Chapter 404: Chapter 404: The Devil Among Angels
Ruan Qingqing awoke to find herself immobile.
In the dim light, she scanned her surroundings, only to realize she was lying on a wooden table, her hands and feet bound to its four corners with hemp rope.
The place was filled with a cold, damp mustiness, and there was a faint odor of blood.
Her gaze suddenly fell upon the sharp hooks hanging from the ceiling, and cold sweat began to seep from her brow.
She had a suspicion, someone had captured her to subject her to extrajudicial torture.
It must be Mu Anyan, a woman who seemed harmless on the surface but whose heart was filled with treachery and resolve to kill.
At the banquet, having the police take her away was just for show, to make everyone believe she was a law-abiding citizen who would not seek personal revenge. In reality, she was a midnight butcher, a devil in the guise of innocence!
She cried out in terror, "Mu Anyan, come out! You’ve secretly captured me to torture me, haven’t you?"
She yelled for a long time, but no one responded.
Eventually, she stopped calling, choosing to conserve her strength.
Suddenly, the temperature around her began to drop.
Her nurse outfit offered no resistance whatsoever; goosebumps erupted across her skin, and she trembled uncontrollably.
Until her teeth started to chatter, and then abruptly, the temperature soared, coating her body with a layer of sticky sweat.
Ruan Qingqing understood then, the goal was to torment her.
She had just undergone an abortion operation, pregnant with a heavy pain in her lower abdomen, and now, subjected to repeated torture, her body felt incredibly weak.
With a creak, the door opened, and a figure walked in.
Ruan Qingqing looked toward the slowly approaching person and gradually made out his face.
"Fang Zhou! It’s you! Mu Anyan sent you, right? Let me go, and I’ll turn myself in!"
Fang Zhou pulled over a chair and sat down leisurely, crossing his legs before lighting a cigarette.
He took his time, drawing smoke in and out, tilting his head back slightly as a plume of smoke rose lazily into the air.
He ignored Ruan Qingqing’s words, speaking indifferently, "Who told you to provoke her."
Ruan Qingqing realized this man wouldn’t let her off easily—it was purely for revenge on behalf of Mu Anyan.
She said, "You like Mu Anyan, don’t you? What, did I hit a nerve? If you like her, then compete for her! Release me, and we can work together. That way, you get Mu Anyan, and I get Fu Shiyan, how about it?"
Fang Zhou pinched out the cigarette between his fingers and narrowed his eyes, "Do you think everyone is like you, without conscience, without honor, without shame? Anyan is my junior sister; I treat her like a sister, not with the same filthy thoughts you’re imagining."
"It’s not possible! There’s no need to be embarrassed to admit that you have feelings for Mu Anyan! There’s no one else here, speaking the truth won’t worry about others hearing..."
Fang Zhou huffed lightly, "You don’t need to try to drive a wedge between us; that trick won’t work on me. Do you know why you were brought here?"
Ruan Qingqing watched as the man stood up and advanced toward her step by step, feeling like a fish on the chopping block, defenseless to the will of others.
"You’re a doctor, meant to treat and heal, not to harm me."
Fang Zhou found her words amusing and he bent over laughing, "Oh really? Well, I’m not exactly a good doctor! Have you ever heard of the Gem Blood Case?"
Ruan Qingqing’s eyes widened in shock; she had certainly heard of this blood case that had shocked the world.
The incident had taken place two years ago in Country D.
It all started with five thugs who raped an eight-year-old girl walking home from school.
The little girl’s uterus ruptured, leading to heavy bleeding on the spot.
Those five thugs, fearing the little girl might not die, added kicks and punches to her injuries. The most fatal blow was when her head was smashed with a rock, fracturing her skull.
The body was found in a garbage dump.
During the autopsy, the coroner cried, finding that the girl’s lower body had been stuffed with branches and other foreign objects, piercing her womb.
The case caused a huge sensation.
But since there was no death penalty in Country D, the five thugs were sentenced and released after just four months.
Thinking their wealth entitled them to do whatever they wanted, they assaulted another nine-year-old girl the day after their release. Naturally, the girl didn’t die, but she suffered lifelong injuries and was condemned to live with a bag for excretion.
Tortured in body and spirit, the little girl couldn’t endure the pointed fingers and prying eyes of the people and eventually leaped to her end from the seventeenth floor, ending her young life.
The five thugs got off with their money, not even a day in jail.
It was when everyone thought the murderers would get off scot free, without a trace of justice, that the Gem Blood Case happened.
All five thugs died unnatural deaths.
Their corpses, a shocking sight indeed, heads paired with dog bodies, were displayed at the entrance of the local police station.
A sign stood at the door, reading: "The Judgment of Justice."
The case drew intense attention from the public and media, and the creator of the Gem Blood Case was hailed as an avatar of justice.
With the police provoked and the government losing credibility, a nationwide manhunt was launched for the murderer.
However, no traces of the killer were found, and to this day, they remain at large.
Ruan Qingqing looked at the man in front of her with great fear, for who would bring up such a blood-chilling case without reason?
"Are... are you the murderer?"
Fang Zhou’s lips curled up, "Am I the murderer? But everyone says I’m an angel! Do you know what those pieces of scum went through?"
Ruan Qingqing cursed out loud, "Madman! You’re just a madman!"
Fang Zhou turned and walked to a rack, putting on a pair of brand-new, white gloves. He placed all the necessary instruments into the tray, checked that nothing was omitted, and then moved to the operating table.
"Next, I’ll demonstrate what they experienced."
(Fang Zhou’s actions do not represent the author’s; do not imitate or learn from them!!!)
Fang Zhou picked up a syringe, drawing up a measure of liquid, "Don’t be afraid, look how kind I am, I’m even giving you anesthesia."
Ruan Qingqing struggled, but it was useless. After a hoarse scream, she watched the liquid from the syringe injected into her vein.
Fang Zhou glanced at his wristwatch, "Five minutes, and we’ll begin. Anything you want to say before you fall asleep?"
Ruan Qingqing opened her mouth but found she could say nothing.
Fang Zhou smiled warmly, "Alright then, let’s start by making spicy chicken feet."
Ruan Qingqing watched the gleam of the scalpel flash before her eyes and then lost consciousness as her eyelids grew too heavy.
When she woke up again, she felt as though she could move her right arm; she lifted it slowly, her eyes widening in horror.
Only the bones of her right hand and forearm remained, the flesh completely shaved off.
Fang Zhou walked in, "Did this hand stab An Yan, or did it smash her head with a rock? No matter, if it wasn’t this one, we’ll shave the other. Oh, and I’m in a bad mood right now, I don’t feel like giving you anesthesia. Ready? Let’s begin."
The first rays of dawn lit the half-basement room, and Fang Zhou’s lips sketched a wicked smile.
"Ruan Qingqing, you could have chosen Heaven but you stormed into Hell. Our game has just begun."
