Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Estrangement

An Yan felt somewhat dazed; she had no idea where her destination was, she just kept driving.

Until the car reached the seaside.

With the window half down, the sea breeze carried a chill and whipped up her long hair.

Strands of hair stuck to her face itchily; she raised her hand to wipe them away, only to realize that her face was already streaked with tears.

Just because of deceit, she was so heartbroken.

An Yan thought, perhaps she was being too sentimental.

She got out of the car and walked along the shoreline.

She remembered that day she called Fu Shiyan, who said he was at the dock. She believed him, but later Han Yang accidentally let slip that Fu Shiyan wasn’t at the company at that time.

An Yan couldn’t help but wonder if that day he had also met with Mu Yingying.

Lately, he had been particularly clingy to her, could it be because he felt guilty?

An Yan sat on the beach, wrapping her beige windbreaker tighter around herself.

The weather in early-mid September was growing cooler, and the wind on her tear-streaked face felt crumpled.

An Yan sighed lightly and took out her mobile phone from her pocket.

Looking at the name ’Ayan’, she somewhat didn’t want to answer, but she still did.

"Yanyan, I miss you."

Do you really?

Is it guilt again?

If that was the case, she truly didn’t need it.

An Yan was silent for a moment, "Have you finished seeing the client?"

Fu Shiyan replied softly, "Finished."

"Where did you meet them?"

"At the Wanjiang Banquet, why?"

An Yan smiled, "It’s nothing, I thought you might have gone to Moon Restaurant."

"Do you want to eat Sister Tang’s pastries again?"

An Yan smiled faintly, "Not particularly."

"I’ll call Sister Tang and ask her to get the pastries ready. After work, we’ll go there for dinner and pick up the pastries on the way."

"Alright."

"I’ll come pick you up tonight; leave your car at the design studio."

"Okay."

After chatting for a few more sentences, they hung up the phone.

An Yan’s smile faded from her face as she gazed into the distance.

At this moment, she felt that her heart was colder than her body.

Fu Shiyan looked at the incoming message on his screen.

[Shiyan, do you truly want to forget me?]

[I gave my first time to you, do you really want to erase me completely from your life?]

Fu Shiyan replied: [I can’t give you a future, sorry.]

He promptly blacklisted and deleted Mu Yingying’s number.

He closed his eyes tightly, then regained his cold composure.

Soon, it was time to get off work.

Fu Shiyan came down to the parking garage and called An Yan, "Are you finished with your work? I’m coming to pick you up."

"Okay."

Over here, An Yan continued to draw her sketches, very focused.

Zhou Wenwen came over, "An Yan, it’s time to get off work."

An Yan looked up and smiled, "I know, there’s just a little bit left, I’ll leave in a moment."

Zhou Wenwen nodded, "You and President Su?"

"We’re both female with a preference for men, that was just a joke earlier. We are best friends."

Zhou Wenwen blushed slightly, "Though if you two were really that way, it would be quite a sight."

An Yan laughed, "That will never happen in this lifetime."

Zhou Wenwen made an agreeing noise, "Then I’m heading off first, bye."

"Bye."

Due to the rush hour after work, Fu Shiyan picked up An Yan forty minutes later.

He stood in front of the design studio door, and the moment he saw An Yan, he wrapped her in his arms.

"I’ve missed you so much."

An Yan blinked and half-jokingly said, "Did you do something to wrong me?"

A flicker of unease crossed the depths of Fu Shiyan’s eyes, "How could that be? I always abide by my principles."

"That’s good, let’s go."

Fu Shiyan embraced her and helped her into the car, fastening her seatbelt with meticulous care.

The two of them first went to Moon Restaurant.

Fu Shiyan ordered six dishes that An Yan loved.

Though An Yan loved to eat, her appetite wasn’t great; she only had a few bites of each dish.

"Why are you eating so little?"

"I’m on a diet," she replied.

"You’re perfectly fine as you are; what’s the need for a diet?" Fu Shiyan said, helping her to a piece of squirrel-shaped mandarin fish. "Eat more fish, so our baby will be smart in the future."

"There’s no baby in my stomach," An Yan retorted.

"There will be, sooner or later. Just consider it a practice run."

An Yan lowered her gaze, pondering as she looked at the fish on her plate.

