Chapter 212: Flames Versus Electricity

BOOOOMMM!

The windows and several walls on the eighth floor of the Elder Church exploded outward. Sending rubble and glass flying through the air. On one side of the building the explosion was followed by plumes of flames that caught the edge of the building on fire. While on the other side, following the explosion bolts of lightning raised out of the building and into the air.

In the staircase, Uti and Elder Joza watched from a floor up as the door to the Eighth floor flew off its hinges and was followed by a bolt of lightning which blinded them for a moment and electrified the railing. The railing lit up with electricity for a moment. Going from a floor above them all the way down, lighting up the stairwell from the dark shadows that it had been plunged into earlier. Uti and Elder Joza exchanged a look before quickening their pace, heading to the roof with haste.

On the sixth floor the rest of the Cerberus squad was arriving at the command center. They moved in after giving Josef ample warning. As they entered Charlie and another went to help Josef with his injury while Ulin and Nila were particularly focused on the monitors looking for the cause of the building shaking violently earlier. What they found was a line of monitors that were just showing static. All they could think was: What was going on up there?

After his longsword clashed with Joash’s hammer he was thrown backwards from the collision of pressures. Jace spun the longsword and stabbed it into the ground to stop his backwards momentum. Moving to a crouching position as he cut through the ground for half a second. Resulting in a line damage to appear where he cut into the floor. Along the walls and pillars that were not destroyed were marked with scorch marks from the blue lightning that was coming off his body.

Most of the walls near the impact point had been destroyed. The only one that wasn’t was the one that was behind Joash. Joash had flown backwards and been slightly embedded in the wall but he was pulling himself up. While anything that was not anchored to the ground had been thrown around in the clash.

Jace pulled his sword out of the ground and dashed toward Joash as he pulled himself out of the wall. Deciding he had to adopt a different tactic than, he went low aiming to maim his enemy to make it easier to kill him.

Jace had just reentered the Elder Council room when Joash managed to pull himself out of the wall. Instead of aiming for Jace he swung his mechanized hammer in an arc in front of him.

Jace did not understand for a moment but then he could feel the heat and he jumped back just as the air crackled in front of him. The arc where Joash sung his hammer began dangerously as Jace could faintly hear the crackling like several tiny explosions. It was almost imperceptible to the human eye, but Joash had just lit up the air and turned it into a weapon.

Jace stood still for only a moment then he jumped back and tightened the muscles in his arms as he brought back his longsword. Then as he could hear a crackling over his shoulder where the longsword was raised he swung the sword.

His arm and the sword were a blur that ended in a half moon arc. For a moment it seemed like time slowed as there was an explosion of sound as he broke the sound barrier. Then a moment later a bright blue crescent moon arc cut through the air speeding towards Joash.

Joash slammed his hammer on the ground and used the force to propel himself upwards into the air. Doing a flip in the air that had him pulling his hammer up and coming towards the spot that Jace had momentarily stopped at.

Jace slammed his foot into the ground and moved to the side. There was an explosion of speed as he left a boot print in the ground. He moved backwards into the hallway standing right by the cut through the ground he had made.

The blue crescent moon arc slid through the wall and part of the roof because of its diagonal nature. Leaking in light from the outside, it slid through the wall and continued onwards.

Jace barely had a chance to glance at the result of his attack before he had to give Joash his undivided attention as he landed. After doing a flip in the air he slammed his mechanized hammer in the floor.

An explosion of fire emanated from the floor and it moved in a wave outward. Jace only had a moment to figure out how to avoid it as it was super heating everything it touched. Then Jace noticed that the wave of heat went right under Joash who was still coming down from his high flip. So he was not touching the ground at the moment the heat wave went under him.

Jace dashed off toward a pillar and launched himself at it. He then flew right through the air over a heatwave. Landing near Joash who had just landed on the ground. But then he twisted one of his hands on the hammer and as Jace closed in with his sword pushed forward he could tell the air was about to explode in front of him and cause damage to both him and the surroundings.

Jace slightly moved one of his feet to stop his forward momentum and move himself back. As he moved the longsword in a blocking position. All in the hope he could reduce the amount of damage he was about to receive.

But a moment later he was several feet back. He stopped moving and blinked in surprise as he processed what happened. Then he looked down at his foot and lifted his boot up to see electricity moving between his boot and the ground even when it was raised off the ground.

He just used electricity to eliminate friction and slid backwards. He looked at Joash who was just as confused. It was like he was sliding on ice but he could control the direction and speed. Unfortunately this new facet of his abilities had a drawback. He just moved so fast his brain could not keep up. He was going to have to slow himself down to use this new ability without an issue.
