Chapter 1071: Chapter 134 : Impromptu Baby Shower

*Sasha*

“Let me see the little prince.” My mother held out her arms.

I reluctantly handed over my son. It wasn’t that I didn’t want my mom holding him. I just didn’t want to let him go....

My mom cooed over him and kissed his little face.

“Let me have a turn,” Maeve said. She came over to see the baby.

“I’m not done yet,” my mother argued.

I rolled my eyes and looked at Lucas. “We might never get our son back.”

He shook his head. “That’s never going to happen.”

“Oh... it smells like someone needs a new diaper.” Maeve immediately turned Hunter over to Lucas.

“See, I told you we’d get him back.” He chuckled and brought Hunter to the changing table. “Now, let’s see if I remember what the nurse showed us about diaper changing.”

“Sasha, Maeve and I got you enough supplies to get started, but the two of us were talking about hanging around for a little while so we could make sure you have all the stocked meals you need and anything else,” my mom suggested.

“Oh... well, I guess that would be okay.” As much as I wanted to get the hang of everything myself, I knew it would be better if I had some support for the first few days.

I was still adjusting to being a mom, and I didn’t want to have to get back to cooking and other household duties so fast.

“There he is, good as new.” Lucas showed off his diaper-changing skills.

I frowned. “Lucas, that’s backward.”

“What? It’s exactly as the nurse showed us,” he argued.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “Let me show you.” I got up and went to the changing table.

Lucas watched over my shoulder as I expertly changed the diaper.

“Okay, that looks so much better.”

“It’s not so hard. You’ll get the hang of it.” I patted his shoulder and scooped the baby into my arms.

Hunter wiggled in my grasp and started to fuss.

“Oh, it sounds like someone is hungry.” Maeve and my mom left the nursery.

“I should feed him and put him down for a nap.”

Lucas nodded and left with our moms. I sat back in the rocker and pulled my shirt down, bringing Hunter to my breast to nurse.

After he went down, I got him in a sling my mother had gotten me. It allowed me to hold Hunter close to my body, snuggly, while giving me the use of both my arms.

I went downstairs, where Lucas was warming up food for us.

“Where are the grandmothers?”

“They took off for the day. I’m grateful to have them around for support, but they aren’t staying here. We need to get used to doing this parenting stuff on our own,” he said.

“Agreed.”

Lucas and I got into a good routine with Hunter. He helped out a lot, especially with meal prep. Of course, my mom and Maeve were there every day helping with whatever they could.

I had more help than I knew what to do with. Though I was grateful, sometimes I enjoyed the quiet nights after everyone else left more than anything.

A few days after we got settled in, Amanda showed up with Phoebe, Brady, and all my friends from work and school, along with Lucas’s friends.

“What’s going on?” I asked Amanda as she held the front door open and everyone shuffled in holding presents and other party favors.

“Well, I didn’t have the chance to throw you a proper baby shower before Hunter was born. As Hunter’s fairy godmother, this is my duty,” Amanda insisted.

In just a few minutes, the entire living room was transformed for a baby shower. Guests brought all the food and drinks, and they even put on some mellow music.

I sat in a big comfy chair with Hunter in my arms. Amanda came over and put a plastic crown on my head and a sash over my chest.

The crown said, “New Mom,” and the sash said, “Mom of the Hour.”

“Okay, let me see how much he’s grown in the past couple of days.”

I held the baby out and she gushed and ogled over him. I smiled at how adorable Amanda was being over the baby. She was the perfect choice for a godmother.

“Sasha, you should eat something. I put a plate together for you.” Lucas traded the baby for a plate of food.

I watched Lucas carry the baby around, showing Hunter off to everyone who would pay attention, and everyone was.

“Wow, he’s so beautiful,” Phoebe whispered. She took Brady’s hand. “Maybe we’ll have our own soon.”

Brady gave a tight, nervous smile. “Well... maybe....”

“You’ll love being a father, Brady. Trust me.”

I nibbled on my food, but all I wanted was to take Hunter in my arms again.

Amanda had some games arranged. They played some of the funny, normal baby shower games with plastic rings and plastic babies. Everyone was having a good time. They were good at keeping their voices down while the baby slept.

No one could get enough of Hunter, and I was happy to be surrounded by so many people who wanted to support us and show me and my family love.

“Okay, it’s time to open presents. Get ready, Sasha and Hunter, we’ve all pitched in to spoil you rotten!” Amanda announced.

