for the first aid kit; I need to change my dress anyway."
Su Yue offered, "Then I’ll go with you."
"No need, you better eat the fish while it’s hot." An Yan turned to Fu Shiyan, "Younger Uncle, grill me two more, one spicy and one sweet and sour."
Fu Shiyan casually acknowledged with, "Alright."
An Yan lifted her dress and walked towards the castle hotel behind the coconut grove. Just then, she caught sight of a familiar figure. She saw An Yirou hiding behind a coconut tree, looking to the front left as if eavesdropping on something.
Following her gaze, An Yan saw Fu Chenyu talking to Zhou Zhan.
Zhou Zhan seemed to reluctantly accept something Fu Chenyu passed to him from his pocket, with a troubled yet obligated look on his face.
An Yan narrowed her eyes, hiding in the shadows.
Before long, An Yirou turned around and ran off, her eyes bloodshot and her teeth clenched in frustrated unwillingness.
After the three of them had left, An Yan headed towards the hotel.
She went back to change into another skirt and retrieved the medicine box.
Si Heng was tending to Bai Qinghan’s wounds, "It’s such a pity, there’s a masquerade tonight, and you can’t attend."
Bai Qinghan’s mouth twitched furiously, "Damn it! That damned crab! Where’s An Yan? She was just here eating, wasn’t she? Where did she go?"
Si Heng packed up the medicine box and shrugged, "Haven’t seen her. You lie down for a bit, I’ll get you some roasted wings."
He stood up and glanced in the direction of the beach, his lips curving into a smile.
As the sun set and dusk gradually stained the sky, the footprints on the beach became less distinct.
An Yan spread her arms and ran on the beach, when suddenly, she lost her balance and fell.
The man not far behind ran over and crouched down, "Did you hurt yourself falling?"
An Yan abruptly wrapped her arms around his neck, her voice muffled, "Younger Uncle, it hurts."
"Where did it hurt when you fell?"
"My mouth, could you blow on it to make it better?"
Bathed in the silvery moonlight, Fu Shiyan looked at the girl’s porcelain white face, a sly smile playing across it, "Hurt your mouth? Didn’t you just eat mud?"
An Yan huffed, "Younger Uncle, you’re calling me a dog, I’m not talking to you anymore."
Fu Shiyan chuckled lightly, pinching her chin and leaning in.
The soft breeze blew as An Yan’s eyelashes trembled, gazing up at the man’s face that captivated all.
Their noses touched, the warmth of their breath intertwining around each other.
"Does it still hurt?"
An Yan felt her legs go weak from the teasing, even though she had started it.
"It still hurts. Endorphins are a great anesthetic, and the hormones produced by kissing have the same effect as a painkiller pill. Younger Uncle, would you help me out?"
Fu Shiyan thought of the softness of her lips, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he tilted his head and kissed her.
Just as their lips touched, an untimely voice reached their ears.
"An Yan, is that you?"
The romantic atmosphere dissipated, and the two immediately parted, with An Yan springing to her feet.
Bai Qinghan limped over, "So you’re here! Is Brother Yan here too?"
Fu Shiyan also slowly stood up, "An Yan said she wanted to come over here, and as it got darker, I followed."
"There’s a masquerade party in a bit, and I was wondering if you’d want to go."
An Yan thought to herself, how could she miss the chance to make certain people pay if she didn’t go?
On her way back to the hotel, she just happened upon hearing about the masquerade, which Fu Chenyu had arranged.
Piecing together the scene she witnessed among the coconut trees with the words of Fu Chenyu, An Yan could naturally guess what he intended to do.
She nodded, "I haven’t attended one before, so it might be interesting to see."
Bai Qinghan looked at Fu Shiyan, "Brother Yan, then could you look after An Yan later? My leg’s not quite fit now."
Fu Shiyan hummed softly in agreement, "Okay."
An Yan whispered, "Younger Uncle, did it look like we were having an affair just now?"
Fu Shiyan laughed softly, "So young, and yet you dare to say anything?"
An Yan’s eyes curved into smiles, "These words, I only say to you."
Bai Qinghan watched as they whispered to each other, and called out, "An Yan, come and help me."
Fu Shiyan pretended not to hear his call, striding forward, "I’ll help you."
Bai Qinghan: "..." Thank you very much!
