Sleeping With The CEO
Chapter 340: Body Of Proof

Chapter 340: Body Of Proof

Most times Derek was too busy living to think about death.

But like everyone else, even if the majority would not admit to it. He thought about his demise every once in a while.

Not in a suicidal way, but just imagining what he hoped his end would be like. Derek had always prayed that he would have a peaceful death. Getting to say goodbye to his loved ones and then passing away in his sleep. That was the dream for a lot of people.

And if a peaceful death in his own bed was not in the cards for him. Derek had at least hoped for something swift and painless. A type of death that would be over before he even knew what was happening. Those were the kinds of endings that Derek had always thought of.

But never in a million years had he thought that his death would be at the hands of his uncle. But it seemed that that would be the case for him. As he drove behind Emily, his uncle next to him pointing his gun at Derek.

The former CEO was still struggling to process. His uncle had killed his father, and he had also killed Emily’s dad. Now he was going to murder Emily and Derek. His uncle was family.

That should have meant something.

But apparently to the man all that blood relations were, were just bonds that could be easily severed, in the name of power and of keeping secrets. Stealing a glance at his uncle, Derek’s hands tightened on the wheel. He briefly thought of just taking a chance and crashing the car. But he decided against it.

Crashing the car would not be a foolproof plan. Derek might be the one gravely injured and his uncle might walk away from it. And that would leave Derek unable to protect his Emily.

Even if he crashed the car and hoped that she would run and get help. Emily would not leave him behind. She would expose herself to danger in an effort to get to him. The accident plan had too many ways in which it could go wrong, so Derek discarded it, and continued to drive. Grateful that his uncle was at least silent. The lack of noise allowing Derek to try and come up with other ideas.

He wished that he had some kind of weapon in the car, like maybe a gun, a taser, or pepper spray. But there was nothing. A mistake he swore to himself that he would remedy if they made it out of their predicament alive.

But since his uncle did not seem to be in any hurry to change his mind about killing them. Derek knew that it would just be something he would die wishing he could have changed. Checking the mirrors out of habit, something occurred to Derek. And he had to bite the inside of his mouth to keep from making a startled sound.

Stealing a glance at his uncle. Derek found the man silently watching him. He gave no indication that he had noticed anything odd about Derek’s behaviour. Which meant that he had succeeded in keeping all expression out of his face a few seconds prior.

Focusing on his breathing, Derek calmed himself. Then he looked up at what had caught his attention, before looking back to the road. Had his uncle really not noticed, he wondered, and then he realised that that was most likely the case.

Sebastian Haven was a cunning man. He’d had the foresight to take their phones and to separate them so that they did not plot. Holding Derek at gunpoint as a way to make Emily obey his every command.

But even so, his adrenaline had to be through the roof. Which explained why his uncle was currently in the middle of making such a huge mistake.

By killing Emily and Derek, the man was hoping to cover his own tracks. To bury his secret from twenty years ago, once and for all. But in his haste, Sebastian had made a monumental error. He had forgotten something. That modern day vehicles had cameras built into them. They were being recorded that very moment.

It was not a weapon, but it was proof. If his uncle really managed to kill them, then he would not be getting away with it this time. Looking at the car ahead of them that Emily was in, Derek wanted to see her one more time, to apologize for not being able to save her. But he was comforted by the fact that he could at least make sure that his uncle got caught this time. Given the circumstances, the last thing that Derek wanted to do was talk to his uncle. But he took a deep breath and forced himself to do what was necessary.

"How could you kill your own twin?" He asked.

"And what about Emily’s father? Peter Molson had done you no wrong, Uncle Sebastian...," Derek began.

The older man simply shrugged, readjusting his grip on the gun.

"If I told you that I wished there had been another way. That it had hurt to kill my own brother, and that it still hurts to this day. Would you believe me?" He had the audacity to ask, and Derek could not help a disbelieving scoff.

"It hurt you? Seriously? Can you imagine the betrayal my father must have felt? You and I are not close. But knowing that you hated my father, to the point of wanting him dead and actually going through with it. That is pain," Derek hissed, losing control of his emotions momentarily before forcing himself to calm down. It would not do him any favours to lose his temper. Yelling at someone who had a gun aimed at you was never a good idea.

Luckily for him, Sebastian did not seem bothered by his outburst.

"Fine then, believe what you want, but at the end of the day, your father was my twin. I loved him and still do. Had he not been a dream stealer, he would still be alive to this day. But he had what was mine and I had to take it back,"

"Is that why you killed him?" Derek asked.

"Of course, what other reason would it be?"

"And Peter Molson? What about him?"

"He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kind of like how you, and Emily were on the wrong side of the warehouse. Had you not gone in, none of this would have happened,"

"Then you must be feeling all cut up about having to kill us," Derek said, his tone making it obvious that he did not believe that at all. But his uncle still nodded.

"It might not seem like it, but I love you. You are my brother’s child. I care for you. It is a pity you have so much of your mother in you," Sebastian said. Then he seemed to decide that the conversation was over.

Instructing Derek to flash the lights. Up ahead Emily pulled over.

She opened the door and got out, but did not immediately begin walking towards them, standing by the car instead. When she did begin walking. She did so at a snail’s pace, clearly reluctant, and Derek did not blame her.