Lucas took Hunter again and Amanda placed a giant box in my lap. I glanced at Lucas and he nodded.

“Come on, Sasha, let’s see what’s in all the boxes.” He smirked at me and stuck out his tongue.

I started peeling the wrapping paper off and opened all the presents. Our friends gave us baby clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, and all kinds of goodies that we needed as new parents. Some of them even gave us presents that would benefit me.

I got a pair of microwavable slippers to keep my feet warm and help reduce the swelling. They got me a lot of herbal, relaxing teas, and other things I could drink while breastfeeding.

After the presents were opened, Amanda brought out a cake. While I ate my slice, Lucas handed Hunter around to everyone who wanted to hold him.

I watched them cooing and ogling over him. It made me a little jealous that everyone else was holding him and fawning over him. At the same time, it warmed my heart to know that I had so many friends and family members around that would be there to help and support me and my family.

My heart raced as I watched all the smiling faces around me. They were showering my son with more love and adoration than I thought possible.

This was the community my son was going to be raised in. It was the world he’d be part of. I was happy that my son would grow up knowing he was loved and feeling all that love. After everything Lucas and I had been through, this felt incredible.

The party dwindled down and Amanda stayed behind. She and Lucas cleaned up everything while I nursed Hunter again. I was so elated from the day. It was a perfect way to come home with a new baby. I was so relaxed. There was a part of me that felt like I should be stressed and frantic, trying to figure out how to manage being a parent. I knew I still had a lot to learn but I wasn’t worried. This all felt so right.

“How are you holding up, Momma?” Amanda asked. She sat next to me and rested her head on my shoulder.

“I’m fine. Thank you, Amanda. With all the craziness going on during my pregnancy, we never had the chance to do anything like have a baby shower. I mean, I wasn’t even getting the nursery ready until a few weeks before I was due.”

Amanda laughed and stroked Hunter’s head. “Oh, but it was all worth it. You have such a great son and an amazing family.”

My eyes instinctively sought Lucas. He was still cleaning up after the party.

“Oh, I know how lucky I am,” I assured.

“I’ll admit. I’m a bit jealous. When I first saw Lucas in that bar, I just figured you could do with a good rough and tumble.”

“Amanda!” I gasped. “There is a baby in the room!”

She bit her lower lip and grinned. “Sorry, but it’s worth saying. Who knew it would work out so well?”

I sighed and nodded. “Yeah... I guess it was wrong of me to hold a childhood grudge against Lucas for so long.”

“I’m glad you finally came to your senses. Now, it’s up to you to help me find my own Lucas,” Amanda insisted.

I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, between being a mom, working full time, and getting married, you think I’ll have time to be a wingman for you?”

Amanda shrugged. “You’ll make the time. I know you will.”

Amanda and Lucas finished cleaning up, but I was exhausted. I changed Hunter’s diaper and headed upstairs. In the nursery, there was a large, comfy recliner chair. I relaxed in the chair and held Hunter against my chest. He gurgled slightly and sighed.

I could feel the softness of his breathing against my chest. His little fingers curled around my shirt, holding it tightly.

I put my hand on his back. He was so tiny that my hand almost swallowed him whole. Nothing could have prepared me for how little a newborn really was.

Listening to him make sounds in his sleep, feeling him breath against me, I felt so relaxed and at peace. I was overwhelmed with the love I felt for him.

Having Hunter made me feel complete. It was more perfect than I’d ever imagined.

I ran my hand over his little head and his soft, silky hair. It was growing faster than I thought. Sighing, I leaned down and kissed his little head. He made another sound and nuzzled closer to me.

“I love you so much, baby boy,” I said. “I always will. I want you to always know how much we love you, me and your father.”

He sighed in his sleep.

I glanced toward the nursery door. Lucas stood there, watching me and Hunter.

“You look like you’ve had a long day,” he commented.

I shrugged. Drowsiness had started to creep in before Amanda left, but I was enjoying holding my son too much.

“I’m exhausted, but I don’t want to sleep because I don’t want to miss a moment with this boy.” I ran my hand over Hunter’s silky head again.

Lucas smiled and came into the room. He knelt down next to me and kissed my cheek and then Hunter’s head.

“I love you, Sasha, more than anything. And I love our son and our family.”

“Was it all worth it?”

“I wouldn’t trade a single minute of it.”

I smiled. “There are a few things I could have done without. But, I love knowing you will always be by my side, no matter what. I just hope the worst is behind us.”
