Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 71: Bed Sharing
Chapter 71: Bed Sharing
In all of the years that Emily had been lying and saying that her nightmares had been cured. She had never once shared a bed with another person. Emily had always been terrified that her secret would somehow be discovered despite her having mastered the art of being silent even when having a night terror. So she had chosen to be a solo sleeper. Then she had shared the bed with someone and boom, her problem had been solved, at least for that night.
But the key thing was that she had shared the bed with Derek Haven and had been able to sleep without a single night terror waking her up. Derek Haven, more than just being the CEO of Haven Group, and her boss, was also a human being. Other people were human beings too( for the most part, there were also cold-blooded snakes like Derek’s uncle out there).
But the realization that Derek was just another human being had sent Emily’s mind racing.
What if the solution to her problem did not lie in a specific person, but just about anyone would do? She briefly entertained the thought of going out in the street, grabbing the next guy that she ran into, and saying something along the lines of ’ Hey, I know you do not know me, and I do not know you either, but can and sleep with me? I really need someone to sleep with me,’ But she had quickly dismissed the idea.
The good guys would freak out and run away at once. The crazy ones who were likely to cut her up and wear her skin were much more likely to say yes. Since she did not want to be cut up, nor did she want to be worn around by someone, Emily had decided that it was best not to go through with that particular.
In the end, she went for the one and only safe person that she knew she could share a bed with, without any worries...her mother.
Emily’s plan to achieve that result was a simple one. On Friday, she got home before her mom and immediately got to work. She cleaned the house up a bit, vacuuming, and fluffing up the cushions. Then once she was done, Emily went about preparing her mother’s favourite dish, lasagne. She first boiled the pasta, then she set it aside in an oiled bowl, with each of the layers also having some oil in between them so that she could take them apart easily later on.
Next, she added some oil to a pan and put it on the stove. When it was hot enough, she added chopped-up onions and garlic and when they were ready, she added the ground beef. One by one the different ingredients came together and soon enough Emily was layering the lasagne.
Once all the layering was done and she had a healthy layer of cheese on top, she popped her creation in the oven and went to get ready. By the time she heard her mother at the door, the lasagne was already out of the oven, and cooled down enough that it was ready for eating. Her mom opened the door, locked it after she entered, and then turned into the apartment. She looked tired, a yellowish stain on her scrubs, but the moment she sniffed the air, her face lit up.
She took one more big sniff before she turned her attention to Emily.
"Evening, daughter of mine," She said as she moved forward. "And just what have I done to deserve lasagne, or better yet, what do you want,"
Sometimes, Emily hated how well her mom knew her. But that was not the case at that moment.
"Watch a horror movie with me," She blurted, a pleading look on her face. It was not exactly what she wanted. But if she came out and just said ’Can I sleep with you tonight?’ It might lead to questions about her sleeping habits, and despite how much Emily was struggling, she still did not want to add to her mother’s stress. So the roundabout way it was.
"You! Watching a horror movie, willingly at that?" Her mother asked, not even trying to hide her disbelief.
"I am trying to get over my fears," Emily told her. Her mom gave her a considering look before she finally shook her head and let out a sigh.
"Kids," She muttered, moving past Emily and heading for her room.
"Fine, I will watch it with you, just dish up while I get ready. I need to wash the day’s events off first,"
And that was how Emily found herself cowering behind a blanket. Her mother, completely unbothered, was slowly eating away at her second serving of lasagne while her eyes never left the screen.
Convincing herself that the coast was probably clear, Emily lowered her blanket and took a peek. Just in time to see a giant centipede coming out of a man’s side. Twisting and then re-entering the same man through his mouth while he screamed, blood and guts flying everywhere as it tore him apart.
Her blanket came back up so fast.
Luckily, after that, Emily only had to endure another half an hour of disembodied screams before the movie ended.
"Good night, Mom," She called as she ran to her room. Once there, Emily jumped on the bed and waited for her heartbeat to go back to normal.
Phase one of her plan had gone off without a hitch. From there it was just a matter of waiting. Two hours after saying good night, Emily grabbed her pillow and went to knock on her mother’s bedroom door.
"Mom, can I come sleep with you? I’m scared," She called through the door.
There was a muffled "Come in," And Emily let herself into the room and slipped under the covers with her mom.
Phase two was complete. And now for phase three...sleep.
With her mom next to her, Emily slipped into an easy slumber. But it was not to be, two hours later, she awoke quietly from a nightmare. Her mother’s gentle snores filling the room.
