Chapter 252: Chapter 252: Shiyan, your third sister-in-law is here to see you
Mu Family manor.
An Yan rarely slept in, having been quite tense recently.
When she opened her eyes, there was an empty space beside her.
She reached out to touch it, finding the sheets ice-cold, realizing that Fu Shiyan must have gotten up a while ago.
She slowly got up, supporting her belly, and took her cell phone from the bedside table to send him a message.
[The babies are awake!]
fsy: [The big baby or the little babies?]
An Yan replied with a smile, [The big baby is awake, and the little babies have started moving too!]
fsy: [I am in the study handling some documents, coming now.]
After getting out of bed and freshening up, An Yan saw Fu Shiyan walking in with a tray.
He glanced at An Yan, "Mom made Eight-Treasure Porridge, and also fried your favorite rice cake."
An Yan walked over and leaned against him, hugging his arm, "Ayan, I feel so happy right now."
Fu Shiyan rubbed her cheek gently, "I feel very happy too, having you and the children. And in eight weeks, we’ll see them."
An Yan looked down, "Normally, 37 weeks is considered full term, but I’m carrying twins, so it’s very likely I’ll deliver early. So if it’s early, then it might just be five more weeks."
Fu Shiyan placed his hands on her belly, "I am looking forward to that day’s arrival, yet also a bit scared of it.
An Yan asked, "Why?"
Fu Shiyan sighed, "Giving birth is like walking through the gates of hell for women. Seeing you in pain hurts my heart as well."
"Oh, it’s fine. The babies aren’t that heavy, and it won’t be too tough for me during childbirth," An Yan said with a smile, squeezing the man’s handsome chin, "Don’t worry, okay?"
Fu Shiyan nodded, "Okay. Let’s eat first, then go for the fetal heartbeat monitoring."
"Okay."
Lately, An Yan had developed a craving for fried rice cakes, particularly the sweet and sour kind, paired with a bowl of sweet and glutinous Eight-Treasure Porridge—it was simply a heavenly delight.
After breakfast, they changed and went downstairs.
Seeing Fu Shiyan with the tray, Nanny Guo quickly went over to take it from him.
Xu Wanqing walked in with a basket of roses, "Are you heading to the hospital now?"
An Yan nodded, "After the fetal heartbeat monitoring and checking the fetal position, we’ll come back."
"Okay, drive safely."
Fu Shiyan smiled lightly, "You can count on us."
An Yan glanced at the roses, "Mom, I’ll come back and make fresh flower cakes with you later."
Xu Wanqing laughed and agreed, "But hadn’t you gotten a bit tired of those? Why do you want them again today?"
An Yan thought about saying it was Jinqiao who liked them, but decided to keep it as a surprise for now.
"Just felt like having them today."
"Alright then, I’ll wash the petals first," Xu Wanqing saw them off in the car, watching it turn out of the carved gate before going back.
They arrived at the hospital, already familiar with the place.
After a series of exams, the fetal heart rate monitoring came back fine, and both babies were in the correct head-down position.
The doctor estimated they would likely go into labor at around 37 or 38 weeks.
Listening to this, Fu Shiyan’s expression became particularly grave.
If the doctor’s prediction held, that meant they had just five more weeks before they would say hello to their babies.
An Yan laughed at his expression, "Why are you so nervous about me having the babies?"
Fu Shiyan held her hand, "Being a father for the first time, I can’t help but fear I might not do well."
An Yan squeezed his hand, "You’ll definitely be a great dad. The babies already love it when you tell stories in the womb, and they’ll surely love it once they’re out as well."
Fu Shiyan spoke seriously, "I will try my best."
An Yan laughed out loud, "So silly!"
Fu Shiyan embraced her and walked slowly forward, "Walk slowly, I’m a bit worried it might just come out while we’re walking."
An Yan: "..."
The couple then went to the maternity store and bought some prenatal necessities, as well as clothes and pants for the baby.
Fu Shiyan had the full look of a dad-to-be, after all, he was a distinguished graduate from the new parents training class.
There was one time he bathed a dummy baby too vigorously and sent it flying out of the tub.
At that time, the instructor was quite shocked, repeatedly emphasizing that the baby’s skin was delicate and should only be gently rubbed, definitely not scrubbed like an adult’s.
Thankfully, Fu Shiyan took it seriously and even earned the honorary title of outstanding dad.
The two returned to Mu Family manor around noon.
Xu Wanqing herself cooked eight dishes, each one being An Yan’s favorite.
An Yan looked at the mountainous pile of food on her plate, took a deep breath, and ate with all her might.
Because she had been thinking that there was a high chance the child would come a couple of weeks early, she thought of eating more to make them a bit plumper and stronger.
After the meal, An Yan and Xu Wanqing made fresh flower cakes while Fu Shiyan went to his study to handle some documents.
He thought that since An Yan was due soon, he should hurry and get the paperwork done so he could relax when the time came.
While wrapping the fresh flower cakes, Xu Wanqing sighed, "Your third brother has been gone for several days now, I don’t know if he’s managed to win Jinqiao back yet. Has he contacted you?"
An Yan shook her head, "No contact."
This wasn’t a lie; Mu Qianfan indeed hadn’t contacted her, it had been Fu Jinqiao who had reached out.
The young girl was back to her chirpy self, excitedly telling her that Mu Qianfan was pursuing her, happy enough to feel on top of the world.
An Yan thought she was a bit at a loss herself; Fu Shiyan hadn’t really pursued her either. After she gave birth, she certainly intended to have him properly woo her at least once.
If once wasn’t enough, then twice, or thrice—as they were going to spend a lifetime together, however many times she said was right, right?
Xu Wanqing continued to sigh over on her side, "I really like Jinqiao, but this misunderstanding was too big. Qianfan is really silly, why doesn’t he just explain clearly? No, I need to make a phone call and ask."
Saying so, she picked up her mobile phone and dialed Mu Qianfan’s number.
An Yan didn’t stop her.
Just then, Xu Wanqing seemed to hear the ringing of a phone; she followed the sound and walked out of the kitchen, only to see two figures, one tall and one short, standing in the living room.
Fu Jinqiao ran over and hugged the woman’s arm, "Auntie, I’ve missed you so much!"
Xu Wanqing patted her hand, "It’s good that you’re back, good that you’re back."
She looked back at An Yan, "You already knew, so that’s why you had me pick roses this morning to make rose cakes for Jinqiao, right?"
An Yan walked over, "Just wanted to give you a surprise."
Xu Wanqing felt touched, "It really is quite a surprise."
She held Fu Jinqiao’s hand tightly, "This time when you’re back, don’t leave again. If Qianfan bullies you, Auntie will defend you."
Fu Jinqiao looked back at Mu Qianfan, "Third brother is pursuing me right now, he wouldn’t dare anger me."
Xu Wanqing laughed, "That’s right, he needs a good shake-up."
Mu Qianfan came over, hugged Xu Wanqing, "Am I really your own son?"
"No, Jinqiao is my dear daughter!"
Mu Qianfan laughed, "Next year I’ll marry her and bring her home."
Fu Jinqiao covered her mouth, giggling.
An Yan looked at her silly appearance and clicked her tongue, "Mom means, marry her quickly, she wants to hold a granddaughter."
Xu Wanqing held their hands and led them towards the kitchen, "Grandsons, granddaughters, they’re all great, I love them all."
After the fresh flower cakes were done, Fu Jinqiao specifically carried a plate to Fu Shiyan’s office.
When she knocked and peaked her head in, she grinned, "Shiyan, your third sister-in-law came to see you!"
Fu Shiyan frowned, "..."
