Chapter 579: 570 Humble Girl’s Story of Rising up (6) 32nd Update
Ye Jinlan had truly had enough of her younger sister.
She had never given their family a moment’s peace from childhood to adulthood.
Today’s dinner was meant to celebrate her receiving a spot for studying abroad, yet she, out of the blue, took off on her own, causing her parents and relatives a night of worry. She returned as if nothing happened!
Sometimes, Ye Jinlan wondered if her sister, with neither the IQ nor the EQ of their family, was accidentally switched at the hospital.
If it were her, she wouldn’t bother going back to look.
But their dad and younger brother had eagerly gone back to search.
Isn’t this just to toy with them?
Before Ye Shaohua could say anything, Ye Jinlan had already launched into a tirade of scolding. All Shaohua did was look at Ye Jinlan with surprise, "I did tell Mom I was going to the restroom, but it was noisy with so many people. She might not have heard me."
Told Mom?
Ye Jinlan paused for a moment.
She didn’t pursue the matter further, as an elderly figure descended from a Bentley nearby, "You must be Sister Shaohua. I was in the private room next to yours, and when I was leaving, I noticed your sister was inadvertently left behind, so I brought her back."
That’s when Ye Jinlan realized that the car that brought Ye Shaohua home was an extravagant Bentley.
She had discussed this kind of car with her roommates at school. Ye Jinlan remembered they had just talked about this Bentley last week. Her roommate even remarked that just one of its wheels could take them a lifetime to afford.
Hence, Ye Jinlan had a deep impression of this car.
She had not expected it to appear before her at this moment.
"Thank you for bringing my sister back," Ye Jinlan forcefully restrained herself from gazing at the Bentley.
From the outside, one couldn’t see inside the car windows, but Ye Jinlan could make out the silhouette of a young man through the front windshield.
As she came back to her senses, she realized the implication in the Butler’s words, feeling a bit awkward.
It felt slightly mocking to describe a grown person as "accidentally left behind".
Once the car left,
Ye Jinlan turned to Ye Shaohua with a complex expression, "Who else was in the car just now, do you know them?"
"I don’t know them," Ye Shaohua shook her head and then turned to go back inside.
Ye Jinlan followed, "Why would they give you a ride?"
Regarding Shaohua’s claim not to know the people in the car, Ye Jinlan did not doubt it for a second; after all, it was difficult for families like theirs to have any contact with such individuals, let alone Shaohua, who didn’t even have many friends.
"The Butler just explained that they came across me alone," Ye Shaohua glanced at her.
Ye Jinlan pressed, not ready to give up, "Didn’t you take down their contact information? They drove you home, and you just got out of the car like that?"
"Big sister, have you forgotten that my phone was broken last month?" Ye Shaohua replied calmly.
Hearing this, Ye Jinlan suddenly stopped and said nothing more.
On her way upstairs, she took out her phone and called her father and Ye Fan, urging them to hurry back home.
When Ye Shaohua returned upstairs, their mother was tidying up the room.
"It’s good you’re back," she frowned at Ye Shaohua for a second, then shifted her gaze to Ye Jinlan, "Where are your dad and the others?"
"They’ll be back soon," Ye Jinlan responded.
"Go take a shower. You must be exhausted from the speech today." Ye’s mother brought out a set of clothes from her room for Ye Jinlan, "Wear this tomorrow. I went shopping with a colleague yesterday and she said this dress suits you."
Ye Jinlan accepted the clothes, "Thank you, Mom."
After receiving the clothes, she suddenly looked at Ye Shaohua, who wore no expression on her face.
Furrowing her brows, Ye Jinlan thought her little sister had a very odd temperament. She was aware of the parents’ differential treatment, but given her sister’s disposition, she didn’t feel like saying anything.
She decided to go shower.
Ye Shaohua went back to her own room without closing the door behind her — first, because she intended to shower soon, and second, because she heard that Ye Fan and their father had gone to look for her.
She decided to wait for their return before shutting the door.
After Ye Jinlan finished her shower, Ye Fan and their father returned.
Upon coming back, Ye Fan peeked into Shaohua’s room, relieved to see her reading at her desk.
In fact, he felt quite guilty.
He had been so engrossed discussing the math contest with Tian Yu that he lost track of Shaohua.
Never did he expect that they would leave Shaohua behind, only realizing something was amiss when they reached home.
He wished he had paid more attention.
"Xiaofan, come out for some watermelon," their mother called from outside.
Ye Fan responded and then said to Shaohua, still engrossed in her book, "Second sister, come out for some watermelon."
It was not late yet, and the Ye Family rarely slept so late.
But due to the day’s special events and no one feeling sleepy yet, they watched TV while chatting.
Ye Fan looked at his father, "Dad, aren’t you supposed to go fetch goods tomorrow?"
"Not anymore," their father’s brow furrowed as he brought up the topic, "The farmers market is being demolished. All the shops have moved out, and the supply has been greatly reduced lately."
Their father’s main job was to deliver goods for a wholesale company, primarily to that farmers market.
With the impending demolition, merchants had received the news and closed their shops to search for new locations.
As a result, their father’s orders had decreased significantly.
Less work implied a substantial cut in their father’s earnings.
His parents rarely spoke of work matters in front of their children.
"Shaohua, I need to save money for your sister to go abroad," since it was brought up, their mother continued, "We have no spare expenses, and about your phone..."
Ye Shaohua smoothly took over her mother’s words, "I’m about to take the college entrance exams, and after that, I’ll work to buy a new phone."
Their mother was about to suggest waiting a while longer before getting a new phone.
But upon hearing Shaohua’s response, she did not pursue it further. In reality, Ye’s mother would never allow Ye Jinlan to work for money, as Jinlan excelled academically and was expected to focus on her studies.
Any other day, if Ye Jinlan had been the one speaking, she would have refused, but the words came from her second daughter...
