Chapter 988: Mei Gongzi Enraged
Mei Gongzi suddenly looked up at Luo Qingzhu, and what she saw in her eyes was nothing but warmth. "Silly child, go ahead and do it. If it hadn't been for your little boyfriend, your father wouldn't have returned to my side. When he died back then, the Queen Consort died with him. Now that he's alive and he enjoys being part of humanity, then I will be his human wife. He's even the leader of humanity now, so what else can I do?"
"Thank you, Second Mother...." Mei Gongzi's eyes turned red as she opened her arms and gave Luo Qingzhu a big hug.
At that moment, the voice of the auction attendant echoed outside.
"One hundred thousand amethystine coins, VIP Room Eight."
Mei Gongzi stiffened instantly. The next second, she gritted her teeth and growled angrily, "It's that shit-stirrer again! Does he ever stop?!"
Indeed, the first bid had kicked the price up a massive step, from fifty thousand to a hundred. And to nobody's surprise, the one who had done it was none other than the newest spendthrift of the Ancestral Court, Jin Miaolin.
He actually felt somewhat fortunate at this point for creating this terrible reputation. He had bid for nearly every high-value item before, establishing an image of deep pockets, which meant his sudden bids on any item wouldn't appear out of place. And his bidding method had been consistent—raising the price immediately to thin out competition, then either quickly securing the item or withdrawing.
It could be said that the total proceeds from this Ancestral Court mega-auction exceeding expectations by far was, largely, due to him. It was he who had kept driving up the prices, making all the auction items shoot up in value.
So, when the Blue Gold Tree clan's clan leader—whom Mei Gongzi had now dubbed a "shit-stirrer"—struck again, starting with a bid of one hundred thousand amethystine coins, none of the bidders found it odd. It was just his style.
"One hundred one thousand amethystine coins, VIP Room Two."
A new challenger: the Scorching Sunflower clan had entered the fray.
This was the second-to-last item in the auction. There was no point hoarding money at this point; once the final two items were gone, it was over, so if it was something useful, now was the time to bid for it. And while this particular Emperor inheritance might not be usable, if it was, the return would be immeasurable. It was not something money alone could buy.
"One hundred two thousand, VIP Room Nine."
"One hundred three thousand, VIP Room Eleven."
Mei Gongzi finally couldn't hold back and placed a bid. But then...
"One hundred fifty thousand, VIP Room Eight."
The hall erupted.
Another jump of fifty thousand—and again from Room Eight! One hundred fifty thousand! A new record for the auction!
Are they insane? Has the Blue Gold Tree clan gone mad, or are they really that rich? One hundred fifty thousand amethystine coins for a... possibility?!
But if bidders considered things from the Blue Gold Tree clan's perspective, it actually made some sense. Spending that amount to buy a future for the clan? As long as they had the money, that was actually a wise move.
In VIP Room Eleven, Mei Gongzi's pretty face was flushed with anger. One hundred fifty thousand—that was the upper limit for what Kali City could afford, and the other side had reached it in just two steps. Wasn't this deliberately going against her?
Jin Miaolin, you piece of shit!
Mei Gongzi wanted to give up her spot in the knockout round and start from the preliminaries just for the chance to beat up the absolute bastard in Room Eight. There was no way that Blue Gold Tree brat could make it to the finals. She had to get a shot at him somehow.
Despicable! He's simply despicable!
On the auction platform, even the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor raised an eyebrow at the one hundred fifty thousand bid. Indeed, just as Tang San and Luo Qingzhu believed, the Ancestral Court had put up this somewhat awkward but potentially high-value item expecting the Peacock Demon clan to take it. If Mei Gongzi actually won it, which was rather likely, he intended to follow up. The point was to see if she could activate the Celestial Pillar and unlock the alloy formula. If she could and refused to hand it over, it would be a serious offense, and grounds to eliminate her, whatever her grandfather said. If she failed, it would prove that her human bloodline wasn't all that significant after all, and they could rest easier.
But the Blue Gold Tree clan had given the Peacock Demon clan no chance, going straight to one hundred fifty thousand. The Celestial Fox Demon Emperor could not blame them; their bloodline abilities painted a massive target on their backs, so if they really could inherit this Human Emperor's legacy by some strange coincidence, it would be incredibly valuable to them. Using the alloy to create weapons that could be imbued with others' bloodline abilities was a strategy perfectly suited for them. In that light, the high bid made perfect sense.
With such a decisive offer, the other VIP rooms fell silent, and from outside the VIP rooms, no one even attempted to join. As great as the legacy was, it wouldn't instantly create an Emperor. It wasn't even guaranteed to succeed; if anything, the Ancestral Court's experiments showed that they were far more likely to fail. It was not something one could just spend money on and expect immediate returns. So even if there was someone with the means to bid, they chose to abstain. The main city lords bidding did so to give their clans a chance at an Emperor's inheritance, because even the attempt was rare and precious.
"One hundred fifty thousand amethystine coins, going once. Any other bids?" the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor asked.
"One hundred fifty-one thousand, VIP Room Eleven." Mei Gongzi couldn't help herself.
Tang San didn't hesitate.
"One hundred sixty thousand, VIP Room Eight."
"Are you deliberately making trouble for me?!" Mei Gongzi's divine consciousness suddenly shot over from Room Eleven, filled with murderous intent.
Tang San's lips twitched, but with the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor obviously spying on them, there was no way he could explain himself. He could only reply with his divine consciousness, "City Lord Mei, let's keep this a fair auction. These are the rules."
Mei Gongzi's face went pale with fury. She wanted nothing more than to storm into Room Eight and beat that guy senseless. Just because she had ignored him, he was retaliating like this? Did he really think the Blue Gold Tree clan could inherit a human legacy? Absurd!
The Celestial Fox Demon Emperor clearly noticed her divine sense ripple, and his voice echoed coldly through the hall: "This is the first and last warning: Whoever tries to disrupt the auction will be banned immediately."
It was a clear warning to Mei Gongzi. He hadn't outright banned her from bidding, as had been the case with the Scorching King, but by this point, it made no difference. One hundred sixty thousand was already past the limit for the Peacock Demon clan.
"One hundred sixty thousand, going twice!"
"One hundred sixty thousand, three times... Sold! Congratulations to VIP Room Eight."
With that, the Blue Gold Tree clan once again made headlines. Just how rich were they? While earlier, their high bidding might've been seen as price manipulation, this was a genuine offer. They had just spent one hundred sixty thousand amethystine coins for something with uncertain utility.
In VIP Room Ten, Radiant Dragon King Xu An'yu felt his hatred for Tang San subside a little. If they could afford one hundred sixty thousand for some unrelated inheritance, of course they could pay the same amount for a Light Sprite they knew for a fact they needed. In fact, there would've been no need to go that high; had it hit one hundred thousand, Xu An'yu wouldn't have been able to follow. So they weren't just messing around. They really had the means.
For now, the dragon race's resentment eased.
Meanwhile, in Room Eleven, the atmosphere was entirely different.
"Bastard! Bastard!" Mei Gongzi stamped her feet, pacing around the room. But there was nothing she could do. In the end, those Blue Gold Tree assholes had taken the legacy from right in front of her.
