Snowstorm: I’m Super Rich in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 271 Danger
Chapter 271: Chapter 271 Danger
"Just as the two of them had entered, they heard Lu Ruiming shout loudly, "Grandpa, Grandma, there’s a thief in the study!"
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng were not worried, and went straight into the Space from the desk, because the old man’s study had no surveillance inside, for fear of being hacked into. There was only surveillance at the door, so they were not concerned.
Soon, Lun Wanli entered, turned on the light, and searched carefully. He found nothing; the window was securely closed, and there was surveillance and guards in the yard, so it was impossible for anyone to have run out.
Lu Ruiming still trusted his own eyes. When he went to the bathroom, he saw a dark shadow going upstairs, so he quickly followed. That person had clearly entered the study, how could they be gone?
Huang Suzhen was now terribly afraid that Lu Ruiming would cause another incident and hurriedly said to Lun Wanli, "Maybe Mingming has been living in the apocalypse for too long and is prone to nightmares. I’ll accompany him back."
Lun Wanli didn’t say anything, just waved his hand, and then sat down at the desk.
After Huang Suzhen and the others had left, Lun Wanli opened a hidden compartment in the bottom shelf of the bookcase, took out a notebook, and made sure everything was still there. Only then was he at ease. He put the things back in place before leaving the room.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng smiled; they got what they wanted without any effort. They took out the notebook, photographed it, put it back, dealt with the surveillance, and returned to their room.
Once in their room, they plugged in the computer and exported the photos.
There was still no order to the disaster, but they found the coordinates of Mount Everest, a floor plan of the Mount Everest Base, escape routes, and more.
They backed up the notebook, then put it into the Space. The big job was done; it was time to deal with Lu Ruiming and Huang Suzhen.
They slept well that night, and the next day it unexpectedly started to rain—a rare normal rain in normal weather.
Looking at the faint greenery on the distant ground, Gu Pan sighed. These grasses were having a hard time, sprouting a little only to die again.
These past few days had also been chaotic for Lu Lianlian’s household, so she had no time to come over. Chen Kejin had been suspended and was under investigation. Although he wouldn’t be imprisoned, he had little hope for the future.
Lu Lianlian’s mother-in-law was a hot-tempered and troublesome woman, constantly complaining at home about how Lu Lianlian’s father wasn’t helping.
And her daughter had also been brainwashed by her grandmother, acting towards her almost like an enemy, even saying she was inferior to her cousin.
The cousin Chen Zhu talked about was Chen Kejin’s childhood sweetheart and cousin. Although the two didn’t have anything improper like an affair, Chen Kejin often praised his cousin, which irked Lu Lianlian. Now her own daughter, whom she had raised with such care, was saying the same thing, and it truly broke her heart.
These past few days had been the most difficult period of Lu Lianlian’s life, with each day feeling like a year. She went to plead with her father, who showed no pity, and her mother was always telling her to wait. Didn’t she understand? Ever since Ruiming had arrived, her mother’s thoughts had been on him, and her own importance had diminished.
Thinking of that incident, she suddenly had an idea. If she used that incident to make a deal with her mother, she surely wouldn’t refuse.
Lu Lianlian knew that if she used this as leverage, her relationship with her mother would never return to the way it was before, but now she had no other choice. She had to threaten her mother with it to persuade her father to help, so her husband could have a turning point, and so she could regain her status at her in-laws’. She was unaware of the recent strife between Huang Suzhen and Lun Wanli.
With that in mind, Lu Lianlian made up her mind and went to find her mother, Huang Suzhen.
Huang Suzhen had not been sleeping well these past few days, worried about Lu Lianlian’s issues. She had been trying to mend her relationship with Lun Wanli, but the words she had said before were too harsh, and now it was a bit difficult.
When she saw her daughter, Huang Suzhen was still very happy, "Lianlian is here, Mom has something to tell you just in time."
Lu Lianlian said to Huang Suzhen, "Mom, I also have something to tell you."
Huang Suzhen took Lu Lianlian to the bedroom.
At this moment, Lun Wanli was in the study, so he was unaware that Lu Lianlian had arrived.
Lu Ruiming was playing games in his room. Since coming here, Huang Suzhen really hadn’t spared any effort to provide him with nice things. His leg hadn’t healed, so he stayed at home playing games.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng didn’t go out today either; they were in their room discussing whether it was time to proceed with threats against Huang Suzhen using Lu Ruiming as leverage.
Now, Huang Suzhen sat down with Lu Lianlian in a room.
Lu Lianlian spoke first, "Mom, have you told Dad about Kejin’s business or not?"
Huang Suzhen replied, "How could I not tell him? But you know what your father’s like; he has his principles, and this time the trouble you’ve both caused is too serious."
Lu Lianlian sneered, "Mom, it wouldn’t be that you don’t want to deal with my problems, right? Ever since Ruiming arrived, you haven’t given a single thought to me or Zhuzhu."
Huang Suzhen indeed had been neglecting her granddaughter recently, "Lianlian, it’s been so many years since Mingming has been by my side, and he’s finally here with an injury. How could I not pay a little more attention to him?"
"Mom, I’m living a terrible life at my in-laws’. If you still consider me your daughter, then please help me."
"Your in-laws owe their success to our support; how dare they bully you?"
"Mom, how can you say that? Kejin is also a capable man. Everything is fine as long as Dad lends a hand, but if Dad doesn’t help him, how could my mother-in-law be happy?"
Huang Suzhen, frustrated with Lu Lianlian’s ineptitude, said, "We’ve been too indulgent with you over the years, making you completely ignorant in dealing with strife. How could you let your in-laws brainwash you?"
Lu Lianlian didn’t agree with Huang Suzhen, "Mom, what are you talking about? Don’t you know how good Kejin is to me? Anyway, this time you must help me."
"The thing Chen Kejin did this time is indefensible. Your father is already doing what he can to keep him out of jail and from being executed."
"All this effort, what’s the use? If you don’t help me, I’ll reveal the past."
At that, Huang Suzhen trembled, "Lianlian, what do you mean?"
"The incident involving Lu Ruisheng’s disappearance, have you forgotten? Mom, if you persuade Dad to help me this time, I swear, I’ll never bring that up even if it kills me."
"Lu Lianlian, are you out of your mind? Everything I did back then was for whom? Wasn’t it for you and your brother?"
"I am your only daughter. Whether or not you act, Dad’s view of me won’t change much. You did more for your son. How old was I then when you made me do such terrible things? Did you really have my best interest at heart? I spent my entire childhood living in nightmares." Lu Lianlian wasn’t making this up; that event had cast a long shadow over her heart and had changed much about her, including her personality.
When Huang Suzhen heard Lu Lianlian’s words, her heart clenched, "Then why didn’t you tell Mom?"
"What if I did? The thing has already been done; what else could I have done?"
"I’m sorry. If I had known it would turn out like this, I would not have done it at the beginning."
"But it has been done, Mom. Just consider it doing me a favor, and please, beg Dad for mercy on my behalf."
"I’ve been looking for a way out all along. But you should understand how serious this matter is. Your father has such a public profile, with so many people watching. Do you want him to ruin a lifetime of achievements? Besides, even if it ruins him, this won’t be changed."
Having said this, Huang Suzhen paused for a moment and continued, "You need to understand that you don’t have to listen to your in-laws anymore. Just remember that you are Lun Wanli’s daughter. Then you will still be able to have a good life at the Base. As long as you keep out of this matter, you’ll have room for growth in the future. Then your family’s life won’t be so bad either." Huang Suzhen was thinking far ahead for her daughter.
