Snowstorm: I’m Super Rich in the Apocalypse
Chapter 259: Helping Second Uncle

Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Helping Second Uncle

Lu Wanli waved his hand, signaling them to go ahead.

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng bid farewell to Lu Wanli and followed Su Qing out. They had realized today that the old man was more muddled in handling family affairs than they had thought, and Huang Suzhen, now older, was also less discreet with her small schemes. Therefore, it should be easier to deal with her and involve fewer concerns.

Once outside, they were not worried. All the important things were stored in the Space, and they were not concerned about someone rummaging through their parcels.

Moreover, before leaving, they had installed a camera in the room while pretending to fetch something, so they were not worried about anyone pulling any dirty tricks.

They exited the main gate and got into Su Qing’s car.

As the car drove off, Su Qing finally sighed and said, "The old man is ridiculous. The older he gets, the more deluded he becomes, still dreaming of a harmonious family? He actually wants to turn a deaf ear to the old lady’s sins for the rest of his life."

Gu Pan knew from Lu Jianshe that Su Qing had a fiery temper. Before, Su Qing might have shown a gentle and loving side in front of her and Lu Ruisheng, hence her relatively gentle tone. But now, anger showed her true personality, which was actually a good thing.

She smiled at Su Qing, "Second Aunt, don’t be upset—it’s not worth it. Those who commit sins will receive their retribution. Let’s wait until the old lady’s bond with Lu Ruiming deepens. Then we can use Lu Ruiming to threaten her. I don’t believe she won’t tell the truth."

Su Qing said, "Did you notice? The old man’s attitude—he might want to smooth things over, but that old lady is very shrewd."

Lu Ruisheng interjected, "But if it turns out that Lu Ruiming is not his biological grandson, once the truth comes out, he won’t have any reason to smooth things over, will he?"

Su Qing tapped the steering wheel twice, "There’s still Lu Lianlian and her daughter Chen Zhu. Those are the girls who grew up by the old man’s side, his very own daughter and granddaughter. They are the old lady’s last resort. Over the years, she has been whispering in the old man’s ear. Lu Lianlian’s husband Chen Kejin relies on the old man’s connections to access the best resources. Your Second Uncle is currently competing with him for a position and is quite resentful about it."

Honestly, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng had somewhat overlooked this Lu Lianlian, but they had not forgotten the incident of Ruisheng going missing, which might have been related to her.

Gu Pan asked Su Qing, "Second Aunt, how can we help Second Uncle get promoted? How can we surpass that Chen Kejin?"

Su Qing laughed upon hearing Gu Pan’s words, "I appreciate your intentions, Second Aunt knows. But these are not matters for you kids to handle. Don’t worry. Your Second Uncle isn’t foolish; he has a lot of dirt on them. It’s just not the right time yet."

Gu Pan said, "Second Aunt, I know you think we’re young, but we do have some capabilities. If we could use resources like the original materials, could we help Second Uncle?"

Because in the Space, they had plenty of solar panels and all the machines from a synthetic fabric textile factory—extremely useful in the apocalypse—as well as fifteen wild boars and fertilized eggs. The fertilized eggs were precious commodities for the base; just a hundred could kick-start the poultry production. So, she was confident they could help Lu Jianshe establish his achievements.

Su Qing parked the car at her own house’s entrance: "I can’t let you two go out to look for supplies. Right now, you and your husband are the apples of my and your Second Uncle’s eyes, and we can’t afford any trouble with either of you."

Lu Ruisheng understood his wife’s sentiments, so he said, "Second Aunt, rest assured, we are very safe when we go out, or else we wouldn’t have chosen the profession of Scavengers. We often venture out of No.7 Base as well."

Su Qing was adamant, "No, we will take care of you here. You two can enjoy your freedom and not work if you wish—your Second Uncle and I can support you. But going out on risky ventures is off the table."

Moved by Su Qing’s domineering affection, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng exchanged glances and seriously considered helping out Second Uncle in some way.

They got out of the car in the yard; although the neat little courtyard was devoid of decorations and appeared somewhat bare without any plants at this time.

Su Qing opened the trunk, took out everything inside, and carried it into the house.

The house was very clean, hardly different from Gu Pan’s area, but things like the sofa were a bit more upscale, with a real leather couch and even a television. Although they had electricity rationing here, they could watch some TV shows or movies stored on the hard drive when power was available.

Su Qing looked at those boxes, "Why did you bring so much stuff?"

Gu Pan said with a smile, "It’s all a token of our affection for Second Uncle and Second Aunt."

As she spoke, she replaced the contents of the box at the very end with a fertilized egg. The foam box was double-layered to ensure it wouldn’t spoil during transport.

Su Qing looked at the two of them, "You two are so thoughtful, I don’t even know what to say."

Lu Ruisheng said, "Then don’t say anything, we’re all family here."

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng opened the boxes, which contained a lot of items, requiring Su Qing to rearrange and store them herself.

The first box was filled with clothes, bags, and several jade accessories for Su Qing.

Su Qing laughed while looking at Gu Pan, "I’ve always dreamed of having a daughter to go shopping with. You’ll accompany Second Aunt someday."

Gu Pan nodded in agreement and said sure.

The second and third boxes were filled with food: freeze-dried fruits, jerkies, salted meat, freeze-dried vegetables, various dried vegetables, dried seafood, canned goods, and the like.

Since the boxes were quite large and packed with many items, these two big boxes were enough to cover Lu Jianshe’s family’s nutritional needs for a year, aside from their staple food. After all, it was the apocalypse; it wasn’t possible to indulge in every meal. So by consuming these sparingly, they could stretch their nutritional needs for the year, perhaps even longer if they economized a bit more.

This genuinely startled Su Qing, "No way, how do you have so many good things? And you just brought them in like this?"

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng nodded with a smile, indicating that’s exactly how they brought them.

Su Qing’s expression changed as she looked at them, "I previously thought that having two more kids at home was simple, but it seems I was thinking too simply."

Gu Pan opened the last box, which was filled with food on top and contained a foam box in the middle, which she took out, "Second Aunt, see if this can help Second Uncle."

When Lu Ruisheng saw the foam box inside the crate, he knew Gu Pan had changed its contents and knew it was a fertilized egg, which didn’t surprise him.

However, when the box was opened, Su Qing jumped up, "This is...? How did you store this? It hasn’t gone bad after so long?"

Lu Ruisheng went to the door, ensuring it was shut and no one was outside.

It was then Gu Pan spoke in a very low voice, "Second Aunt, these are fertilized eggs, sixty chicken eggs, all viable. Don’t ask where they came from, and don’t spread the word. Nowadays, obtaining supplies has its own set of methods. How they came to be isn’t important. Are these enough for Second Uncle to compete with that guy?"

She originally wanted to bring out a hundred, but felt that was too many. Sixty should suffice. Any more would take up too much space, seem unreasonable to carry, and would be too difficult to explain. Besides, they couldn’t have more than No.7 Base by too large a margin. After weighing the options, she thought sixty was a moderate number, so that’s what she brought.

Upon hearing they were fertilized eggs, Su Qing’s pupils dilated dramatically, and it took her a long time to speak, "Fertilized eggs?" she repeated, then quickly covered her mouth to lower her voice, "Are you sure they’re fertilized?" Because everyone at the base knew the significance of those two words.

Gu Pan nodded, "Yes, we originally just wanted to surprise you, but now that they can be put to good use, they’re even more valuable."
