Chapter 1065: Chapter 128 : The Rescue Plan
*Sasha*
“Alright, Sasha, it’s time to tell me about what’s going on in your reality,” I said, sitting down beside her in the guestroom Xander and Lena had set up for her.
She was settled in the palace now and on the mend. I was glad she was safe and that the baby was safe. She didn’t seem to mind me visiting a lot and checking on her and the baby.
“I’m sorry you have to deal with all this... I wish... with a fraction of your power and strength, I could fix things in my own reality.”
I took her hand and squeezed her fingers. “It’s okay. I promised I would help and ensure you have a comfortable life in your own reality. I’m not going back on my word.”
“Th-thank you.” She sniffled and nodded.
“Besides, you’ve been nurturing my son, protecting him. It’s the least I can do.”
“You’ve been looking after my body, too.” She smiled lightly.
“I’d like to know how bad it is before Lucas and I go to your reality. We need to be prepared.”
She nodded. “Well, after the uprising of the Lycaon Church and Morianne’s escape, the palace was completely sacked.”
I gasped. “They really took over?”
She nodded somberly and ran her hands along the edge of the blanket on her lap. “Some very dangerous artifacts were stolen from the palace, most by different ranking members of the church. Either way, they fell into the wrong hands.”
“That’s not good.”
“It isn’t. They began causing total chaos. That was weeks ago before I came here. I have no idea how bad it’s gotten since I was brought here....”
“It’s okay, Sasha. I promise we will save your reality and make it safe and stable again. I have the powers of a goddess now, and I will use them to set things right.”
“Thank you. I know that’s lame. There are no words to express my gratitude.”
We shared an easy smile. I was glad that the other Sasha and I were finally seeing eye to eye and working toward the same goal.
I gave her hand one last squeeze. I met up with Lucas and filled him in on everything. He already had the future orb and we cleared it with Lena and Xander that we were going to leave this reality.
Lena was a little concerned, but I assured her that while the other Sasha was around, the reality would be temporarily stable until I could return.
“Ready to do this?” Lucas asked. He held the orb out to me.
Tentatively, I took the orb. It was heavy in my hand and thrummed with magic. I felt a strong jolt go up my arm. It had been a while since I’d had contact with the orb. The power made me feel complete, in a way.
“Yeah, I’m ready. Are you?”
“It sounds like we’ll be having some fun on the other side.”
“Fun?” I scoffed. “I don’t think you understand what we’re facing.”
Lucas smirked and grabbed my hand. He spun me into his arms and held me close.
“Alright, do your thing.” He winked at me.
I nodded and closed my eyes, holding the orb tightly in my hand. I called on my magic and sank into the orb.
Lucas and I spun through the orb and into the other Sasha’s reality. As soon as we landed, there was instant chaos.
We were in the palace and all around us, I heard screaming and terror. Things crashed and broke.
Lucas curled around me, protecting me, as several citizens ran by. They pulled things off the wall and smashed relics around us.
“What the hell...?”
“These are just regular citizens causing chaos. They aren’t affiliated with the church.”
“What’s going on? This is... madness,” I muttered.
“We need to find someone to talk to and figure out what’s going on.”
I nodded. Lucas and I headed out of the palace, dodging some insane citizens running around and destroying the palace. It was like when the revolt happened; they all decided to attack the crown.
In the streets of the capital, there were dozens of soldiers trying to coral the citizens.
“Those aren’t royal soldiers,” I pointed out.
“No, they’re from the Light Realm,” Lucas said.
“The Light Realm? What are they doing here? Why are they ordering everyone around?”
“I don’t know, but I’m about to find out. Stay right here.”
Lucas went up to the nearest guard and tapped him on the shoulder. “What’s going on? Why is the Light Realm here?”
“The Dark Realm was falling into chaos here in the capital. We had to move in and take control.”
I scoffed and the soldier glared at me. “Do you have something to say?”
“It doesn’t look very controlled,” I pointed out.
“Well, we have bigger fish to fry. That damned Lycaon Church has taken the king, queen, and all their children hostage. Who knows what they are planning, but it has dark magic written all over it. Now, if you’re not going to help, get the hell out of my way!”
He took off down the street.
“Xander and Lena are in trouble. We need to find them first.”
Lucas took my hand. “Then we should start at the Lycaon Church. That’s probably where they are being held.”
I nodded in agreement.
We raced to the large branch of the church in the capital. In our reality, there was a dungeon underneath. I learned about it when I was pretending I wanted to join the church.
