Sleeping With The CEO
Chapter 60: Ready For Some Good Sleep

Chapter 60: Ready For Some Good Sleep

For the first time since he was twelve years old, Derek Haven had slept for hours, it was huge, a big deal. But since coming awake, both at the motel and after his in-flight nap, he had been pretending like it was all normal stuff to him.

That he just found a bed, laid down, and his body just went to sleep without any trouble. But now he had put all of the day’s work behind him, including the nasty piece of work that was his uncle, and he was on his way.

And finally alone with his thoughts and not having to keep up a front, Derek Haven let himself feel the full extent of his emotions. At first he laughed, and when his ribs got too painful, and his driving erratic, he stopped laughing. But a big smile replaced his laughter. The smile so wide it made his teeth hurt. If he were to be stopped by the police in that moment, he was certain that they would think that he was one of three things.

Number one, as drunk as a skunk.

Number two, high out of his mind.

Number three, a serial killer who had just come from a successful murder spree and probably had a dead body in the car with him.

If he were to say that he was just happy he had gotten a good night’s sleep, Derek was sure that none of them would believe him.

But the euphoria that came from the sleep he had gotten and the sleep that he was going to get was just beyond words. One had to experience it to actually believe him. In an effort to get himself under control. Derek stopped the car on his way home, got out and did multiple fist pumps, the cool night air against his cheeks also helping to calm him, then he got back into his car and headed for the manor.

By the time he got home and walked through the quiet manor, headed for the kitchen, the only thing giving away his good mood was the slight bounce in his step.

He walked into the kitchen feeling like he was flying, and when he spotted his mother by the fridge his mood elevated even more.

"Good evening, mother," He greeted, moving forward to plant a kiss on her cheek.

"Good evening, son of mine," She greeted, her bright smile matching his.

"I heard that you have been out there slaying dragons. Does the brave dragon slayer still have time to eat with his mother, or would that be too uncool," She asked, her arms folded over her blue, flour dusted apron.

"Dragon slayers only eat with their mothers of there are baked goods involved," He told her, and she laughed.

"Well then, I guess we will be eating together afterall," The plan had been to eat whatever the staff had made and then have whatever she had baked as a dessert. But then she had pulled out her blueberry muffins and Derek had forgotten all of that.

"So, when are you going to give me the footage of your uncle losing it as you tore him a new one?" She asked as Derek made quick work of his first muffin.

"I thought that you had already gotten it yourself," If she wanted something, footage from a conference room meeting would be childsplay for her to get.

"I could get it myself, but a mother does enjoy getting presents from her son every now and then," She told him, wearing a very fake frown.

Smiling at her, Derek reached into his inner pocket and pulled out his phone. He had known that she would be wanting it the next time that they saw each other, so he had decided to come prepared. Plus the video was well worth watching again every now and then.

"If it is a gift you want, mother, then a gift you shall have," She took it eagerly, nearly falling off her stool laughing as she watched.

Once Derek had polished off his treats, they re-watched the clip together. But this time, while his mother was focused on his uncle, laughing again as she watched him turn red. Derek, who had been there, and had already watched the video a few times, found himself getting bored. Rather than say he was tired and cut their time short, he found something else to look at.

His eyes found Emily and he watched her vibrating with joy from the side-lines, throwing him adoring looks as he finally put his uncle in his place. It was obvious to him that she wanted to crow in victory, but she had held it back, only slipping up every once in a while and smiling before quickly getting serious again. When his mother insisted that they watch the video one more time, he did not resist, but once again, his attention was solely on his PA. In as much as him getting a shot at his uncle was a win for him, he was glad that he had gotten to share it with his PA.

When they finally said their goodnights, and parted ways. Derek went up the stairs to his room with even more of a bounce in his step. The cherry on top of all his wins, just before he had left the kitchen his mother had called out to him.

"I am proud of you," She’d said, rare praise coming from her, and it had bolstered Derek’s mood to new heights. Now as he stepped into his bedroom, freshly showered and smelling of his favourite shampoo, Derek felt his mood go even higher.

He smiled at the bed. Rather than just getting beneath the covers, he threw himself at the bed in a dive more suitable for swimming. He laughed as he bounced lightly, and then he got under the covers.

Clapping his hands, he switched the lights off and got comfortable. Now all he had to do was close his eyes and let the sandman take him. It was going to be a great night...
