Chapter 215: 214 Cold Palace Abandoned Concubine (12) Second Watch of the Night

Yuwen Jing knew that Ye Shaohua had always liked him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have taken an injury for him.

However, he looked down on her for blocking that blow for him, believing there would have been others willing to do the same.

Yet, now, seeing Ye Shaohua in such a state, he felt somewhat bewildered.

He was not unaware of how much Ye Shaohua had liked him in the past, willing to save him even at the risk of her status in the Imperial Palace.

Therefore, when Ye Shaohua spoke those words, he didn’t quite believe her.

Thinking of this, he looked at Ye Shaohua warmly, "Don’t worry, General Ye has made such great contributions. I won’t treat you unfairly. From now on, you will be the master of Yuehua Palace."

He thought about how he had already wronged the Ye Family; although he did not like Ye Shaohua, his aversion to her had somewhat lessened.

"No need," Ye Shaohua beckoned with her fingers, and the palace maid immediately understood, bringing over paper and ink. "If you truly feel grateful to my father, please release me from the palace. Rest assured, I won’t foolishly spread the word."

This palace maid had only been transferred to her service for an hour.

Yuwen Jing was surprised. How come the palace maid was so obedient to Ye Shaohua’s words?

However, seeing that Ye Shaohua had taken out the paper and ink, Yuwen Jing realized the firmness of her resolve, knowing she wasn’t just trying to provoke him, but truly wanted to leave the Imperial Palace.

Despite some guilt, Yuwen Jing knew he didn’t like Ye Shaohua.

So, without much hesitation, he quickly wrote down documents declaring that Ye Shaohua had no obligations toward him, granting her freedom, while Yuehua Palace would forever be reserved for her.

He even signed his name at the bottom.

After signing, he felt a sense of relief wash over him.

He would need to compensate the General Residence properly afterward. He decided he would visit the National Treasury later.

Yuwen Jing mused to himself, then gently pointed to the bottom part of the document and said to Ye Shaohua, "Sign your name..."

At that moment, Yuwen Jing suddenly remembered that almost everyone in the Ye Family was obsessed with martial arts, except for Ye Shaofeng. The rest could barely read.

They learned to read to study military texts more.

When General Ye submitted his remonstrations, it was done through someone else’s handwriting.

With this thought, Yuwen Jing considerately added, "You can also use a handprint..."

"One copy for each person, Your Majesty." Before he could finish, Ye Shaohua took up the brush and deftly wrote her name.

Seeing her sign her name, Yuwen Jing said nothing more, simply adding, "Rest for a few days and... in a couple of days, I will escort you back to the General Residence to see General Ye and your younger brother Shaofeng, who has suffered a minor injury."

Hearing that Ye Shaofeng had been hurt, Ye Shaohua looked up sharply, "How is my brother now?"

Yuwen Jing quickly tried to reassure her, "I’ve already sent most of the Imperial Physicians there; they say there’s no danger to young General Ye’s life."

As for the likelihood of being crippled, he didn’t dare to verbalize it.

With that said, Yuwen Jing found he could no longer stay. He stuffed the document establishing the agreement with Ye Shaohua into his pocket, without looking at the words written on it.

Knowing Ye Shaohua had always been self-conscious about her handwriting, he didn’t want to upset her at this moment.

After he left, Ye Shaohua pursed her lips, not resting right away but instead opened the window and snapped her fingers.

A sparrow flew in from outside, and she tied two characters to its body.

"If Yuwen Jing knew you could command even a little sparrow, he might regret tonight’s agreement to death," came a slightly cold voice from behind her.

Ye Shaohua was not at all surprised. She let the sparrow out the window, watching it fly away, before turning slightly to look at the other person, "Then are you going to tell him?"

"If he lacks vision, whose fault is that?" Yuwen Yunshi casually poured himself a cup of tea, the pristine white of his robe staining slightly with the pale yellow tea splash, but he was unconcerned.

Sporting a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, he said, "I thought you were foolish enough to make a wedding dress for someone else."

He seemed resentful about her previous actions, his tone tinged with sullenness.

Ye Shaohua didn’t bother to respond to him.

Yuwen Yunshi drank his tea leisurely, then threw a bottle of medicine to her, "This is medicine for regenerating flesh. Also, I’ve already sent a divine physician to look at your brother, so don’t worry. That maid of yours named Shuangyue, I had someone take her out of the palace a few days ago; she’s now at the General Residence."

After finishing, he reminded Ye Shaohua not to forget applying the medicine before he left through the window.

Ye Shaohua looked up to see only a glimpse of a snow-like robe.

Picking up the bottle on the table, Ye Shaohua uncorked it and took a sniff.

Then she poured out a bit of the powder onto her hand and pinched it.

The divine medicine had an invigorating fragrance, containing about sixteen ingredients; Ye Shaohua could identify fifteen but the last was a species she had never seen before, unique to this world.

Indeed, it was divine medicine for regenerating flesh, and its value was undoubtedly high in this world.

The extraction of these fifteen known ingredients would be incredibly difficult given the state of technology in this world.

Seeing the large bottle Yuwen Yunshi gave her, Ye Shaohua squinted slightly, wondering where he had plundered it from.

Although she could concoct superior medicine, she saw no use for it and simply bowed her head to let a palace maid come in to unwrap the bandage, then carefully dusted the powder on the wound.

The palace maid’s hand shook when she saw the bottle of medicine in Ye Shaohua’s hand, but fortunately, she recovered quickly.

Ye Shaohua noticed her maid’s reaction, but decided to ignore it.

Seeing that Ye Shaohua still had her head down, the palace maid breathed a sigh of relief and continued to carefully apply the medicine powder to the shallow wound.

The word "heartache" flashed in the eyes of the palace maid, bowed low.

Yet her hands did not slow, evidently understanding some pharmacology.

Meanwhile, Yuwen Jing left Yuehua Palace but did not go to Changchun Palace where the empress lived; instead, he headed for the Imperial Study Room.

Handling state affairs.

It was not until he returned that he remembered the document signed with Ye Shaohua remaining in his breast pocket.

He called for the head eunuch and instructed him to fetch a sandalwood box.

As the eunuch unfolded the paper, he saw the three characters at a glance and his normally nonchalant hand instantly tensed.

"Wait, don’t put it in the box yet. Hand the paper to me for a look," demanded Yuwen Jing, his eyes fixed on the sheet.