I led Lucas to a doorway from the outside that led into the dungeons. We could get in, unseen. Not that it mattered... I didn’t see any church members around or on guard.
The dungeons were musty and damp. I heard coughing and whispers deeper in the dungeons. There were no lights on at all. We had to rely on our night vision.
“Xander? Lena?” I whispered into the darkness.
“S-Sasha?”
I squeezed Lucas’s hand tightly. We’d found them! I raced down the dungeon corridor to where I heard Lena’s voice. She and Xander were crammed in a small, dingy cell. Other members of their family and the Royal Court were in the other cells.
“Sasha, what are you doing here? You can’t be here.” Lena reached through the bars of her cell and held my hands. Her skin was dirty and her clothes torn.
“What are you talking about? We’re here to help.”
Lena frowned and her eyes glossed over. “You have no idea what you’ve stepped into here. I... they’ve blocked my powers with some of those rare artifacts. I can’t help much...”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Sasha, the Lycaon Church is planning to bring back the Dark Lord Lycaon with a sacrificial ritual.”
“Sacrifice?”
Lena nodded. “Our son... the young prince.”
“What!?” Lucas snapped.
Lena whimpered slightly. Xander came up to her and took her into his arms.
“Help us get our son back and stop this dark ritual. Time is running out. This resurrection can’t happen.”
“We will save your son, I promise.” I squeezed Lena’s hand one last time.
“Get out of here before the church members find you.” Xander nodded toward the exit.
“Wait... is there anyone you can trust, anyone we can connect with to help?” I turned back one last time.
Lena shook her head. “We don’t know what’s going on out there.”
“Alright, then we’re getting you out of here. Lucas and I need your help, and you two need to save your son.”
“Sasha, no. If you try, they’ll hear.” Lena pointed to the ceiling, indicating the church above.
I shook my head. “Don’t worry. They won’t hear a thing. I’m not leaving you two here.”
I motioned for them to stand back. Xander and Lena complied. I held my hands against the cell and I called on my magic. The metal twisted and bent until there was an opening large enough for Xander and Lena to get out.
“Come on, let’s get out of here as fast as we can.” I motioned for them.
The four of us hurried out of the dungeons and back into the chaotic streets. Lena looked devastated, seeing the madness happening in her home.
“This is....”
She shook her head and covered her face.
“We’ll fix this, Lena,” Xander said reassuringly, “once we save our son from being sacrificed.”
“I don’t understand. Why do they want to sacrifice him?” I asked.
“Dark King blood–it is important for their ritual,” Xander explained.
“We don’t have a lot of time,” I said. “The ritual will probably happen here in the church. But I doubt they’ll be letting anyone in, other than their members.”
“We need to come up with a plan, but first, we need to get off these streets.” Lucas pointed to a quieter side street and we all made our way there.
There was an abandoned building and we went inside to come up with a plan. Lucas opened the emergency backpack we’d brought and handed Xander and Lena some fresh clothes, a bottle of water, and some food.
“Oh, you are a lifesaver,” Lena gushed. She grabbed the water and guzzled it down.
I went to the window and looked out at the large church. It was massive and looming. For some reason, the crazed citizens didn’t seem like they wanted to go near the church. I still hadn’t seen a single acolyte from the church coming or going.
They were probably all inside preparing for their dark ritual. We had to get in there before the prince was sacrificed. It would probably happen at sundown, but the only way we’d get in was if they thought we were part of the ritual.
“Hey guys, I have an idea.” I turned to face them. “I can use my powers to disguise us as acolytes. We’ll slip right in without anyone noticing.”
“You can do that?” Lucas asked.
I nodded. “I think I can. We’ll infiltrate before the ritual begins and be ready to stop them.”
They agreed.
I took my time using my power to disguise each of us. It wasn’t just about getting the facial features right, but I also I had to give us clothes that would pass the test.
If I got one detail wrong, our cover would be completely blown. I wasn’t about to let that happen. The young prince’s life was on the line... no pressure.
Once I was done, I passed my pocket mirror around. Everyone nodded in appreciation.
“This is good. We’ll get in easily,” Lena said.
“I hardly recognize us,” Xander added.
Lucas took my hand and squeezed. “We need to memorize what we all look like in case we get separated.”
“Actually, I have an idea for that. Do you have any kind of paint in that emergency bag?”
Lucas handed her a small tube of Wite-Out. Lena painted her pinky nail with it and handed the bottle to Xander. We each painted our pinky nails white. Now, we’d be able to find each other in the crowd.
I nodded. “Alright, we’re ready to face whatever comes next.”