"What’s wrong?" Fu Shiyan inquired.

An Yan shook her head and took a bite of the fish meat, "The fish is very tasty."

"But not as tasty as I am," Fu Shiyan quipped.

An Yan’s lips curved in a smile, but the joy didn’t reach her eyes.

After they finished eating, Sister Tang brought over four bags of pastries and instructed them to come back for them after finishing their meal.

The two drove to the movie theater.

Fu Shiyan bought popcorn and juice before taking An Yan’s hand and entering the screening room.

The film title for today was "I Once Forgot Those Ten Years."

It told the story of a couple in love, who, after living through the best three years of high school, four years of university, and three years of starting a business after graduation—a total of ten years—were ready to get married.

But on the eve of the wedding, the male lead was in a car accident and forgot the female lead.

At the same time, the male lead’s mother approached the female lead, hoping she would give up on her son, as he was now the president of a company and should marry a more outstanding woman.

The female lead was heartbroken, but she felt she couldn’t just give up on him; after all, she loved him.

Then, like a bolt from the blue, she received the devastating news that she had stomach cancer due to prolonged business entertainment with the male lead, irregular meals, and so on.

She felt like fate was deliberately against her.

She was desperate, but for the sake of the male lead, she agreed to let him go.

After leaving the hospital, the male lead fell in love with another woman and got married.

The female lead silently went through the last stage of her life, dying without a single relative by her side.

An Yan’s eyes filled with tears, and she wiped her nose.

She turned to look at Fu Shiyan and noticed his breathing was somewhat rapid.

"What’s wrong?"

Fu Shiyan realized his own lapse and shook his head, "Nothing, let’s go."

As they left the cinema and walked towards the exit, they unexpectedly ran into Mu Yingying and her friend.

Mu Yingying’s eyes sparkled with a smile, "An Yan, President Fu."

Her tone was polite and distant, perfectly measured.

An Yan thought to herself that if she hadn’t seen with her own eyes how Mu Yingying clung to Fu Shiyan, she might actually believe in her innocent smile.

Mu Yingying, seeing that neither of them spoke, didn’t feel awkward, "What film did you watch?"

An Yan’s smile was faint, "’I Once Forgot Those Ten Years.’"

Mu Yingying said to her friend, "Should we go watch that too? I heard it’s really emotional, how the male lead forgets the female lead he’s been in love with for years and marries someone else. The female lead is so pitiful." After saying that, her eyes swept over Fu Shiyan, intentional or not.

The friend said, "That’s just a scumbag move, and the female lead is silly too, she should fight for him!"

Mu Yingying sighed, "There must be many helplessnesses. Maybe one day the male lead will remember the female lead and be heartbroken."

She looked at An Yan, "Don’t you think so, An Yan?"

An Yan smiled, "What’s past is past, and one must always look forward. I think the female lead did nothing wrong; not to cling or disturb is indeed the most correct and intelligent choice."

An Yan was not foolish; she knew Mu Yingying was implying something.

In fact, she thought the female lead was foolish; she should go back to the male lead and try to retrieve their memories together, at least fighting for herself once.

But in the face of Mu Yingying, she just wanted to be contrary.

Mu Yingying’s lips twisted into a smirk, "What An Yan said makes sense. Does President Fu think the same?"

Fu Shiyan replied coldly, "Whatever Yanyan says is right. We have other things to attend to, so we’ll be leaving."

With that, he led An Yan away.

Mu Yingying’s smile vanished in an instant, and she watched as the two entered the elevator.

The friend asked, "Should I go buy the tickets?"

Mu Yingying responded with a smile, "Yue, I have other matters and can’t accompany you. I’ll treat you to the movie tickets and popcorn."

Though her friend was dissatisfied, the friend knew better than to offend the daughter of the Mu Family.

Mu Yingying drove away, feeling extremely pleased; she just wanted to flaunt herself before Fu Shiyan and An Yan.

It was because Fu Shiyan had blacklisted her.

She refused to believe that those past events carried no weight in Fu Shiyan’s heart.

Humming a tune, she drove straight ahead.

Suddenly, a figure dashed in front of her car.

Mu Yingying was startled and slammed on the brakes.

She hurried out to check, and when she recognized the woman’s face, she said coldly, "Are you insane?"
